- So with the subscriber count growing I feel it's time to introduce the shrimp who has dreams of becoming a shark!
This is the first of videos which I share my personal feelings and experience which I'll do every so often when I see the audience is growing..maybe uniting newbies together haha!
This time it's an introduction of what an engine cadet is before and upon joining a vessel.

To answer your question grades will only matter if your university or academy will contact a company for an interview.
If you manage to get an interview with a company representative I'm sure your marks won't matter.. What they will see is, in my opinion, your English comprehension and communication, your physical fitness, and how you answer their personal interview questions about the job..
At home I have saved all the questions I was asked in various interviews.. When I get back I'll try and share them with everyone.

cant find video about apprentice in engine but unfortunately i saw this video i admit it my theory knowledge about machinery are poor in the percentage of knowledge i rate myself 60% but according to some engineers 30% in school and 70% in actual like actual work in vessel.
Don't stress too much about not knowing.. A good officer will always try to help a cadet out! We are a team on board!

That sounds awesome my friend, I hope you have a successful and safe voyage, Ill make a video one day however do not worry so much about the Training Book, in the end I came back and they looked at it for less than 10 minutes. Basic advice (Just make sure all the signatures and stamps are there...the projects dont over do them, just the basic, focus on DOING and LEARNING in your time onboard)
Another small reply regarding BSM...you will have to do a training program where you log a lot of your activities on the computer. That is more important for learning and maybe a future in the company.
My boyfriend also an engine cadet but he told me the 1st engineer always gives him the work like mopping cleaning and being racist to him it's been 2 months nd he's still Doing the same 1st engineer isn't allowing him to go and learn more about machinery what he should be Doing in that case?
Hello Monika, first of all amazing that you are looking after your boyfriend and are worried about him, all seafarers should have someone like that at home, and second don't let him give up! I as a cadet studied a lot from manuals and from mental simulations. After I demonstrated knowledge by speaking up and even these videos I made as a cadet (it has been 3 years and I'm now 3rd engineer Sr.). And DON'T WORRY even as an officer 1st contract you will not know everything and learning will never stop. Learn to work hard and enjoy learning the engine room as a cadet.

However remember I'm just a 4th engineer hahah main engine is 2nd and chiefs responsibility we learn how to operate and participate in maintance but it requires years of experience to really learn the main engine.

I won't lie to you, It's not easy being a newbie. You may feel a little useless and be treated like a bother for not having practical skills, but you will slowly learn!
Sometimes officers are nice to cadets, others maybe forgot that they too were once new, but in either case its up to you to learn and love what you do, make the best even in the worst times! Success my Indian amigo!

New subscriber here, as an engine cadet is it good to take an apprenticeship on a fishing vessel?

I am unsure about being an engine cadet on fishing vessels, however make sure that the Main engine has atleast 750Kw of power! If not it cannot be counted for your training according to the STCW to become a maritime engineer internationally!

There is a saying that it's easier to find jobs when working on bigger vessels with high power. However in lower ranks nowadays it's difficult everywhere.. In my opinion graduate first then work hard and demonstrate your skill.
Maybe doors will open in the future, it's up to God and your strength newbie haha.
@@ShrimptoShark I see so it's true all about it. Anyway maybe I just do 2yrs of cadetship haha take 1yr in fishing vessel then try to take 1yr in cargo. I hate the system but it can't stop my passion for it. I say you do good videos and well detailed, one day I will learn all that stuffs you've shared

you are an engine cadet but the appleautes of Chief. Engg, is that just for show off or some background you have...I am not able to understand.
5th year cadet is 5 small stripes. Chief engineer has 4 thick stripes.
Amigo) My small advice...)) You made a tooooo long "speaking" video for 18 minutes... It's very hard to watch it. This takes too much time. Unfortunately UA-cam have it's own "unwritten" rules - if any of your subscribers or random viewers will find the link for your video and check it out that this is whole 18 minutes - only small % would click on your video, because it's too long. As for me even 9 minutes videos are too long (if they are in "speaking" format). 9 minutes are the best for any action or entertainment format. Try to make "speaking" videos no more than 5-6 minutes or divide it in several parts....))
Seaman’s Blog You're correct my friend, with other videos I'll try to keep it short, sweet, simple and clear.
However these personal videos are an exception, whoever is interested will watch them and maybe feel identified. That small % who will watch it all are those whom I'm sure will find this channel is a perfect fit.
18 minutes is no problem at all. I think it's worth it. Im already a 3rd engineer but i love to watch this kid's videos, all are amazing.
