That is amazing. I actually have some of those drafting liners you used. And I have a set of drafting tools from my grandfather in a set he had. Thanks for this. Very inspiring.
How fantastic was that. Just such an artist. Fantastic video thank you.
I am now going of to watch more on you site.
So glad to have found your videos

Very amazing!!!
+ngrrplz Friendship goals.

Enjoyed your demo, especially using the feather and splashing ink! Thanks for sharing.
4:45 is that made out of Żywiec can ( Polish beer )
i saw it too! hahah
its a geometry tool used to make straight lines he talks about it on 2:50 the one your talking about is a bigger version of the first one.
If I may say so, this is a very simplistic approach to 'modern calligraphy'. As I understand this, contemporary calligraphy encompasses a lot more than this cheap trick.
nice polish accent, one of the brushes is made out of polish Żywiec beer can :D
Nice! I was trying to figure out what kind of accent he has. Awesome :)
:D
by saying accent I ment that he used something polish and that gave me some nostaligic impression : ), I may used the wrong word to describe it : P
Er,he's from the Caribbean.
That's interesting : D
You`re awesome i really love calligraphy its just something that i really enjoy. I love to look at other persons handwritings for some reason....
simply beautiful: i have a bone folder with an angled edge that I think might give a similar, but obviously smaller, effect.
WOW! I love the freedom and expertise of your work. The homemade ruling pen looks like it's made of soda can metal folded. How do you hold the sides together?
haha he is actually one of the best calligraphers. He does the invitations to the BAFTAs. He can do any scribe style and is the best instructor. Watch some of his other videos. This one was a bit weird because it's not formal calligraphy
im arabic calligraphy and im very like your technique ,so i hope to join a workshop for your technique
They create wonderful splashing, try being left handed 😂
Omgg totally in love with the last one!
Wonderful explanation and presentation. You are very skilled indeed. Your videos are very easy to follow and really inspire me. Thank you!
steve jobs kind of took hand calligraphy during his college years and now im trying to learn this. im only 14 but i already have interest in things like this :)
I just face palmed too hard
Loved the white on black.
I love this dude.
How do you prevent your ink from being runny. all the ink i have like attacks the paper once the nib comes in contact with the sheet...
Bit late to reply, but while I'm not sure about the ink side of things, it could also be your paper.
You can get paper that has a hydrophobic layer on it that lets the ink sit and dry on the surface, rather than soaking into the paper.
I'm sure there are other types as well, more suited for calligraphy, but look for Clairefontaine, Lechturn, Rhodia and other high quality paper (if you use fountain pens in daily life, you'll know this paper is amazing).
You can buy dotted, grid squared, lined or even blank for sketching. Though I think the dots are the best for practising writing, since the dots are light and non-intrusive, yet they provide adequate guidance when trying to make sure your letters are all the same size.
Can you share any tips on how to make one of those ruling pens out of an aluminum can?
"..Don't ask somebody under the age of twenty what this is; They'll be never able to tell you." nice one :)
Great series of videos by the way. Keep up the good work!
Oh! I loved that bit. Thank you for sharing and be well. bye
I am very impressed with your calligraphy. The pen you used towards the end of your video, did you make it yourself? I do bookbinding as a hobby and would love to learn calligraphy. Do you every use a goose quill? and last question: Is that a lovely Welsh accent I hear?
Pen made out of can of Polish beer - Żywiec! Nice : D
Love your videos. Very informative....This is the second video that I had viewed of yours. Looking forward to seeing all of them.
beautiful. you make it seem effortless.
You have very expressive performance technique. But video is good. I`d like it. Thank yu.
How did you make that tool which looks like a knife at the end?and btw: are you italian?
+TheMrFloorball looks like its just some really hard paper from a magazine or something folded over one of those sticks that the dr shoves down your throat
+TheMrFloorball Google "Cola Pen". Made from a thin-walled can, like Coca Cola.
really nice tut! thanks! And also I see that You like Polish beer ŻYWIEC because You made a pen out of a can :) NICE!!
where can i learn abot letter placement in modern calligraphy. i practice for hours daily but am stuck on that
This is amazing. Thank you sir. I really enjoy all your videos.
Such as the bigger things the smaller ones at the start were easily the very and most beautiful xx
i feel like ur murdering the paper w a knife pen, but thts cool
is this the LOTR font?
I'm 32 and I didn't learn how to use a ruling pen until I was 18, in an intro to design class in college. Are you sure your curriculum isn't unique? I frequently use a ruling pen to draw with, often in public, in NYC, and nobody ever seems to know what it is.
Haha! Awesome video sir. I'm a big fan of yours :-D Sir what's that script with which you're writing 'A quick brown fox...' ?
anyone know what the tool is called at the 3:38 mark?
Going to try it out
This is awesome! But I have not quite understood what is modern calligraphy and how to write it...
Thank you! I loved watching this! I watched it twice! :)
cool... but i consider this more of traditional style calligraphy. from what I've seen, traditional calligraphy is just using a braun tip nib.
Ruling pens ROCK! Nice vid.
can somebody tell me what music that is?
Just out of curiosity: do you ever use brushes?
Your eyebrows and hands look like calligraphy 😅. Love your work!
Gorgeous, love it.
Amazing! I want you to teach me!
very nice video. thanks for sharing. may i know whats the white ink?
+Man Hon Ying It's white gouache. It's kind of like watercolor, but more opaque.
I always thought of modern calligraphy as something more like The Oscar Font at scribblesandswirls (UA-cam won't let me post the link). Chic, organic. If this isn't modern calligraphy, what is it? I don't know what to google and I'd like to learn this. :)
This guy is awesome!
That is ok. For really cool modern calligraphy, check out Denis Brown
That was amasing.
I thought that was pretty Awesome!! Carry on with the great work..... :)
żywiec, widać że wie co dobre ! pozdrawiam

Can someone help me! Whats the name of the S at 2:27 ?
AceKunSan He said 'Quadrata'
Well i am fourteen in the US not Europe and I use a ruling pen everyday because I am in calculus trigonometry. Just about any 8th grade geometry teacher has kids use them.
Inspiring
This is awesome
I feel like he is a little bit hostile towards modern calligraphy..
It's sort of like those video's that tell you that you can learn dancing in 5 or 6 lessons.
The control of the pen takes hours and hours, if not weeks and months of practice to learn. You write an 'a' and keep copying it till its perfect. Maybe 20 pages of 'a'. . . .then you start on 'b'. . . .only another 24 letters to go.
Once you've done that might be ready to start on words. . . . . .
The idea's in the video are great, but it skips over the basic skills.
Wow!
i think i'm in love
Great
lol, the last tool was made of can of polish beer 'zywiec' :) cheers :)
hahah gościu puszką z żywca maluje
It's the Contrast
the k looks like a tilted coconut tree ... but ... this is awesome work ... :)
Trini!!! :)
Are you Trini By chance?
liked a knife)) have 2 try that )))
some how i found modern calligraphy both in appearance and execution to be very displeasing. Art is really subjective of course, and the scraping sound that makes me cringe probably doesn't help.
I want the title "Master Scribe"!
Aaauuggghhh, did anyone else cringe at the scratchy noises when he drew that huge, modern R?
me
i love your work, but this video was not teaching us how to write modern caligraphy
if i had all these mediums i could def do some damage!
Im prolly late but this is fucking amazing
i got to make me one of those aluminum can pens....., LORD!!
b-e-autiful
@fuwamova Polish... bear? Don't you mean beer :P?
hahah thought so
You sound Trinidadian!
My ears are aching!! hahah
Żywiec-polish beer ;D
I believe that people, who calls they painting "modern calligraphy" are understand, that they paining has nothing similar to calligraphy, but they want it to be "calligraphy", so they call it "modern calligraphy".
he makes it look so damn easy \
and when i do it its a failll >____
