  • The Mormon missionaries, who come to Hong Kong, go to great lengths to integrate with the community, hoping to build relationships through religious-based activities. Missionaries are also expected to attain proficiency in Cantonese. SCMP joined two members of the church on one of their days out preaching to the people of Hong Kong.

    Amazing what these young men do day in and day out. Even if you don't believe in our faith, you have to admit it's pretty amazing that they are able to learn Cantonese and have such a sincere desire to help those around them.
    Those that are leaving negative comments: How would you do if you were dropped off in the streets of Hong Kong at the age of 19?

    His Cantonese is incredibly well, he is so talented I am so moved about how much effort he made to learn Cantonese for spreading his faith. I am atheist but I will be interested to hear him preach

    When on their missions, do Mormon missionaries teach people that Joseph Smith dictated the Book of Mormon by looking at a stolen rock in his hat and that he didn't even use the 'gold plates"? Do they teach them that his 'translation' of the Egyptian funerary scrolls are the laughingstock of non-Mormon Egyptian scholars and don't even mention Abraham anywhere on those scrolls? Do they teach their investigators that Joseph Smith had 34 'wives', several in their teens, and that a number of them were already married women? That those 'marriages' were not legal yet still gave him conjugal rights with those women, but didn't give them ANY legal claim on him? That he deceived his legal wife Emma countless times, as well as deceiving his people and the world regarding his practice of polygamy and polyandry? Are THEY even aware of those things?

    • @ndetavy2706
      @ndetavy2706 4 роки тому +13

      deskjockie49 the language that the book of mormon was written in was unknown, it is only described as ancient egyptian as that is what it looked like to joseph smith (who only had a third grade education and had likely never seen true ancient egyptian symbols before). you also must keep in mind that what was deemed as appropriate back then in terms of marriage is much different from what is okay now. polygamy was fairly normal back then unfortunately. joseph smith is neither idolized as the ideal standard of living within the church, he is seen as human and flawed, just like everyone else. the church also distances themselves from active churches who deem themselves as "LDS" that practice polygamy. it is also taught to a great extent in the church to have a healthy monoamourous relationship with your spouse. hope this helped as there is a lot of misinformation out there :)

    • @bcg3166
      @bcg3166 Рік тому +1

      Polygamy is in the King James Bible. Care to see, those verses!?! Besides, the bible mentions Book Of Mormon. In ISAIAH chapter 29.

    Holy man open up your eyes
    To the ways of the world you've been so blind
    As the walls of religion come crashing down
    How's the ignorance taste the second time around
    Tell me how it feels knowing chaos will never end
    Tell me what it's like when the celebration begins
    Welcome to the horror of the revelation
    Tell me what you think of your savior now
    I reject all the biblical views of the truth
    Dismiss it as the folklore of the times
    I won't be force-fed prophecies
    From a book of untruths for the weakest mind
    I keep the bible in a pool of blood
    So that none of its lies can affect me

    If missionaries are going to away from home for two years and they have to pay for everything out of their own pocket and have to follow very strict unnecessary rules. Then the church could at least let missionaries decide for themselves where they want to serve their mission
