You can't understand what a big deal it was to portray queer joy in all its flamboyant elegance at a time when AIDS was decimating our people and the dance floor was one of our few escapes from the toxic messaging in media everywhere. Vogue proclaimed that we didn't have to settle for merely escaping; we could lead the way to safety for the dance floor was a refuge big enough for everyone.
Madonna is actually a professional dancer. Please react to her live performance of "Express Yourself" live from the Blond Ambition Tour (live from Nice, France) or "Vogue" from the same tour (Blond Ambition Tour live from Nice). Two of her most iconic performances, very energetic, sexual and groundbreaking. And the live performance of "Vogue" at the 1990 MTV VMA's is also super iconic, she presents herself in drag doing a lip-synch performance as it was traditional in the drag ball culture.
Huh? Queer millenials know this song and also the subculture it's about. What age group do you think stars in Pose or Legendary? Who do you think runs ballroom in 2024?
@@leareed3749 I was referring to the individual who posted the vid , absolutely no passion , not getting into it , what the song stands for , lifeless .
Voguing is a style of dancing involving striking various poses. It began in underground drag “balls” mostly in communities of color. It gave power to the LGBTQIA community allowing them dress extravagantly, “be who you are”, proud, powerful, arrogant, confident etc….Voguing is still popular today.

I need more Madonna in my life. Please react to more of this legend's music videos and live performances! People today do not realize just how much Madonna changed the music industry, especially whenever it comes to performing on stage. 👑
Self indulgently uses the internet to post his reactions / opinions, but can't use it to Google when the song was released versus the magazine. Who is Rodney Smith and why should his reaction(s) be seen?
Your review is annoying. It would be better to view an honest, objective review (with a knowledge of the culture, trends and values of the time the video was created).
Vogue was first published in 1892. In the 60s drag competition balls in NYC became racially segregated and the black portion became known as The Ball Scene. in the late 70s early 80s a dance style based on the poses of high fashion magazine photoshoots called voguing evolved. In 1987 Madonna was introduced to it by her best friend Debi Mazar who brought Jose & Luis Xtravaganza(in the video) who were considered the best Voguer to her. In 1989 her label requested a new song to be the bside of another single. vogue was written inspired by the dance, scene and old Hollywood. when the label heard vogue they demanded she release it. in march of 90 her celebration of lgbt culture in the height of the AIDS pandemic became one od the biggest hits of all time. oh and she is a classically trainned professional dancer
Already over 2100 views for this - The Madonna fans out there love to watch Madonna Reaction videos - if you want to see a great one - try Madonna's live performance of "Sooner or Later" at the 1990 Oscars - or as others have said, watch "Express Yourself" live from the Blonde Ambition tour in Nice, France
The magazine came before the song and the two have virtually nothing to do with each other, vogueing is a gay dance style from the New York underground ball culture. Madonna paid homage to it in her video and brought it to a mainstream audience.
Man, watch the Flesh and the Devil movie (you couldn´t), where Greta Garbo was in a silent movie, that movie was so ahead of its moment!!! People got crazy, it is not the movie in your mind where you live, is the context of the story. You shouldn´t judge from your perspective. It is hard work to understand in the context moment wasn´t easy for her and easy for you to judge now.
Vogue magazine started in 1892 while Madonna's "Vogue " came out in 1990. Voguing the dance style came out of the 1970's & 1980's Gay Black & Latino Houses of NYC. They would have have competitions or dance off's for trophies and titles for their Houses. Madonna took (or stole all depending who you asked) the dance movies for this song. Making it still to this day one of her biggest hits. And just another time a straight person co-opted something from the LGBTQIA+ community for a buck. [EDIT] Rodney, did this video make you feel uncomfortable? Being the reason you needed to make fun of the Queer mon of color? While joking though it instead of talking constructively about the song and video? Adding at the last second your heterosexual touch by saying you'd tap that (in reference to Madonna). Classy dude.
Stole, well Michael Jackson didn't invent the Moonwalk he STOLE it too.... Well, he masterfully made it his trademark but when it comes to Madonna who loves the gay vulture, thrrivescin ither brother is gay her best friends) - oh she stole it. Madonna was part of the scene in the 80s but (some) people want to discredit her masterful skills and artistry. Her catalogue of classic hits is sheer endless she's the GOAT.
If you keep reacting to artists, it would be a missed opportunity given how funny you are. People eagerly observe your responses to their beloved artists, but you clearly have a promising future in comedy. You effortlessly mock and find humor in everything, even the most serious aspects. Your stand-up performances, accompanied by your impressive dance moves, have the potential to bring you immense success, and if they don't attract romantic attention, I don't know what will.
I appreciate it’s a generational thing, but coming of age in the 80s, and dancing in college to “Vogue,” I am not accustomed to such low-energy/blasé reactions to Madonna, ESPECIALLY Vogue. And yes, she is an amazing dancer, surprised you wouldn’t have known that given she is still doing sold out concerts.

Vogue magazine has been around for more than a hundred years.
Vogue is not, “The Met Gala with music.” The Met Gal is Vogue, without music. Class dismissed.
