Madonna brought vogueing to the mainstream with this song. It started off as a dance in drag shows and queer balls. This song was also the first big hit from the house music scene.

Madonna certainly did not invent house music with this song, but it did define the era, particularly in the gay clubs of the time. She really nailed the zeitgeist both sonically and visually with this one.

This was Madonna's tribute to what was being done at the time in the NYC underground LGBTQ+ POC clubs and "houses." The "Ball" scene was HUGE back then & they were finally given a platform to help bring it to the mainstream culture thanks in part to this song & video.

Madonna is considered one of the most successful female artists of all time due to a number of factors. One of the biggest factors is her longevity in the music industry. She has been active for over four decades and has consistently released chart-topping albums and hit singles throughout her career.
Madonna also played a significant role in popularizing dance music and bringing it to the mainstream. Her music often combined elements of dance, pop, and electronic music, which helped her appeal to a wide range of audiences.
In addition to her music, Madonna's image and persona have also played a significant role in her success. She has been known for pushing boundaries with her fashion choices and provocative performances, which have often generated controversy but also helped to keep her in the public eye.
Overall, Madonna's success can be attributed to her talent, hard work, and ability to evolve with the times while maintaining her unique style and brand.

Without question the biggest song to hit the dance floor in 1990. I can’t impress enough what a tidal wave this was in just about any club you walked into. Funny that “Vogue” wasn’t intended to be a single. It was initially recorded to be a B side for “Keep It Together” from her Like A Prayer album. Warner Brothers heard the demo and knew it was a monster hit. That’s where the idea of her Dick Tracy album “I’m Breathless” was born. Hands down my favorite Madonna song- and the video was directed by David Fincher ( who went on to become pretty famous in his own right ) Ranked the #2 video of all time, just behind Thriller by Michael Jackson.

By the end of the 80s as a eleven year old boy, I kinda thought Madonna has done everything by now, what else can she do?
Well she released Vogue & did the legendary Blonde Ambition Tour in 1990 and she had more Number 1 Hits rollin' in after Vogue.
She was like a machine, honestly people were in awe.
Michael Jackson, Madonna, Prince & Whitney Houston had this mega AWE FAME, I've not seen this kind of fame ever since.

It has a moment in The Devil Wears Prada, years later. At the time it was homage to the gay community and to vogueing, underground ballroom drag performance. The video conjures up Hurrells of Hollywood, worthy of a quick google search. There was smoking in bars when this song was being spun on dance floors

"Vogue" is a house song with disco influence. She is a huge visionary. I watched a documentary about the differents kinds of music style in every decades and the people of music industry said that when this single was released the success of house music came out. That is what you are talking about, you are right dude.

The ever amazing DAVID FINCHER directed this masterpiece of a video.
Not only he is one of the greatest film directors of all time but also as made some of the most iconic music videos to date VOGUE included of course,he went on to direct two more videos for her later on,Express Yourself and Bad Girl, all of them are just plain iconic.

One of Madonna's quintessential hit. The first single from "I'm Breathless" a concept album with 4 tracks used in the film "Dick Tracy". The rest are songs in the same vein as 30s music, except for Vogue, which was supposed to be a B-side of one of the "Like a prayer" singles. The studio executive heard it and quickly recognize that they have a hit on their hand.
The song is an homage from the Gay underground ballroom scene.
The video, dance moves are once again an example of Madonna in her element.

it's also about referring to "voguing" as in the dance style that they are doing in the video. " Vogue, or voguing, is a highly stylized, modern house dance originating in the late 1980s that evolved out of the Harlem ballroom scene of the 1960s. " Great doco called Paris Is Burning about it. Btw love your clips, always make me laugh :)

I only just recently discovered this channel and the 2 things that have kept me hooked are y’all’s funny commentary/personalities and the concept behind giving a celebrity a week of shine. It’s very different from what other reactors do and I think it makes y’all channel very organized which I personally love and think is a great look for any channel to have in order to be successful. So keep doing what y’all are doing. My favs has definitely been when y’all reacted to Michael Jackson, Nicki Minaj, and Beyonce. When/if y’all get around to them again I definitely recommend y’all incorporate:
For Michael- “The way you make me feel” Grammy performance( I know y’all reacted to that song already but his performance to it was fire too), “Remember the time” and “thriller”
For Beyoncé- “apesh*t”, “Run the world” billboard performance and “Flawless” on the run tour performance ft Nicki Minaj.
Y’all won’t be disappointed by these. Y’all should definitely also do a Shawn Mendes week when y’all get the chance. He’s such a great artist. I know this is a hefty list of recommendations lol but no pressure. Have a nice week! Stay safe💚

'Vogue' was released March 20th 1990, and was included on Madonna's soundtrack album 'I'm Breathless', for the Warren Beatty movie 'Dick Tracy'. The album was written and produced by Madonna and Shep Pettibone, and released by Warner Brothers and Sire Records. Seen in the video, are Madonna's longtime background singers, Niki Haris and Donna De Lory, as well as the male dancers that were chosen for the 1990 Blonde Ambition World Tour. The black-and-white music video was directed by David Fincher, and was shot in only 16 hours, while Madonna was rehearsing for 'Blond Ambition'. It has a heavy Art-Deco feel, with iconic shots inspired by painter Tamara de Lempicka and several Hollywood photographers. The video received a total of nine nominations at the 1990 MTV Video Music Awards, including for Video of the Year... winning three technical categories: Best Direction, Best Editing and Best Cinematography. In 1999, the video was voted number two on MTV's 100 Greatest Videos Ever Made, behind Michael Jackson's Thriller. And that, is everything about 'Vogue' that you didn't know (and didn't ask about) ... LOL

You're missing Express Yourself. $5M budget and directed by David Fincher, it's one of Madonna's top 3 music videos from the 1980s. Inspired by the groundbreaking sci-fi film Metropolis (1927) and telling the story of the subjugated proletariat. You guys should also watch her best music videos from the 90s. Vogue is the tip of the iceberg.
There's Justify My Love, Erotica, Deeper and Deeper, Bad Girl (feat. Christopher Walken), Rain, Secret, Take A Bow, Bedtime Story ($5M Surrealist art fever dream), Frozen, Beautiful Stranger (feat. Mike Myers), Music feat. Sascha Baron Cohen as Ali G., Die Another Day ($5M Bond mv), American Life, and Hollywood.
After the early 00s, Madonna spent less time on music videos and invested more money into the visuals for her tours. Her Confessions (2006) and Sticky & Sweet (2008-09) tours became her most popular for this reason.

This is quintessential 90s Madonna, the Queen of Pop and Videos. Yes, it is a gay anthem and the dancers are from the gay dance/house scene. They toured with her in The Blond Ambition tour.

IT'S CONFUSING as Madonna's video is the soundtrack of the 90s but the style of the Vogue video is a homage to the golden Hollywood in the 30-40s. During the 90s ppl where dressing differently... And Fashion industry as it is known today started of the 90, (supermodels era) and indeed she was smart enough to record this anthem.

Yeah. This song was like a nuclear bomb in the smoky gay clubs especially. To this day it is an iconic gay anthem that defined an era and it introduced the mainstream world to the extremely underground gay ballroom culture that was thriving in NY especially. Madonna was and is probably the homosexuals and other gender minorities' biggest and most outspoken ally and supporter when no one else did a thing and it was swept under the rug in the middle of the devastating Aids crises that was ravaging that community at an alarming rate. These ppl were treated like lepers and humiliated and judged and left to their own devices as ppl generally thought they deserved what they got for living a homosexual lifestyle. It was brutal and inhuman and criminal(in my opinion). Vogue wasn't even suppose to be a single and was recorded as the b-side of Keep It Together, a track off Madonna's Like a Prayer album from 1989. But the record company realized they were sitting on a goldmine and it was released as a single in 1990. I highly recommend and urge you guys to watch her first live performance of Vogue at MTV's 1990 Video Music Awards. It was breathtaking and revolutionary and set a new standard for live performances. J

Vogue was a phenomenon in the clubs but also EVERYWHERE. Vogue is still popular. This was 1990 but still riding on her 1989 Like a Prayer album it felt like an extension of that. This video was played every hour on the hour and we were all GAGGING. I was 20yo and Madonna was the topic of every conversation then. Two things to check out: Her 1990 VMA performance of this song. It’s epic. The other thing that’s kinda cool to see is her direct influence 30 years later. The best example is Lady Gaga’s “Alejandro” video. Check it out and you will see the influence. Great reaction.

Listen to MSFB “Love is the Message,” Salsoul Orchestra “Ooh I Love it,” Diana Ross “Love Hangover” and Malcolm Maclaren “Deep In Vogue” - all these songs had deep roots in the Black/Latino lgbtq ballroom culture of NY in the 70’s and 80’s and Vogue (the song) has elements of all those songs. Vogue dancing had a moment in late 80’s where it spilled into the hipster nightlife of NY, where Madonna was hanging out. She sought out two Of the best Vogue dancers to include in her tour and help choreograph her tour. The images in this video are inspired by old Hollywood portrait/fashion photographers like Cecil Beaton, Horst P. Horst, George Platt Lynes (notable all gay) - who shot the same images all these Vogue dancers were trying to emulate through their dance.
