A little history on Luthor Harkon (the vampire pirate, for context):
First we see him is in old Nehekara (Egypt), serving as a guardsman under Queen Neferata, the first vampire. (Harkon's actually part of Abhorash's cadre, but that's a long explaination and I'd have to talk about the history of the blood dragon vampire knights.) He suddenly vanishes without a trace for the next few thousand years and suddenly reappears in an excavated sarcophagus on a merchant ship being taken to the empire for study. Long story cut short, some dipshit wakes him up and he gets a little 'sucky' with the crew, taking the ship for himself and going off to raid and search for power in the one thing older than even the elves to Nehekaran knowledge: the lizard men.
So a tomb guard becomes a bit of a would-be tomb robber, looking for power. Unfortunately he runs headlong into an ancient trap and gets his brain scrambled, going completely mad with a fractured mind and multiple personalities. He then goes off with what's left of his sanity to try and find a way to fix himself.
So yes, your guess about a "curse" is actually quite on point!

  • @deathscar9910
    @deathscar9910 2 роки тому +18

"What's with the rat?" oh my friend, saying that in Warhammer Fantasy is probably a death sentence haha. Just because the Skaven are one of the most (or probably the most) dangerous enemies you can face in the fantasy world. And that's because you normaly can figure out what your enemies want, the orcs, the chaos, the dark elves, etc. They usually follow a pattern, but it's too hard to know what the Skaven really want, and surely by the time you find out it will be too late. They have an empire under the earth that no one knows its total size, but some believe that they practically occupy the entire underground world and their number is practically infinite, because no matter how many you kill of them, there will always be more. They are treacherous, cunning, carry plagues with them, mutations and have quite advanced weapons technology for how barbaric they seem to be. And trust me, they are no fools.
And on the vampire coast question, why are they so obsessed with treasure? well, they're not, at least not all of them. The one you see speaking is Luthor Harkon. a Vampire lord who wanted to enter a Lizardmen temple to plunder its treasures but it was protected by runes, a type of magic used by the Lizardmen. He wanted to force his way in using his own vampire magic, but everything went wrong, not only did he almost die, but his consciousness was divided into several personalities that take turns taking control of him, and not only that, but he also lost his Magic. That's why when he speaks he refers to "us" when in fact he is talking about himself. That's why he's obsessed with treasures, because he believes that in some temple, the Lizardmen have some secret cure to his condition, to get his magic back, and to put his mind back together once more.

So the Skaven are kind of like Tyranids in this 🤔 most dangerous because they just consume? Or are we they little more sophisticated than the Tyranids in 40k? 🙂

    • @deathscar9910
      @deathscar9910 2 роки тому +4

@@DefinitelyNotDefinitiveGames Not exactly, the Tyranids want to consume the galaxy and evolve, their main goal is just to eat everything hahaha. The Skaven want to conquer the world and in fact they are very capable of doing it, if only they would stop fighting each other haha. The Tyranids are a more savage race, more instinctive, even when they attack a world they usually conquer it by sheer force of numbers. On the other hand, the rats are quite intelligent, completely unpredictable, they will weaken an enemy as much as they can before attacking it, trying at all costs that the enemy does not see them coming. There are stories of entire armies of Skaven emerging from the earth amid towns and cities, completely destroying everything in a matter of hours and quickly disappearing before the empire can even react. They have filled entire territories with plagues, they have assassinated important characters that could be a threat to them, they have been allies of chaos like any other race that could give them a benefit at the time, of course betraying them once it was no longer beneficial to them. There are even Witch hunters who have said that no matter who you're up against, chaos, orcs, dark elves, etc there is surely a Skaven involved behind it all, waiting in the shadows for the right moment to strike.
A Fun Fact, during the End Times, the clan Skryre (One of the Skaven Clans) decided to destroy the Dark Moon, and they did, they literaly blow up giant pieces of the moon sending hundres of meteorites upon the Lizardmen. However, they killed the rest of the Skaven who were in the continent of Lustria in the process haha.

tomb kings are a personal fav of mine as well, love their aesthetic.
As for the vampire coast, they have by far the best trailer.
It gets even better when you understand the lore behind that Vampire pirate guy who was digging. He always says things like "The tales we could tell" and at first it makes you think hes talking about multiple people. But once you understand that he has tons of different personalitys all vying for dominance in his head, and suddenly his lines take on a bit of a different meaning. Guy messed with ancient Lizardman magical treasures and it fucked up his mind big time, and now hes just trying to find those trinkets again so he can put himself back together.

A bit more information for you guys, the base game comes with those 4 factions you saw, more were added with free content patches and paid dlc. The gist of the main game is to fight over that swirly vortex you see in the backgeound, some people want to stabalize it to prevent chaos from manifesting in the world and others want to destroy it.
You get 3 guesses to figure out what happens since Total Warhammer 3 shows so many demons.
Important info if you guys want to play, mutliplayer is fun BUT it removes most cutscenes and story elements from the game, so there is always the choice to tap out between yourselves and play in singleplayer. Otherwise the gameplay stays the same.
In multiplayer you both choose factions to play as, not always close to each other, you can quite literally be playing together but have your factions on the opposite sides of the map and be unable to interact. But during battles you can give soldiers to your ally to take control of so you can both participate.
Aside from the 4 main factions all the dlc ones have their own unique goals and mechanics, for example the pirate vampires want to collect all the lizard trinquets to do something.
As always i love your reactions and hope you guys have a nice day.

The Queen from the Queen & The Crone trailer, Alarielle the Radiant, is probably my favorite lord to play as. Lore-wise, she is similar to Galadriel in some ways, but different in others. She was one of the youngest, if not the youngest, elves ever to be crowned Everqueen, and she was crowned when the High Elves' island home was basically being burnt to the ground by Dark Elves. She helped rally the High Elven army to finally retake their homeland. Unlike the previous Everqueens who actively sought to avoid the battlefield, Alarielle instead views it as her duty to face the forces that threaten the balance of the world directly. As one of the two 'mortal' representatives of the Elven goddess Isha (the other being the quasi-immortal Wood Elven queen Ariel), Alarielle actively seeks to hunt down and destroy the servants of the Chaos gods, such as Crone Hellebron.

Thank you for looking at these trailers. One thing to consider is that the Everqueen Allarielle is not just a Galadriel, she is the living embodiment of the Elven Mother Goddess, Isha (Literally her Avatar). Her mere presence disrupts daemons and she is a direct descendant of the first Everqueen, and her body guard of the all female Handmaidens are one of the most deadly fighting forces in the world. It is said that her beauty is second to none and only the dark enchantments of the Dark Elf Queen, Morathi comes close (though her beauty is only sustained by bathing in the blood of the dead).

@@DefinitelyNotDefinitiveGames well in the first trailer yall watched the Elf Archmage is known as Teclis and is the most powerful mortal sorcerer in the world. He considers it his duty to defend the world while his twin Tyrion, the greatest general and melee combatant since his ancestor the first Phoenix King Aenarion, guards the High Elves (Asur) island of Ulthuan. Teclis is so farsighted that he taught humans how to wield magic, in fact every human mage you have seen in these cinematics was taught in 1 of 8 different colleges of magic that Teclis set up 200 years previously, his gift was so mighty that it was only the efforts of him and two of his compatriots that managed to match the gift of warriors, arms and armor the dwarves gave to humanity. He is now the leader of the greatest institution of learning the Asur have, the White Tower of Hoeth, a tower so tall it is said to match current day skyscrapers and enchanted that none can approach it if unworthy. Meanwhile Tyrion is guarding the lands and throwing back Norse and Dark Elf raiders, Warden Eltharion the Grim is defeating Goblins led by Grom the Paunch, Alith Anar is hunting Dark Elves and inflicting massive death and grave torments on his fallen kin in Naggoroth and Prince Imrik is gathering the Dragons of the World under his flag to defend the world and burn the Daemons filth away.
Facing these noble defenders of the world in the frozen hell of Naggoroth is the Witch King Malekith, the second son of Aenarion (the first was Morelion, suck it Malekith) and is fused to his armor after being found too corrupted by the Elven gods (no I don't consider Age of Simar's lore canon, as in that 'lore' the Elven gods did it as a joke), and his lover/mother Morathi I mentioned above. This humble UA-cam commenter does not see how they can ever stand against the true sons of Ulthuan (though I am completely and totally biased in this regard).

Great reaction. I've been looking forward to this. Yeah, you basically missed all DLCs (except for the Queen and the Crone). The best thing about this game is that it adds up to the previous one. So if you have WH1 you can play with Vampires in WH2 it's great. It basically made the world MUCH bigger. It is the biggest total war game world ever that will get even bigger with WH3. All races, factions, units, etc. you see in these trailers are in the game. These may be cinematic trailers but the game looks almost 90% identical to what you see in the videos. 9:53 The giant Skaven monster is called a Hell Pit Abomination, created Clan Moulder, one of the four Great Clans amongst the Skaven. They're the Dr. Frankensteins of Skaven society, and spend their time creating all manner of twisted monsters to serve in the Skaven armies, frequently by mutating existing creatures with warpstone or fusing them together with other beasts. In one of the Gotrek and Felix novels, Skavenslayer, they aid in the invasion of Nuln by making a horde of large, fast-breeding super-aggressive rats to devour every foodstuff in the city and leave the defenders too starving to fight back. The other main Skaven clans are Eshin (ninja rats), Pestilens (plague cultists who spend their time brewing and spreading horrifying diseases), and Skryre (who make warpstone-powered magitek devices, like the Warp Lightning Cannon and the Doomsphere).
12:04 Another layer to the "Blood for the Blood God" trailer that you might find interesting is that its two main characters, Tyrion of Ulthuan (the High Elf with the flaming sword who acts as the narrator) and Malekith the Witch King (the big scary Darth Vader-lookalike) are actually very distant cousins. They're both descended from Aenarion the Defender, first of the Phoenix Kings; Malekith is Aenarion's son with his second wife, Morathi (the black-haired woman in the Dark Elves trailer), while Tyrion and his twin brother Teclis (the mage in the cinematic trailer) can trace their ancestry back six thousand years to Aenarion's first marriage. It all comes down to blood indeed...

I see some comments here answering your questions, I'll quickly summarize some of them:
The last trailer you saw is for the base game of Warhammer 2 which only launched with 4 factions. Later down the line they launched more factions, such as the Tomb Kings and Vampire Coast. Additionally, they brought in a myriad of factions from Warhammer 1 in some form or another to be played as well through their "The and The " DLC packs, each pack introducing 2 new playable lords belonging to some faction or another. The Queen and the Crone for example is one such DLC that introduces a couple really powerful female leaders for the High Elf and Dark Elf factions respectively.
The vampire pirate is Luthor Harkon, once a treasure hunting vampire. He made the mistake of getting caught in one of the billions of traps the Lizardmen has put in their temples and as a result, he now carries the mother of all headaches. His mind fractured into a dozen different personalities, each vying for control over the body. Any normal mortal would've died from the strain but this guy is a vampire, and thus possess the secrets of immortality hence he's still up and at it. He believes that collecting enough Lizardmen artifacts will allow him to put his mind back together. That giant sea monster you wondered about is part of his in-game storyline. Harkon and the whole Vampire Coast is interesting because they are the only Warhammer faction that was invented by Creative Assembly, rather than Games Workshop who owns the Warhammer and 40k franchises.
The guy in black armor is called Malekith, ruler of the Dark Elves. He believes himself rightful ruler of ALL Elves, but his claim of being Phoenix King was rebuked and he was defeated long ago. He's been nursing a millenia old grudge against the High Elves and wants them all dead and gone so that Dark Elves are the only Elves. The woman besides him who eggs him on is his own mother, who fell from grace alongside her son and has an equal grudge against the High Elves because of it.
The "Rat Kings Army", well that claim is close to it. The rat lord in red armor is Queek Headtaker, probably one of the smartest Skaven. Skaven is the name of the ratmen and they are terrifying. Now, fun fact about Skaven society: If you stab your superior in the back, you take his position. As such, there is no loyalty among the ratmen and the strong survive while the weak perish. Skaven also have no concept of population control and will breed at cataclysmic levels always. This leads to millions of ratmen dying of starvation every couple years as there's too many mouths and too little food. On the plus side, they will eat ANYTHING including fallen enemies. The Skaven all answer to something called The Council of 13 and 13 is a number that shows up often in their culture. If you listen closely in their trailer, the bell tolls 13 times, this is in reference to one of the Skaven legends. Copying that is too much here, but its called "The Doom of Kavzar" if you wanna check it out.
Warhammer 3 is gonna be amazing and I'm greatly looking forward to seeing your reactions to the trailers and cinematics released for it! ^_^

Luthor Harkon, the leader you saw from the vampire coast trailer, was cursed by the lizardmen artifact you saw in the trailer. Well, not neccesarily cursed. The artifact ripped his mind, causing multiple personalities. It's why he says "first we were one, and now we are many", and "we will put ourselves back together again. In order to restore it, you need to find the pieces of the artifact and make it whole again.

    "What's the Great Purpose?"
The Great Purpose - or to use it's Normal name "The Great Plan" is the goal that the Old Ones set for the planet. More than 15.000 years before the time of hte game the planet the game takes place on had been colder and further away from the sun and it's dominant inhabitants had been Dragons and Dragon Ogres (the big 4 centaur like thing from a game 1 trailer).
Then the Old Ones arrived. They had decided that this planet - with it's large potential - would have a central place in their unknowable plans and so constructed stellar gates at both poles to allow easy travel to their new colony. Then they used their immense powers to shift the planet's orbit closer to the sun which caused ice to melt and lush forests to grow.
The Old Ones allied with the Dragons against the Dragon Ogres and nearly eradicated them - causing the Dragon Ogres to strike a fool's bargain with the Ruinous Powers. Then they created the custodians of the world - the Lizardmen.
The Old Ones created servants to tend to their needs. Thus was the first spawning of the Slann Mage-Priests begun. They were the grand viziers, trusted creatures of prodigious intellect, and the only beings able to withstand direct contact with the near-omnipotent Old Ones and comprehend their teachings. It was the Slann who were to guide the lesser races whose creation would soon follow. For upon the world, the Old Ones had encountered many primitive creatures, including those that would one day be transformed into the first Elves, Dwarfs and Men. Powerful and far-sighted, the Old Ones could shape new life forms even from these imperfect materials. They did encounter some creatures whose existence was incompatible with their future plans. As the climate warmed, the Saurus were created to destroy these anomalies and soon vast armies marched to war - a fight to eradicate those native races that needed to be removed. (And believe me. At least one of those was a real piece of work)
They also, when they noticed the coming of chaos, created the Ogres and Halflings, but they were unfinished, hence their enormous appetite etc. Basically, Elves, Dwarfs and Men excelled in some areas but had drawbacks at fighting chaos in others. Dwarfs were highly resilient, but at the same time slow to change and not magic inclined (outside their runes), while men are versatile and capable of learning magic, but not as great as that and (relatively) easy to corurpt and mutate.
They created the Slann (the toads) to their immense magical might to shape the planet. They created the Saurus as warriors and the Skinks (the little ones) as artisans etc. together with the Kroxigors as building workforce.
They also brought blind passengers to the planet. The Greenskins had hitched a ride on their ships. The Lizardmen were waging a campaign to eradicate them - which was going well - when catastrophe struck. The Polar Gates collapsed and Chaos entered the world. The Old Ones disappeared. But they left behind Sacred Plaques with prophecies and instructions that the Slann try to decipher to find out what they should do next.
    Long Story Short
The Great Plan is the original Plan that the Old Ones had for the Planet. Elves on Ulthuan. Humans in the "Old World". Dwarfs in the mountains. Chaos. Undead. Greenskins and Skaven? Erradicated. However not even teh Slann know the exact shape that the Great Plan had. Once there was an argument between the Slann about if the tectonic plates should be moved.
One of the Slann in the end went "I'm right! shut up!" and decided to just move htem (lead to him not being talked to for centuries). This caused the Times of Woe to the Dwarfs since the moving of the plates caused a Skaven Doomsday Device to blow up and shift the plates further than intended causing earthquakes etc. The Underway - the great subterran road system linking the dwarfen cities - collapsed and Skaven and Greenskins poured in.

Just a side note, it is hard to include the High Elves trailer because it is in 3D.
My favorite factions here are, vampire coast and Skaven.
The lore for this game is that a ritual to influence the vortex (the spring vortex in the sky) has been discovered. All factions are now attempting to influence the vortex and change how magic works for ever.
The vortex itself is like a siphon that pulls chaos out of the world. Since magic works using chaos, influencing the vortex is like influencing magic itself. The equivalent of finding a way to manipulate gravity on Earth.

The lizardmen faction actually created the warhammer world and engineered the races in it as part of a great plan of some kind. The Jabba the hut guys were the chief servants of the beings that created the Lizardmen and are actually supremely intelligent and powerful sorcerors, capable of moving continents.
At some point the warp gates above poles that they used to travel to and from this world collapsed. This allowed raw chaos to pour in. The masters of the lizardmen, the Old Ones (yes, the same old ones that fought the 40k necrons...in the beginning 40k and fantasy were linked) vanished, and the Lizardmen were left to deal with the chaos incursions on thier own. What resulted was a vast and apocalyptic war where armies numbering in the millions were sent to fight the endless ride of daemons pouring in.
It only ended when the High Elves created that vortex, siphoning the excess chaos energies and causing the daemons to vanish.

The Vampire Pirate featured in the campaign is called Luthor Harkon, and he got his mind split into many parts when he tried to loot a Lizardmen temple. He went nuts, and during the gameplay of his particular campaign, you are basically working to assemble the pieces so he can unify his mind. This plays into the playstyle, whith his stats changing as you play, to reflect his shifting personalities. He's only one of four playable special charactes (Legendary lords as they're called in Total War), the others being Cylostra Direfin who you saw a little featurette on, Count Noctilus who is trying to harness the powers of a massive maelstrom in the sea to power his spell to control all dead sea beings (yikes), and lastly Aranessa Saltspite, who is actually a living human pirate who was cast out of her human tribe for being mutated by Chaos. She seeks to gain the favor of her father(??) the god of storms, who has given her control over the drowned dead, ie. undead pirates. Also, they're all searching for an artifact to control the largest sea-serpent in the world, who you briefly saw the back of in the vampire pirate trailer.

He had a fierce personality, but was often called upon for protection from the dangers of the Nile.

As you guessed, that last trailer is the first one, and doesn't include the DLCs, and the Might Empires patch let you combine Total War: Warhammer 1 and 2's campaign world, letting you play accross both continents with all the armies. It's been slowly expanded and added onto as new DLC/FreeLC has been released.
So... Lore essays, if you're interested!
    Lizardmen.
The Lizardmen are sorta kinda biological dinosaur-man robots. Let me explain that.
The Warhammer World was created and shaped by a vanished race called The Old Ones. It's implied they created earth, too, as they apparently like this sort of shape of continents. They travelled between worlds using magitech gateways at the poles, and it was the collapse of these gateways that unleashed daemons, caused the Beastmen and Skaven to be mutated into existance as the waves of Chaos magic flowed into the world, created the Chaos Wastes, north of Norsca, and basically ruined everything. They left their servants behind, several races of cold-blooded, highly ordered beings, born from spawning pools in the warm places of the world, each designed for their tasks, the Saurus Warriors who defended the magitech ziggurats and huge devices, the quick and clever Skinks who and the magical, but lazy far-seeing Slaan, the froggy mage-priests - Lizardman Jabba as you said. The Lizardmen are utterly devoted to the Old One's great plan, even if they're not sure exactly what it leads to, and are essentially the personification of Order in the Warhammer World. The Lizardmen build in stone and gold, as the various races have rediscovered Lustria (Warhammer's South America) they've also found mysterious cities, covered in gold and grabbed as much as they could before being slaughtered for *no reason* by the lizardmen who live in the cities and jungles. The Skaven, ratmen, in particular have set up camp in Lustria, their plague-cults corrupting and killing the Lizardmen in huge numbers.
The Elves... well take the Tolkein elves, add a dash of Elric of Melniboné. Add a dash of British upperclass pretentiousness and selfishness, and you have the High Elves. After their King was killed by the Dwarves in the great war that shattered both empires (the War of Vengeance, aka The War of The Beard), the Crown Prince, Malekith was rather unpopular, thanks to his conniving and corrupt mother, the sorceress Morathi. The exact details of how are unclear, but Malekith failed his initiation as Pheonix King - walking through a magical fire unharmed - and was horribly burned. Morathi claimed the fire had been sabotaged, and the civil war ended up devastating Ulthuan, the Elves' homeland. The northern provinces that supported Malekith eventually ended up having to turn their cities into giant stone ships and sailing north along with their horrible burned King and Morathi. Morathi made her son a suit of magical Darth Vader style armour that fused to his burned body and stops him dying of infection, but he is still in great pain, which has made him cruel, twisted an bitter. The High and Dark elves have warred on ever since. The High Elves in general are melancholy people, and have generally retired to their estates to wait for the end of the world, but those who have not are amongst the greatest champions of life and sanity. The High Elf mage Teclis broke his own people's laws to teach magic to the fledgeling Human empire, and has kept in close contact since then, with an Elven embassy in Altdorf, the Empire's capital and strong trade links to Brettonia and the Empire. Teclis' twin brother, Tyrion, is perhaps the greatest general and swordsman alive - he is the main elf fighting Malekith in the Blood for the Blood God trailer. Elven sailors are said to be the best in the world, and the High Elf navy is the main defense the south has agains the Norscan longships, and it is the menhirs and the Maelstrom, the great magically created storm, that draws away and drains the magic that has leaked into the world since fall of the Old Ones that stops Chaos from consuming the Old World.
Skaven... Skaven are probably a stable variant of beastmen, and they represent the excesses of capitalism and human nature. Skaven do not have a word for cowardice, instead using the term "prudent Skaven caution" and consider outnumbering their enemies four to one as a heroic endeavour. Skaven are cowardly, first and foremost, callous, treacherous, paranoid and conniving. That said, they are fast, dextrous, intelligent and inquisitive. Small and generally physically weak, Skaven are the most numerous of all the races in Warhammer, and live in hidden burrows deep underground, gathering in stinking Under-cities where they breed massive swarming populations, the majority of which will be enslaved by their stronger more aggressive brethren. Skaven practice powerful magic, engineering, monster husbandry and all manner of war-craft, but all of them incredibly dangerous. If everything goes right for a Skaven force they are unstoppable, but their wizards have a tendancy to overdose on their magic and explode, their magically overcharged weaponry has a tendency to miss, or explode and their powerful, angry monsters have a tendancy to panic, rampage or explode. Skaven's natural instinct to betray each other makes them excellent politicians, and they often employ human agents, and it's a rare great city that doesn't have Skaven lurking in it's sewers. Skaven regard themselves as the master race, and see it as their duty to conquor the world in the name of their Chaos God, The Great Horned Rat, his priests, the Grey Seers, and the clan council, the Council of Thirteen. Skaven are hilarious, powerful and unpredictable. In the game, they get bonuses to their population happiness if they break treaties and betray allies, they are the fastest moving race, but only when running away, and will absolutely break, flee and come back two or three times in a battle.
The Tomb Kings are the slain remnants of Warhammer's Egyptians, the Nehekarans, and are heavily inspired by The Mummy, Indiana Jones, HP Lovecraft and other pulp adventures. One the mightiest human civilisation the world, Nehekara was annihilated by it's own greatest son, the inventor of Necromancy, Vampires and Ghouls, the most hated person ever to have lived, Nagash. After being chased out of his home Khemri for stealing the throne, raising the dead and generally being a horrible, horrible man, Nagash turned his power on his own people, poisoning their great river, withering their crops and killing and raising their people as the Undead. Assassinated in the moment of his triumph (he's returned though, twice) Nagash lost control of his new nation of Undead, and they found themselves mummified and very much not in the promised land, which has left them pretty annoyed. They have essentially recreated their old feudal civilisation, but with no crops to till, no animals to feed and no families to raise, they spend most of their time under the sands or in their tombs, resting, and cursing the name Nagash. The Tomb Kings, once you get past the whole Undead thing are actually not too bad as far as the races go. They're jealous of their tomb treasures and lands, but if treated with respect and courtesy are usually pretty reasonable, and joined the living in the defense of the world when the Entimes came.
The Vampire Coast are why warhammer fans love this game. In 2005, Games Workshop, the company that make Warhammer, launched a worldwide Warhammer (the miniature soldiers) campaign set in Lustria, Warhammer's South America with narrative stories and cool variant armies that never had any models, but offered opportunities for radically different styles of play. Essentially only comprising of a couple of pages of A4 rules, CA have taken this small piece of Warhammer Lore and absolutely gone to town on it, creating this characterful, funny, cool piece of the Warhammer world. Obviously, the Transylvanian-style Vampire Counts didn't have a presence in Lustria, but the maps had a lot of random place names that they'd never really expanded on to kickstart players imaginations. One such was the Vampire Coast.
Clearly inspired by Pirates of the Carribean, the Vampire Coast were the servants of Luther Harkon, a vampire whose coffin had been stolen by pirates. He made short work of them, and resurrected them as his zombie servants, but found himself shipwrecked on Lustria's coast. Finding small settlements of pirates, Norscans and other adventurous types, Harkon quickly swelled his forces and became quite a power, until he ran afoul of some cursed Lizardman artefacts which sucked out all his magical power and left him with a fractured mind and multiple personalities. The campaign goal is to gather Lizardman artifacts in the hope that this will somehow restore Luthor's mind - to "put ourselves back together" as the trailer says.

The first 4 in this game were high elves, dark elves, lizardmen, and skaven which are the rats. The other factions were added later, and if you own warhammer 1 all of those factions are added into the mortal empires campaign. Also missing alot of dlcs that were released later. My favorite faction is the vampire coast but i love them all they are all so different. Book of choyer is the channel to go to for lore. The prophet and warlock, shadow and the blade, the hunter and the beast, the warden and the paunch, the twisted and the twilight and the sikence and the fury are all paid dlc you didnt see and then there are character free-lcs as well the last new dlc released in nov or dec cant remember which CA was awesome about keeping new stuff coming

Everyone else has already pointed out the ones you've missed, I hope you get to looking at those and putting them up soon - they just get better and better with time. Also, for the rat people trailer, making them hard to see was 100% intentional. They're called skaven, and many people in the Warhammer world aren't aware they exist, or don't believe they exist when they're told that they do. There are SEVERAL reasons for this, but it mainly boils down to the rat people being very happy with letting the majority of the surface world be ignorant of their presence, and taking several precautions to ensure that remains the case.
There was even an event only a few dozen years ago in which one of the most important Imperial towns was besieged and almost taken by the skaven, and now almost everyone believes that it wasn't technologically-advanced rat-people, but instead primitive beastmen.

Luthor Harkon had his personality split in multiple fragments through a lizardmen curse. Untill he got all the pieces of the treasure he stole that day(same idea of the Pirates of the Caribean movie) he doesn't know what his personality will be the next moment of the day. An utter lunatic that will want to kill you and then try to apoligize the next moment for inconviniencing you.
That is why he is trying to find the treasure. Find it and put it back and hopefully be fully himself.
Vampire Coast pirates are an utter meme army.

10:05 the Mortal Empires merged TW Warhammer 2 and 1. Both are set on different continents and had different playable races, after this you could play as a race from 1st, travel across the world and ocean to the land of 2nd and fight against new races and vice versa
