19:44 That is Archaon, Lord of the End Times, one of the bigger villains in the setting introduced during the "Storm of Chaos" storyline on the tabletop. He is the latest of a series of "Everchosen", supremely powerful Chaos warlords who unite the disparate forces of Chaos into a massive host bent on destroying the world. In the Total War games, he basically serves the same role, leading a great Chaos invasion during the late-game that will completely steamroll you if you're not prepared. This adds another layer to your strategic decisions, as now you're not conquering territories and defeating rivals merely to fulfill the campaign victory conditions, but also to become powerful enough to defeat this invasion when it comes. And no, that's not tattoos he's wearing, but the Crown of Domination, one of several powerful Chaos artefacts he had to recover in order to claim the mantle of Everchosen.
36:35 That Viking-looking guy is Wulfrik the Wanderer, another big-name Chaos character. His deal is that after endlessly running his mouth about how he's the greatest warrior who ever lived, the Chaos Gods cursed him to forever venture around the world trying to live up to that boast. They also gave him "the Gift of Tongues"; he magically knows every language in existence, and uses it to insult potential opponents so they accept his challenges of single combat.

He canonically succeeds, and that's why Warhammer Fantasy was cancelled, and why we now have Age of Sigmar, which is a few Surviving Human, Elven, and Dwarven gods evacuating the souls of their followers to a series of new realms.
Plus other stuff happened like a guy ascending to become the God of Death, and orks are still around too, because of course they survived the end of the world.

As soon as you said "He's been through some shit!", I knew I had to comment 😁 Generally speaking, the ork warboss Grimgor Ironhide is better described as 'shit' just waiting for someone to happen too! He was something of a legend.
Also, some of the more interesting critters in these trailers: the vulture-dragon in the first trailer is a Changer of Ways, a greater daemon of the Chaos god, Tzeentch. The cavalry charge of gryphon-like creatures is made up of demigryphs, which I believe are unique to Warhammer. And lastly, the minotaur/centaur thing is a dragon ogre, like a giant ogre/dragon hybrid that normally serves Chaos.

GW has been far too erratic of late to put much stock in anything they say until it happens; so, while I would love them to relaunch the Old World as fantasy's answer to the Horus Heresy, I'll believe it when I see it 🙃

the second game has some of the best trailers, and added WAYYYY more factions for players to play and armies to control.
Basic gameplay is managing an army, and takes place on a MASSIVE over-world map, in-between battles you basically look at what is a google maps version of this fantasy world, being able to zoom in and out and tell your armies where to move and what cities to attack or defend , and managing your cities and economy (gotta pay your troops right 😉)
Then when battle starts you get a much more close in look at the fight and can direct troops in a much more strategic fashion.
In battle you never control a single unit directly, more like you tell groups of troops where to go and then watch and see how they perform with the directions you have given them. Play smart and flank your enemies etc etc and your guys have a good chance to come out on top, play bad and your guys might just lose.
Its a fun game, the massive single player campaigns can take a long time to finish. Im talking months of play to fully control the world and win.
But yea, the Total war series of games is published by SEGA, and they teamed up with the guys who own Warhammer to create Total war Warhammer. Traditionally the Total war games used to be about real world wars and events that actually happened in REAL history and was very historical fiction based. But with this they ventured into fantasy and it went gangbusters popular, the 3rd game in the Total War Warhammer series is about to release and the 2nd game had SOOOOOO many expansions and factions updates.

Basically Bretonnia is a Fantasy version of the Angevin Empire, when it was ruled by Richard the Lionheart. That empire was covering the western part of France, England, and some bits here and there and was ruled by the House of Anjou, a French nobility house that had their capital in Angers (hence the Angevin name) and Chinon, in western France, a bit south East of Brittany.
That period is characterised by the Third crusades, and so like you spotted, the Knights of Bretonnia are heavily inspired by the legends of the Quest for the Graal, the Lady of the Lake, and so on.
In Warhammer, Bretonnia is located in a zone that had a lot of Elven colonies thousand of years ago, and so that's why some of their cities go so high in the sky with refined look.
Their current king, Louen Leoncoeur, is basically Richard the Lionheart himself (coeur = heart in French, where Richard is called "Coeur de Lion") fantasy version.
They've got pretty low technology (since they're inspired by a 11-12th century empire), but lots of knights, including Graal knights, superhumans empowered by the Lady.

Cool that you are finally reacting to the warhammer fantasy world, there are a lot more factions than in 40K. After watching the trailers for the second and now coming out third game you could maybe watch also some lore videos. To answer some of your questions the big guy with the hammer who you thought was a centaur is a dragon-ogre or saggoth and he is a beast of chaos so yeah in warhammer fantasy there are a few chaos aligned factions like warriors of chaos, deamons of chaos, norsca, skaven and the beastmen. I think there will be some more factions that you could like for example the undead which you saw are called vampire counts basically undead empire but there are also other undead factions, undead vampire pirates vampire coast they are called and undead egyptians called tomb kings (somewhat like the necrons in 40K). As to the lady of the lake thing they are more french than english but the warhammer fantasy world looks smilar to our world, continent wise so there is a britain where the highelves live, there are also so to say the americas with differnt civilizations, if i remember correctly you are from canada so USA and Candada in warhammer fantsay would be dark elves very similar to the drukari from 40K the torture slavers you will not like them i think.

He is called the everchosen as he is the one who leads the forces of chaos chosen by all 4 chaos gods to destroy the world, a intresting thing to think about is that he is also a human who was ones a priest to the empire of man but lost his belief when their god called Sigmar did not answer him or his prayers, but the chaos gods did.

Warhammer kinda represents our world, that means if you think about he warhammer map, bretonnia in the west represents france just with british culture, more central is the Empire represents the rest of europe but mostly german, well their emperor is called Karl Franz and that Volkmars name is von Hindenstein, orcs are mostly british hooligans meaning they have a specific accent, the dwarfs are just dwarfs with a lil viking taste and love vengeance and their ancestors and technology and the Vampire counts are like romanian Dracula vampires, they do not have actual technology but are very fancy. The whole total war warhammer story is a bit extremely weird but looks awesome :D I hope I got everything right but of course there is much more to explore. Perhaps a lil lets play from ya :P

Warhammer fantasy has so many cool races; the whole setting is really well-realized in terms of atmosphere for the different factions. I'm with you on Norsca - they're my personal favorite from game 1 just in terms of sheer cool factor between the viking raider aesthetic, the frost wyrms (the two headed ice dragon) and what are essentially super metal werewolves and full-on war mammoths that you can field in your armies.
If you're interested in getting some insight on a few of the named characters - and a bit of comedy besides - I'd recommend the Noob's Guide series by Cody Bonds. Granted, most of the characters he goes over are from game 2 factions (in other words, better to watch after you've acquainted yourself with the Total War Warhammer 2 trailers), but they manage to both be quite informative and hilarious to go through. It's even gotten to the point that fan creators like him end up making what many fans consider to be just flat-out bad writing from Games Workshop's side of things still feel cool by giving you the highlight reel to a lot of it. Looking forward to what's to come, whatever you decide!

@@DefinitelyNotDefinitiveGames Sadly, part of that was because the main Norsca trailer (with the awesome shot of the mammoth behind the raider, whose name is Wulfrik the Wanderer) was a cinematic trailer; a lot of the others were shot using in-game graphics, hence the difference in quality. But, as I'm sure many others have already stated, the devs really stepped up their game for the trailers for WHII. I hope you guys enjoy when the time comes!

@@DefinitelyNotDefinitiveGames Yeah, Wood Elves are all about ranged combat and archers. Their melee infantry are generally either bad/expensive for what they can do/outclassed by those of other factions, but their archers and other missile troops are superb. Not only do they do a lot of damage, but most of them have special abilities like armour-piercing damage, or a 360 attack radius (so they can fire on any enemies in range without having to reposition), or being able to fire while moving. As such, they're very good at kiting, picking off enemies from great distances, and generally being very hard to pin down. If you're able to close the distance and fight them hand-to-hand, they'll almost always lose, but if they can stay out of your reach, they'll tear you to shreds. This also makes them very difficult for novices to play as, as they require a lot of micro to use effectively.

A Warhammer video? You know what that means! Time for some notes.
The vulture you saw was a Lord of Change (Sarthorael the Everwatcher), a greater daemon of Tzeentch. (They exist in wh40k too)
Thorgrim Grudgebearer (the dwarf king talking in the trailer) has an on kill animation in the game where he strikes a grudge from the book (yes he carries that book into battle).
The Centaur you see in the Warriors of Chaos trailer is Kholek Suneater, a Dragon Ogre Shaggoth. In lore he's a lot bigger than in the game (his dad was once mistaken for a mountain)
If you like the Undead you will love Total War Warhammer 2 (vampire pirates and skeleton egyptians).
Manfred (the main vampire) has a legitimate claim to the empire throne (as he is technically an elector count who can be voted for to become emperor).
The 3 eyed guy is Archaeon the Everchosen, Lord of the End Times (some connection to the everwatcher) the 3rd “eye” is a sign that he is favored by Chaos undivided (something extremely hard to be since the 4 gods has a wee tendency to fight amongst themselves).
Do not underestimate Skarnsnik the warlord of eight peaks, when a goblin can boss orks around it should be feared.
Squigs comes in many many form, and in wh40k they have even bomb squigs (no points for guessing what they do).
(End Times spoilers) The Green knight from Bretonnia is best described as a fusion between King Arthur and the Green Knight from The King Arthur mythos.
Wulfrik the wanderer (Norsca leader) is blessed by Khorne to be able to insult anyone in their own language in such a way that they will attack him in frothing rage)
Final note, I have recommended this before, but once you are done with Total War Warhammer 1-3 trailers you should watch A noobs guide to total war warhammer, by Cody Bonds.
It’s similar humor to that of Brickys videos but about these games and the fantasy universe.

That big vulture boi summoned by the corrupted priest of Sigmar is a Lord of Change, one of the Greater Daemons of Tzeentch, the Changer of the Ways.
The Dwarf one is my favorite, because Dwarves are the best, and any time there is large scale underground cavern city stuff, I love it. One of the Grudges mentioned by High King Thorgrim Grudgebearer (wicked name) is that of Josef Bugman. This man was the most renowned Master Brewer in the entire world, whose beers were served to The Emperor of Man and the High King himself.
But after returning from a delivery one day, he returned to find his brewery destroyed, a burning wreck, ruined by goblin raiders. Josef and his companions swore a mighty vengeance upon the goblins after that day. The Dwarves have never forgotten this, and will never, ever forgive. The Dwarves take their ale VERY seriously.
Those big spiky bois are the warriors of Chaos, mutated and corrupted into daemonic destroyers.
I think those uniforms look more chartreuse, at least to me :P Those undead bois are the forces of the Vampire Counts, lots of zombies and skeletons, along with Blood Knights and Terrorgheists (the big bat thing).
The Arch Lector guy basically IS in 40K: we call them Space Marine Chaplains :D
That horned Elf guy is very much like the Celtic god Cernunnos, Master of the Wild Hunt.
Also, the failed Warhammer MMO, Age of Reckoning, had some great cinematics too.

Yes, original Warhammer by way of Total War! It is about time you two did this, so sweet. Just to clarify, Total War is a completely different franchise that normally has nothing whatsoever to do with Warhammer or even fantasy, all other games in the series are set in different real world historical periods. This, 2 and the upcoming 3 are just Warhammer based installments of the Total War series. Totally worth digging deeper into the Warhammer world and lore. While it is separate from 40k, a single fantasy world as opposed to a sci Fi universe, as you start digging you will find certain similarities and parallels. For example, the Orcs are much the same, and daemons, Chaos, and the four Chaos gods exist and are much the same in the Warhammer world as they are in the 40k universe. Gameplay is a combination of turn based management of cities, resources, and army movements and real time tactical battles, and there are single player options available, including a story campaign. Cheers!

Glad you're enjoying it the trailers! These are strategy games, part of the Total War series.
Lore... there is a LOT. Kinda hard to know where to start. Warning, essay incoming!
Warhammer Fantasy is inspired by Elric, Lord of the Rings, Conan, and wears its' influences on it's sleeve a little more than Warhammer 40k. It's a world in Endtimes, where the various big bads compete to see who can snuff out everyone else first, and the Elves, Dwarves and Humans huddle together to try and earn a little longer. There have been several editions of Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay, pen and paper adventure books, as well as novel series and obviously the Wargame itself, and you could write whole essays on, say, just the Magic Colleges of wizards in the Empire.
    --
The Empire, founded by the legendary hero Sigmar, who is basically Conan, are heavily modelled on the Holy Roman Empire (Renaissance Germany. Historians always joke that the HRE was not Holy, Roman or an Empire!). Given the secrets of Iron, beer and Black Powder by the dwarves, and Magic by the Elves, they have flexibility the Dwarves lack and urgency the Elves do not know. Emperor Karl-Franz does his best to unite the elector-Counts and their scheming nobility into the force needed to survive the coming apocalypse.
    --
The Brettonians, another human civilization are based on early mediaeval France, and the legends of Charlemagne that the King Arthur stories got mixed up with. They choose not to use guns, or the advanced industry of the Empire, instead their Knightly ways are rewarded by a strange magic granted by The Lady of the Lake. Their common people are also incredibly downtrodden and poor as a result.
    --
The Vampire counts come from Sylvania, the easternmost province of the Empire. Vampires hail from Khemri, Warhammer's Egypt analogue (you'll see them in TW:WH2 as the Tomb Kings) after the Great Necromancer, Nagash, created the dark arts of Necromancy and rose up all the dead in the world before being assassinated at the heihgt of his power. Some time after, the mysterious count Vlad von Carstein came to power as Count of Sylvania and tried to overthrow the Empire with vast armies of the Undead, it has been impossible to eradicate Vampires from the nobility of the Empire, and such a violent world is never lacking for corpses. No matter how many necromancers are burned at the stake by Witch Hunters, there are always those willing to try and cheat death through magic or alchemy, and they make willing accomplices to the Vampire Counts, and the ancient burial mounds and cairns dotted throughout the Empire provide ancient kings and chieftans whose souls still burn to to fight as Wights and Wight Kings.
    --
The Chaos Gods from Warhammer 40k are very present here, seen more as an apocalyptic christian style "Endtimes" doom than their more Cthulu-y corrupting style in 40k.
They have corrupted the lands of Norsca, creating the Marauder armies, heavy metal style Vikings such as Wulfric the Wanderer who you've seen in the trailers. The early days of the world left much of the world with pockets of corruption, mostly in the deep forests, and the mutant Beastmen, the Children of Chaos, wander these woods, hating anything pure or organised. The men of the Empire and Brettonia are not immune to such corruption either, and the greatest of all who fight in the name of Chaos are drawn far to the North, where the Daemon armies clash eternally in a truly bizarre nightmare land called the Chaos Wastes, from where they return changed into the Warriors of Chaos, empowered by the dark gods and armed and armoured with baroque but heavy weapons and armour of dark iron, and accompanied by Chaotic monsters such as Kholek Suneater, a Dragon Ogre, featured in the "Ascended" trailer. The man with the horns and red eyes and facial tattoos you commented on is Archaon, Lord of the End Times, The Everchosen. Blessed by all the Chaos Gods, it is said he is destined to bring the apocalypse and destroy the world.
    --
The Dwarves and Elves once ruled the world, a sea empire and and an mountain empire. With both so powerful it was probably inevitable that the two would come to blows, with the arrogance of the Elves and the stubbornness of the dwarves meaning that both empires were broken. The Dwarves found themselves unable to hold onto their vast kingdom as Orks, Goblins, Skaven (Ratmen, you'll see them in TW:WH2) and other creatures flooded into the now poorly defended lands, and the Dwarves, a people of (metaphorical) Iron and Stone are unable to accept that their time is done, filled with spite and bitterness they are fonder of old hatred and grudges than they are of their children. A backwards-looking people, they cannot accept that anything today is not worse than it was a hundred years ago. Still, even the remnants of their old power is pretty potent. Dwarves are tough and skilled, their metalwork beyond compare and their painstaking nature makes them incredible engineers and smiths.
The Elves quit their war with the Dwarves when their civil war broke out. Total War 2 will deal with the main two parties - those who would become the High Elves and the Dark Elves - but there were those who refused to leave the new lands they had colonized, who felt betrayed and abandoned by their haughty kin. Instead, alone and suffering they found their way to the forests of Athel Loren, where they discovered the forests alive with magic, and angry at the predations of the dwarves and beastmen. They made their pacts with the forest and formed a new civilisation, the Wood Elves or Asrai in their own tongue. The Wood Elves must defend the forest and placate the angry, bloody spirits that dwell within.
    --
The Orks, Goblins and Snotlings (collectively referred to as the Greenskins) are much as they are in 40k. The Orks as the largest and most violent of those peoples are obsessed with war, taking a savage joy in fighting. It is said if you lock an Ork in a room with a big stick, sooner or later it will beat itself to death out of love of violence. Simple and uncomplicated, the Ork tribes fight anyone they can find, even if that means each other, and it takes a Warboss of rare skill, determination and scariness to unite the Greenskins long enough to prosecute a successful war. The Goblins are smaller, smarter and much more spiteful than their larger brethren. They can and do form their own armies, especially the light-fearing Night Goblins who infest the ruins of the Dwarven realm, but more often they can be found following Orks around, finding their bigger, dumber kin useful to hide behind. Goblins do all the dirty work in Greenskin armies - scouting, sneaking and thinking - which suits them fine, as the Orks tend to be too direct and impatient to do it. Orcs and Goblins also make use of many of the wandering monsters of the world, such as Giant Spiders who are often worshipped by goblin tribes, Trolls who seem to get on well with Orks, and Giants, sad lumbering hulks who will fight in exchange for the strong drink the Goblin Shamans brew.

Hopefully there's enough context there for the trailers without drowning you in details!
Warhammer is also based around a lot of British jokes and stereotypes. The Dwarves mostly speak with broad Yorkshire accents (made famous by game of thrones and the Starks) because the stereotype of Yorkshire men is gruff, hardy grumbles who insist nothing is as good as it in Yorkshire, and that everything is worse now. If you have a moment, check out the 'three Yorkshire men' sketch on UA-cam, it's short and very funny.

Aight, you asked for it, sorry for the wall of text below.
There is a lot of lore for Warhammer Fantasy as well, but Games Workshop basically shut down the setting in 2014-15 ostensibly due to low sales of figures (40k was selling a lot better), and then they rebooted fantasy into what is known as Age of Sigmar, a setting that is loosely a "sequel" but a lot more exaggerated. However, since several video games with Warhammer Fantasy has gotten very popular, Games Workshop has been working to revive the setting as a tabletop game in some capacity, although we don't quite know how.
Anyway, the old Fantasy setting is heavily based on the real world, with the world map resembling Earth for the most part, but with various changes. Warhammer Total War 1 focused on a region of the world that's called The Old World, which was basically Warhammer Europe. A lot of the factions in Fantasy are also based on historical civilizations. While the Fantasy world is pretty dark and gruesome, it was never quite as "grimdark" as 40k. For example, the "good" races (humans, elves, dwarfs) mostly get along fairly well, as opposed to the rampant xenophobia in 40k. I say "mostly" though, because things get heated, and Dwarfs and Elves have a long-standing enmity that they like keeping alive.
    - The Empire is the main "protagonist" of the Fantasy universe (a bit like the Imperium in 40k). It is located in the middle of the Old World, and is heavily inspired by 15-16th century Germany, called the Holy Roman Empire. It has a lot of loosely-bound principalities, counties and baronies that all in principle bow to the Emperor, but in reality they fight each other often as well, and scheme and connive. The Emperor is elected from among eligible noble families, and the current one is Karl Franz, who is by all considerations a badass and a good dude. The Empire is polytheistic, with many gods for different aspects of life, but their main god is the deified founder of the Empire, Sigmar. He is their patron deity, and the "warhammer" in Warhammer is named after his, well, warhammer.
    - Bretonnia lies to the west of the Empire, and is basically a mix of British Arthur legends and French Charlemagne legends, with a good dash of Monty Python Holy Grail jokes thrown in. It's basically magical medieval France. The nobility is tied by strict laws of chivalry and the peasantry is deeply exploited and downtrodden, but ostensibly protected from outside forces. They look more medieval than the Empire, with no gunpowder or crossbows or steampower, mainly for religious reasons. The nobles get blessings from their patron goddess, the Lady of the Lake, who empowers their knights with varying degrees of magic protection and powers as long as they keep their vows and such. Allegedly.
    - Between the Empire and Bretonnia lies Athel Loren, the magical forest of the Wood Elves. It's basically Mirkwood or Lothlorien from Lord of the Rings, but with a good bit of Shakespeare's Midsummer Night's Dream and Celtic (welsh) myths thrown in. Athel Loren is a magical forest, that is bigger on the inside, keeps shifting shape, and time does now flow evenly there. People can disappear in there and come out years later with no memory, or they can come out immediately, feeling like they've been wandering for days or weeks. Often they do not return at all. The Wood Elves live in symbiosis with the forest, and get a lot of magic powers for it, but it's a careful balance, as much about protecting the forest from outsiders as it is protecting outsiders from the forest. The Elves are the least sinister thing that lives in there. Some of the spirits there want to basically kill all other beings. The forest, and the beings within, are both light and dark.
    - The Vampire Counts is a collective term for vampires who take up leadership and claim power, usually over lesser types of undead (ghosts, skellies, ghouls, etc.) and sometimes living people. The most significant of these vampire "counties" is Sylvania (Because Transylvania obviously, lol), which is technically a part of the Empire, but basically governs itself and is considered a wasteland by the Imperials. The clan of vampires who governs Sylvania are called the Von Carsteins, and they believe that through their ancestry, they are the rightful heirs to the Imperial crown. They have tried taking it several times, but have failed so far. There are other clans around who have other goals.
    - The Dwarfs (they don't use the plural of Dwarves in Warhammer, it's a whole thing) live in a giant mountain chain that separates the Old World from the lands further east. Imagine if someone dropped the Andes mountains between Poland and Russia, so it went from the Arctic Sea down to Iraq. That's basically the World's Edge Mountains. Or just think of the Misty Mountains from Lord of the Rings. Dwarfs are... well, they're dwarfs. Bearded Scottish/Northern English short people who love building and digging and doing steampunk technology. Infamously conservative and slow to change, they're ostensibly dying out, and have been so for the last two-thousand years, at least. Yet they're still around, so you know, will probably be around for a while still. They also keep grudges, and never forget them. They basically live in city-state like groups called "karaks" (holds), each with their own king, but they all officially answer to the High King of Karaz-a-Karak, the biggest and oldest karak. He's the dude writing in the book in the trailer.
    - You know how Orks in 40k work, and Orks in Fantasy are basically the same, except with more boars and beasties and no crazy technology (at least a lot less). They love to fight, and will go anywhere, anytime to get a good scrap. In Fantasy, Goblins have a much bigger personality of their own, and some tribes are basically all Goblins, such as the Night Goblins who live underground and love pestering the Dwarfs.
    - Chaos Warriors are pretty similar to Chaos in 40k, but in fantasy they had one army type of demons and one army type of mortal humans. It's the human army that you see in Warhammer Total War 1. (Incidentally, the Demons were divided into four factions for the upcoming Warhammer 3., one for each Chaos God.). Chaos Warriors in Fantasy are basically "evil Conan the Barbarian" but with lots of weird monsters. They loosely occupy areas that correspond to Scandinavia (Norsca) and the Eurasian Steppe (Chaos Wastes) in the real world, and are sorta-kinda inspired by such groups as Vikings, Huns, Mongols, etc. (but they're really more like generic fantasy barbarians). Additionally, some Chaos Warriors are "blessed" with special suits of armor lock them inside, effectively turning them into fantasy terminators. They all mainly come from the areas around the north pole or the far north, because in the Warhammer Fantasy universe, that's where there is a polar gateway to the realms of Chaos. It's a whole thing. Basically Chaos energies surge from the pole southwards, feeding into the lands and people, creating monsters, driving people insane, and also actually making magic possible (even good magic, supposedly). These are called the Winds of Magic. Chaos worshippers prefer to channel them raw and unfiltered, which makes them complete lunatics.
    - Norsca is, as mentioned, one of the Chaos-worshipping human cultures, based on a peninsula just north of the Empire that is the equivalent of Scandinavia. They're actually the least Chaos-corrupted group, but they're the ones the Empire tends to fight most regularly. In the lore, Norscans also frequently trade with the Empire and work for them as mercenaries, or sail the ocean to trade or raid, but they kinda cut this element out for the Total War games, instead focusing on them as monster hunters.
    - Beastmen are another Chaos worshipping faction, residing in the various forests of the world. They're a metric shit-tonne of them in the Empire, only slightly less in Bretonnia, and some basically anywhere. They used to be the favorites of the Chaos Gods a long time ago, supposedly, but they got tossed aside once the Chaos Gods discovered humans. This makes them deeply bitter, and they hate all sorts of civilization, wanting to raze down all cities, towns and settled life, and hunt and kill freely. They also hope to reclaim the favor of the Chaos Gods. There's a bit of a moral thing going on, where they probably once started worshipping the Chaos Gods to save their untainted woodlands, but now the very presence of them corrupts and twists forests and breaks the land, so they fucked themselves. Some of them are also just mutated humans that get put out to die, and it's possible that this is how they originated, but it's hard to tell.
I've only mentioned the ones in Warhammer Total War 1, there are loads more factions or cultures in Warhammer 2, and as-yet-unreleased for Warhammer 3, plus a bunch that never got an actual army officially (like the Halflings or the Amazons), but are in the lore.

Whoo! Warhammer reactions! I've played these games, they're among my favourite Total War games of all time. Tangent: Total War is a game series that's been going on for decades now. They are Grand Strategy games where the goal is to dominate the known world. Primarily they do historical games set in iconic time periods, like the Napoleonic Wars or Sengoku Jidai, but with Warhammer Fantasy, they're set in the iconic world it belongs to (sometimes called The Fated Place). Essentially, this world is very similar to Earth, if you look at the continents and such, with the greatest differences being the terrain of the landmasses, some additional landmasses added in and magic being a highly volatile and integral part of the world. This first game, Warhammer 1, is set in a variation of Europe, known as The Old World. The two other main regions are The New World (The Americas and Africa) and Cathay (East Asia).
If you'd like, I'll break down the different factions you encounter in this reaction, giving a brief overview of each. As with all my breakdowns it's probably gonna be a bit of "light reading" again, sorry about that :D
Starting off with the first faction of Humans, known as The Empire. It's important to note that there are MANY different Human factions in this world, including several who do not show up in the first game. That said, The Empire is among the most important human factions. As with everything Warhammer, there are no "good" guys, but The Empire can be seen as the "most good" you'll get. If you consider conscripting kids age 10 and up into the military "good". This is done because the Empire is always at war with something, be that the Greenskins, The Beastmen, The Forces of Chaos, Vampires or other things, and usually many of these at the same time. In short, they desperately cling to civilization by doing EVERYTHING they can while vehemently resisting Chaos, an insidious force that corrupts everything.
Tangent 2: Chaos and Magic are intrinsically linked, so this world which is so full of magic and would not survive without it is thus always teethering on the edge of being swallowed up by the forces of Chaos, and cutting off magic is nigh impossible (people have tried, it did not end well. Ulthuan exists as a safeguard, but that's for Warhammer 2.)
Next faction we see here is the Dwarves, or "Dawii" as they call themselves. Stunted ones, if the Greenskins are to be believed. The Dwarves of the Warhammer universe are creatures of sheer willpower and desire for revenge against ALL who have wronged them. And this is not just personal revenge, no their entire society is based around Grudges, and repaying those. Repaying a grudge can lead to another sin being committed that'll have to be repaid, so its an endless cycle. One half of the Greenskins, the Goblins, are constantly at war with the Dwarves and thus the list of grudges is long. Humans, particularly The Empire, have somehow managed to hold relatively friendly relations with the Dwarves, mostly because they have the same enemies. Vampires, Greenskins, Chaos forces etc.
Our third group would be the Forces of Chaos, or Chaos Warriors. These are essentially people who have fallen to the corruptive influence of Chaos and are now more or less a warrior host under the command of Archaon the Everchosen, a name that fits well. This creature just doesn't die, even in the game you have to kill him 3 times before he is finally defeated. "Forever Chosen" indeed. The Forces of Chaos have a lot of monsters under their command, gifted to them by the Chaos Gods who reside in the Chaos Realm, where all magic stems from. So to augment their fallen human meatshields, they have massive beasts of war like the "centaur" creature you saw. I dont know what they are exactly but I remember that they can grow infinitely and are ageless, so the largest of their kin are the size of mountains.
Fourth group we see in these cinematics would be the Greenskins, a collective term for Orcs, Goblins and their various warbeasts and hired mercenaries, including Ogres (a faction we'll see in Warhammer 3, but long story short they will fight for ANYONE if the price is right, so both Chaos and Orcs have Ogres as part of their armies.) Very briefly, the Greenskins LOVE fighting, and thus they will always be battling someone. If they dont fight others, they will fight each other instead. Loyalty is not a concept they know, only fear and strength. Might makes right. Goblins are literally used as ammunition by the Greenskin siege vehicles, because they're weak so they are fated to die.
Fifth faction would be The Vampires, lead by our boy Mannfred von Carstein. This guy stole the secrets of immortality from the Tomb Lords in Africa and came back to conquer The Empire, though throughout his ventures he taught many the dark secrets of vampirism. The von Carsteins claim rulership of the Empire and their claim is not baseless, but given their dark nature and the Empire's "righteousness" streak, such claims fall on deaf ears. Despite that, in the game it IS possible to ally with the Empire as Vampires which is ridiculously hilarious :D
The sixth faction are known as The Beastmen, obviously. The Beastmen are a force of nature, quite literally so, but corrupted by Chaos' insidious influence. They abhor civilization and seek to destroy it wherever they go, travelling in large warbands known as Brayherds. The Beastmen will fight ALL forces, be they "good" like The Empire of "bad" like the Greenskins. If they hold cities, they are targets.
    The seventh faction is the Wood Elves who live in their ancient forests. Theirs is a repeating cycle of life and death, bound to the magical forest realm they call home. The Wyld Hunt, one of their ritualistic events, is essentially their all-out assault on those who would threaten their sacred home. Primarily this is the Bretonnia faction. Speaking of;
Eight faction: Bretonnia. Whereas The Empire is based off of medieval europe to a large degree, Bretonnia is based off Arthurian legend as you noticed. Knights and Chivalry and all that stuff. What they dont speak of is how poorly treated the peasantry is in Bretonnia, because of course there can be no forces of good without despair in a Warhammer game. Bretonnia is even more "good" than The Empire, as long as you're noble-born or get adopted into the ranks of their military and achieve Knighthood. Otherwise, your life is going to be miserable, but such is your lot in life. Bretonnias two main rivals would be a faction of Vampires along their coastline and the Wood Elves whose sacred realm borders Bretonnia's own. Beyond that, Norsca assault their northern shores and Greenskins live in the eastern mountains. As well, Beastmen trample their lands from the south. In short Bretonnia has their fair share of enemies, many of them mutual with enemies of The Empire and thus they find easy allies among one another.
Ninth and final faction of Warhammer 1 is The Norsca. In short, they are viking-inspired raiders who attack the southern nations to rob them of wealth. Land expansion isn't their priority or playstyle. Interestingly, they are forces of Chaos and thus can ally with Archaon when he appears in the world, but you can also choose to oppose him, in which case you do so with very few allies as you've probably been raiding and pillaging half the Old World by that point, so everyone basically hates you.
Thank you so much for reacting to one of my favourite franchises of all time! Keep an eye out for that "advisor" guy who was trying to talk over the shouting Greenskin horde and then travelling to the Norsca, he shows up plenty throughout the games and the trailers. Essentially, he functions as the in-game tutorial advisor, regardless of which faction you play as. (Well for the most part, some factions have their own advisors.) Basically he teaches you how to play the game, which in some ways makes him the most interesting character of all since he seems to have connections with everyone from vampires to greenskins to Norsca and The Empire and many more.

@@DefinitelyNotDefinitiveGames Storywise, the focus surely is on single player, but I had the most fun in multiplayer. If you own both TW:W 1 and TW:W 2, you can play a massive campaign on a huge map, where all factions are playable (well as long as you own the DLCs for many of them ;)).
The cool thing in multiplayer is, that players can participate, even if it's not their turn. When player A fights a battle, they can choose to share control of their army with player B. What's more: they can also allow Player B to take control of an AI army to make battles against AI controlled oponents more interesting.
It makes for a super fun experience, just hanging out (in a room or on discord), chatting while the active player does all the kingdom management parts of the game, and then playing the battles together, either as co-op commanders or adversaries.
If you are playing opposing factions that are located closely enough on the map, you might of course also meet in glorious battle :D

Awesome to see you get into the Total War Warhammer franchise. Love this game series. And even though the first game had some of the weakest factions in my opinion so did it kick of an awesome series of games.
Wanted to add some cool lore also, the green knight who appeared in the Britonnia trailer is called well The Green Knight, he is a spiritual force that comes to Britonnias help when they need it the most. Kind of like a holy angel in your darkest hour.
And one really cool feature these games have is the mode called Mortal Empires in the second game. As the 1st, 2nd and 3rd games all take part in different areas of the Warhammer world so do you not have access to the other factions in the base campaigns, but Mortal Empires combines the map of Warhammer 1 & 2 and gives you access to all the factions you own. All Total War games are strategy games but the reason people love it so much is becuase they changed the ususal strategy formula and basically made a hybrid between, Real Time Strategy and Turn Based Strategy. What I mean by that is you as the player get to pick a faction and manage it like your own kingdom from a top down view of a 3d map. You can upgrade your cities, construct many different types of building to manage your economy, public order, most Total War games also have a political side to it in which you basically try to manage your political party and keep everyone happy and try to avoid a Civil War or rebellion. Also you can manage your armies and choose which units to recruit whilst also keeping an eye on their upkeep cost because you don't want to go bankrupt. And the top down map view of the game works like a turn based strategy game, every turn you can do a limited amount of things like upgrading buildings or moving your army around to a certain extent. (all armies have limited movement withing a single turn, but you can upgrade your generals or heroes to get more movement points.)
And meanwhile when you attack an enemy army or besiege a city that's where the game turns into Real Time Strategy. You load into a specific battle map reflecting the terrain or city you chose to fight on the campaign map. It basically turns into a battle sim where you control each individual unit real time. You can use different formations, abilities or if you play a Total War game with a fantasy setting you can use magic spells and such. So that's just kinda the gist of it. It's kinda hard to explain but yea these are the basics.
Also I think Bethany would really enjoy the historical Total War games since they made a ton of them and in many different eras of history.
You can play TW Rome 1 or 2 and play through the rise of the Roman Republic and make it into an empire, or play as Hannibal and try to change history by defeating Rome. You can also play a ton of Gallic, Britannic and Germanic tribes. Of course you can choose Sparta or Greece or any of of the successor kingdoms of Alexanders disolving empire, or try TW Troy where you can play in the Bronze age and play through the Trojan war and pick iconic characters like Achilles or Hector. There is also TW Empire and Napoleon where you can go colonize the new world or play as the Iroquois Confederacy and fight back the colonies. (Also I don't think I have to explain TW Napoleon. :D)
You can play TW Attila and witness the fall of the Roman Empire or play as them and try to save it. Further down the list you can play TW Medieval 2 to get a great Medieval experience. TW Three Kingdoms is about one of the most interesting periods in Chinese history where hundreds of Warlords were fighting to unite China. TW Shogun 2 is the place where you want to get some top tier Samurai action. There are also ton of DLC to these games where you can play many great historical events like the Crusades, American Revolution, Rise of Charlemagne. Plus the modding communtity is absolutely incredible, from Game of Thrones and Lord of the Rings and Warcraft mods where they basically made a brand new game with them that's how detailed they are.
The Total War series is so great if you are a history nerd plus of course the fantasy side of it is great as well with Warhammer and mods.
Really looking forward to the other two parts guys! Great video as always! :) (Pls sorry if this was a lot I just got carried away :D)

@@DefinitelyNotDefinitiveGames The campaign is single player but you can play with or against other people in co-op. But most people play single player. And when I play with other people it's ususally with friends just fooling around. Also there are Multiplayer battles where it is a lot more competitive where you don't play a campaign and manage cities it's just real time battles against other players. Before the match you pick which faction you want to play and which units you want to choose kind of like choosing a deck in a card game. Then you just battle a another players army and then that's it. They ususally last for 15-20 minutes and this is where most of the competitions happen for pro players.
