I am grateful for this channel and all the valuable information. There is so much conflicting information about dogs out there it is hard to know what is and isn’t right. Your videos, however, give me confidence. I like your attitude, your ability to think through things from the dog’s perspective and the clear way you explain the processes and the psychology behind them. Thank you for giving me a place to come for help I can trust, and thank you for sharing your knowledge. It is going to make all the difference. Sincerely, an about to be Aussiedoodle mom from Canada.
Looking forward to new videos. Got my dog a year ago and your videos have been extremely helpful and your quality is above the rest
Missed your videos happy to see you back
Thank u, I just got a lab puppy and your training videos have really helped!
Our puppy is five days old today and still with his mother. I am learning all I can before I bring him home and geeking out on Simpawtico is giving me confidence! Thank you, Ian! Big wags from Oregon!
Hurray for Oregon! I'm an Oregon native, born and raised!!
@@SimpawticoDogTraining That makes so much sense. You sound like an Oregonian and I am very comfortable with your teaching style. Come visit when you can! I'll see you soon on Zoom if you will be having virtual classes.
Wow!
This channel’s videos are so useful. It’s a shame there are no new videos.
New one coming next Tuesday!
“YES!”
Well done Ian. Looking forward to all the upcoming content. 😃
Thanks! 👍
hi, i thank you for your videos, and i ask for advice, what is the best thing to do when my rescued dog (about 12 months old) starts barking at bugs and frogs (at night), she has free access to the yard from her shelter, most of the time she pounces and kills bugs unless its a really big bug or a frog, the frog gets cornered and doesnt move while she is barking and barking with 10-second breaks, should i remove the frog/bug? should i wait at the door and go outside to praise her the moment she is quiet for a few seconds? or is the best thing to not do anything and let her bark as long as it takes?
I'm super impressed by your training regime and I'm working on the puppy biting just amongst everything else. Please can you give some advice about how to stop eating poop and digging holes. Many thanks.
Hi Allison. I have a PDF on Poop Eating on the website: www.simpawtico-training.com/learning/downloadables/
Digging is usually a sign of understimulation, so that one is usually resolved by increased canine enrichment and good supervision outside. Our newest video is on a good way to get into enrichment, too!
Glad to see you back!
Yes!! You are back. Let’s level up the fun!
Ps. His basic skills training modules via his website are a steal. Sequential progression of basic skills was very helpful vs initially directing our training on what videos were on cue or what the issue was. Also a fountain of resources on his website. Can’t thank Ian enough.
How to play fetch frisbee ?
Is this a video series or book?
I watched your video on Olive and 2-step redirection. How do you get your puppy to initially leave the thing alone? You said you put your hand on the blanket. I don't know how to apply that to certain things. For example, a paper towel - it was all in my puppy's mouth so I couldn't put my hand on it. I calmly put my hand in her mouth and slowly got a grip of more of the paper towel, but then she tried to do tug so it just ripped into smaller pieces that were increasingly hard to get away from her.
Also, my dress. She would get in tug mode with the hem. I tried to hold my dress still, but she ripped it so she found that fun. If I moved closer to ease the tug tension, she seemed to get encouraged. If I held it still, the tension was still there and it was slowly tearing so she found that rewarding too.
Any help would be much appreciated! Thank you for all your wonderful videos!
You'll need to teach Leave It as a side-hustle so that when you need it in the moment, your puppy's already good at it. Drop It is the same (for when a thing is already in their mouth). This is usually taught with tug. Also, when you're holding something, get right against their mouth so you're immobilizing the item as much as possible. Completely deactivate and wait. It has to be as boring as possible. This is actually one of the ways you teach drop it during tug. Make sure to reinforce them coming off the item and then GET RID OF IT.
These are just the challenges of owning and raising a puppy. There are no quick fixes. You have to hit it from multiple angles, and manage the environment so you reduce the number of problem incidents before they happen. We have a Leave It video to get you started: ua-cam.com/video/Dt9sQDP3q50/v-deo.html
@@SimpawticoDogTraining thanks for the response! I'll keep at it. We're still working on getting tug to be exciting. She prefers to walk away trying to bring the rope into her kennel, so I might try something shorter
Great vid man, thans for the insite! What do you think about the trikos leash/collar? Would you suggest it for a 75 lb GSD?
I think for a working or professional dog that's a hell of a piece of kit. I can see the need for it. However, for a pet dog that would annoy the hell out of me. I, personally, would never use it because I don't need the quick detach with the frog clasp, or the carabiner attachment on the other end. Those add a lot of weight and just get in the way if you're not chasing bad guys or sniffing out drugs. The way I hold a leash…that super nice carabiner would frustrate me. BUT HEY, your mileage will vary. If you dig it (and the price) and feel like the features would be useful, go for it. For me, a standard leash and collar is all I need or want.
@@SimpawticoDogTraining thank you! Sory to wast your time but would elite rigid leash and elite spanker tac collar more suitable for my needs? Thanks again man!
@Simpawtico Dog Training For first time owners what do u suggest......rottweilers or bullmastiffs
Between those two? About the same.
@@SimpawticoDogTraining oh great thanks
@@SimpawticoDogTraining when do you think is the right age to adopt a puppy
@@raghavendraudupi5902 Well, the norm is 8 weeks. For whatever my opinion is worth, if it's possible to wait until 10 weeks, it makes a big difference.
Wof!
