They would be much MUCH better if they simply had a HQ choice to join them. 10th is all about characters joining units and they are one of the ONLY units with no HQ. I actually kind of love the chunky boys, especially after converting some.

I kinda disagree. On the contrary, Their strength lies in the fact that you don’t need to support them with a character, and you want this in 10th because you don’t want to support all of your squads. Their issue is not the absence of leaders it’s their defensive profile and their maneuverability

Imma call it out here. In deathwatch, you can take a full 12 in the corvus blackstar. Its transport rule states astartes infantry. Only limit is termy, jumppack, and bikers count as 2 models. Other transports like landraider specify how many models a centurion counts as(3 i beleive). So as written, since it doesnt specify centurions counting as anything other than just normal infantry, you get the full bay of 12. And im gonna play it as such since deathwatch lost leaders for veteran killteams and when i asked gw they just told me to rtfc. So im playing it as written.

  • @TrippyGame
    @TrippyGame 9 місяців тому +11

I reckon their grav cannons should be AP -2 so they can be properly anti-vehicle effective, other than that I'm still holding out hope for a character centurion of some kind to go in iron hands. These are like the perfect thematic iron hands infantry to me because they basically become the tanks! That and I'm a sucker for super heavy powered suits like iron monger from the first iron man movie, or the mk 1 iron man armour.
Even if there's never rules for it I'm absolutely making a truescale one as a chapter master model of myself, maybe convert up a nemesis dreadknight to go with it

@@HighlandPhoenix They don't need it. They are already anti-vehicle 2+ and vs other targets their only advantage over heavy bolters is wounding T3 on 2s and T10 on 5s which is sort of a non-issue anyways because there's very little that is T10 or above that isn't a vehicle anyways and those that are tend to be better targets for lascannons anyways.

Great video! Absolutely love these models and will be taking one of each in my imp fists army. I think the flexibility of the dev centurions is often missed - if you were to add an extra column of damage weighting vs termagaunts or Orks then the missile launchers come into their own. Handy for smaller games where you don’t know if you’re facing a horde or mechanised.

I miss being able to attach an apothecary to a Devastator squad like in 9th, forcing the enemy to commit large amounts of fire when they're dug into cover with armour of contempt, sometimes surviving and getting back a nice bundle of points back every command phase. They were never the best unit on the field, but it felt like they were really good at plugging holes for armies that needed a tough and hard-hitting midline.

Great in Gladius, Great in Anvil, Great in firestorm and great in Vanguard. I use 3 or 6 assault variants in my armies and love them. Lack of invuln hasn`t been an issue because the combo of T7 and 2+sv is awesome with 4 wounds. If anyone spend their super-anti tank guns on my centurions then they aren`t using them om my Land raider, Lancer or Thunderstrike which is a win. I just love these guys. I march them up the middle screening for my hellblasters and they arent leaving that objective unless my opponent really commits to it

Basically always a shot getting through and sometimes you get 3 of them absolutely wrecking enemy tanks. I love them with Vanguard, able to redeploy them to their desired location and then giving +1 to hit and +1 AP. I play against a lot of ironstorm and they have been wrecking enemy armor like crazy. The main thing I love about them is consistnecy basically with full rerolls every time.

The Lancer is the clear anti-tank standout on paper, but it's very "fair" 40k. You're rolling your big tank out and asking your opponent for permission to line up a shot against their big armor. Dev Cents are more or less inferior to the Lancer in every way, except when you can use Deep Strike and Vanguard Spearhead to zip them around the board and create the firing lanes that you need rather than asking for permission.

  • @Stonehorn

I love assault centurions. I take six with me when I play my friends custodes, or a tank heavy list. They wreak havoc against Guard tank lists. Not a great tournament unit, but I like them a lot.
It’s nice to get to use them effectively. I almost never got to do damage with them in 9th until the very end of the edition. I have six of each variant, and they are among my favourite models in the space marine line.
I might use some in my game today. My friend wants to play a game with my Tyranids, and I was originally going to play my World Eaters, but I might actually build a flamer heavy Firestorm Assault Force, as I haven’t gotten to use that detachment yet. Infernus marines, Redemptors, Devastators, Repilsor Executioner, and a Land Raider, and whatever else I can stuff in. My friend is playing horde tyranids (the way they should be played), so flamers should be effective.

I personally love these lil guys. I cram them into every Marine list I make, and the Devastator variant has almost always paid for itself long before it gets killed off. Assault squad seems very mid since the Hurricane Bolters got minced down into "Centurion Bolters" with half the number of attacks and the Grenade Launchers are literally just the Grenade keyword (which automatically invalidates them as a wargear selection in my eyes, as I've got way more important things to spend Command Points on). Triple Lascannons work exceptionally well with Ironstorm, especially if you're properly utilizing their passive reroll ability as well

I don't really understand Grav-cannons. Like, okay, they are anti-vehicle, but their AP is so low I can't think of any vehicle besides maybe Ork that are truly 'at risk' by them, short of running around in Devastator doctrine in a Gladius with that strat and/or that specific Storm Speeder combination that gives another AP. It would thereotically be an excellent weapon against other Space Marine players with something tough like Land Raiders or I dunno, Knights too I suppose.
Libby Dreadnoughts and Assault Centurions are pretty beastly, especially in the Firestorm detachment when the flamers get Devastating Wounds (and become poor man heavy flamers too). It's kinda funny that we become basically like that old Raven Guard army trick from a previous edition.

You know, I often post long complicated lists of changes for what a model might need, in my deeply inexpert opinion. But these? Small price drop. At most. ~15 points per wound is a big ask. ~13-14 not so much. Knock 10-15 (Dev) and 5-10 (Assault) off the cost per 3 and they'll show up quite a bit more, even without leaders.

Even if they are good now, if I were to buy them now, it would take me years to build and paint them up. By that time they won't be good anymore. So I just tend to go with rule of cool.
I just finished up a squad of Attack Bikes right before they got cut in the new Codex. 😅

are the las really better than grav cannons? Should be an average of 6 wounds on any vehicle normally giving a 3-4+ save with 3 damage each. Also the two detachments that give assault to them are probably the only way to play it unless ya put them in reserves or a transport.
