I did not know "Control large army" affected the enemy as well.. *facepalm* so i learned a lot here, since i have lost a lot of sieges just by being overwhelmed
If you're the one that being overwhelm then it is a better idea to not let the enemy bring a second army with it. AI tends to swarm you with another army if they can and without "Control Large Army" it will force them to run to you in the field instead of sitting back and waiting for the reinforcement to come then going at you. You have easier time camping at the edge of your map this way since new unit from their reinforcement gotta run across the entire field to get to you and they'll tried themselves out.

My SYDB just want to say thanks for all the help. I tried it again after I sent it in and received the same type of result. sorry, it wasn't too challenging. Tried it once by not defending the walls before sending it in because I forgot the power of the walls. First mildly difficult battle in the entire campaign on legendary thanks to all I learnt from Legend.
this reminds me of my first legendary campaign in warhammer 1. I was playing as dorfs and the northernmost dwarf city (the one next to ostmark) was attacked by 7 or 8 full stack chaos/norsca armies. I destroyed all the siege towers and rams except 1 and the AI just conga lined into that 1 tower onto the wall which was defended on 1 side by iron breakers and I put thunderers/quarallers on the other side shooting nearly point blank till they ran out of ammo then got swapped out with a different unit.
Some of these moments remind me why I don't play on legendary battle difficulty. Stormvermin with halberds losing against empire swordsmen and plague monk censer bearers "winning slightly" against handgunners. Great job with the siege. Those towers really paid their dues this battle!
The AI bullshit is why I mostly play normal. Legendary is basically just trying to out-cheat the cheating AI, lol. Also, I think the Ratlings weren't firing at will because they were trying to shoot the guys on top of the wall, but had LoS.
Sometimes the reason why your ratling guns weren't shooting was because you had Guard mode on. Guard mode stops them from pursuing or continuing to fire on retreating, routing, or shattered units.
The ratling guns are not firing on any routing unit because you have them on the... "hold" stance (can't remember if that's the actual name). It prevents your troops from pursuing routing units and also missile troops from wasting ammo on them
Skaven was fun, had most of Lustria under control then Chaos came and the Puppets decided to invade the ruins they saw equadistance to the order kingdoms to the east for no reason other than the AI is BS.
The save game owner could have just *not* sent the game to legend, and champions of justice would have prevailed, eradicating the disgusting ratling plague from the land.

I had a battle on multiplayer that I thought if I could is should send it, but somehow me and my friend cheesed it, it was skarsnik attacking karak Izor with his goblin restrictions, and unchecking the control large army is a great strat I've been using more in my greenskin campaign to deal with enormous battles
You didn't explain why you didn't put Ratling Guns on the gates. It seems, like they wouldn't be in too much danger and would just melt everything that comes close.
Legend, I think the reason your Ratling Guns weren't firing occasionally was that there's a small hill just inside of the East gate on that settlement type. Yeah, it's pretty bullshit but it is what it is.
Why did you elect to keep the doom flayers inside the walls the whole time? I understand that maybe you don’t want to suicide them, but by the time the reinforcements arrived the doomflayers coulda shredded isolated infantry outside the walls.

Yeah Legend you're right about controlling a less bigger army. I discovered it's uses when I got overwhelmed as the high elves by dark elves armies with their black arcks astonishing support and since it has been revealed as a powerful tool now everytime I feel struggling at some point I do it and makes my life easier in the battles. i noticed my skaven units not firing at will as well since the update. i had a bunch of warp fire throwers just standing around as the enemy slowly approached.
Ai swordsmen are broken the ai values them as rediculously strong I've use a basic lord and full sword man stack army against an army of all phoenix guard and apparently the atuo resolve said it was about 75% in sowrdsmans favour
i know that when i get a battle where the odds look like this i lose hope, i dont really feel like trying to defend against what looks like hopeless odds so i get just sending it to you, but like, at least try it before you ask for help ;/
More than 3000 hours in this game, still had no clue you could spread your unit into a spaghetti line on the walls. Why does CA obscure so fucking much of the controls!?
problem with skaven elites is they dont have that great stats for an elite unit, pretty much just up armoured clanrats with better leadership, kinda has to be to balance out skavens incredible firepower with weapons teams and arty though.
It also never helps that on legendary most melee units are nothing more than meat walls , you can't compete when the AI get massive stat boosts and unit experience

Tbh I dont know how this is a disaster battle, I'm decent not as good as legend but when I saw this battle at the beginning I too thought the same to deny reinforcements and the fact that they had mostly hand gunners which have a poor los shooting at wall and with skaven towers, doomrocket, and warpbomb I thought this battle should be relativity easy

I think only the Lizardmen rival in strength with tower damages when it's a Tier 5 settlement. Because when I went up against Mazmudondi aka fat toad, his towers started to wreck my units pretty quickly and I had to destroy the towers as quickly as I could.

I added a "weapons team on walls" mod for my skaven play, ratling and jezzails raining doom down was delicious

i reckon i learned a lot of tips here. i always figured the garrison would be deployed like an ai ally not kept in reserve.

Had a battle just like this yesterday. But they had greatswords and not swordsmen . But was still crazy easy. Played it just like this.

Is it just me or does the enemy AI NEVER attack your settlements except when you are extremely outmatched?
They very rarely go for walled major settlements, in any case. Always for the minor ones though, where towers are much weaker and not upgradeable.

its a clan skryre ability in the forbidden workshop. no other skaven faction can do it and its only for ratling guns
The first upgrade you can get for Ratling Guns allows them to regenerate ammo when they use up 80% of it.
