I bought the previous model YDP-S34 a few months ago. As an absolute beginner I didn't have the confidence to immediately spend a lot of money on my new hobby, but I still wanted something that was decent and looked nice in my living room. I had the option to wait for the S35, but the differences didn't seem that big so I chose to get a piano sooner. I find it curious that no review mentions how this compares to the S34. Maybe there just isn't that much of a difference? Listening to the playing in this video it does sound more or less the same as what I get from the S34. I know that these entry level Yamahas get dinged by reviewers for using older samples and the basic GHS key action, which are also on this new S35 model, but honestly as a beginning piano player this feels like it has all I need, nice feeling keys and nice sounding music. The only real downside that reviews of the S34 warned about is that the 2x8W speaker system doesn't have the punch to do the CFX samples justice, and I found this to be true. This is a piano mostly for headphones playing, and someone looking to play through speakers should look at the S55. I imagine that if I keep up this hobby the even better sound and key action will eventually drive me towards the Clavinova line, but for now I'm happy with my S34. A tip for people wanting an affordable pair of headphones to couple with this piano: the Shure SRH440. I tried Yamaha's own headphones, but they just aren't very good so I had to return them. The Shure cost the same but are far better.
Hi, Ted and Pat, I have a proposal of comparationt to you, to help us to select the correct piano for us. Maybe you could compare Kawai KDP-120 vs CN-201 or Yamaha YDP-165 vs CLP-725 or Roland RP-107 vs Roland RP-701. I would prefer Yamaha comparation, but I am really gratefully to your effort. Thanks so much. Eduardo.
Would you please show us what the pianos you are playing look like, do they close flat, size, aesthetics, colors available, matching stool, etc. love hearing them played but trying to decide how they fit in home decor is also important. Thanks.
Звучит подозрительно, когда первый аргумент за, это использование пианино, в качестве письменного стола. Как плохие машины, завлекают лишь косметическим удобством, в угоду ходовым и дорожным качествам.
I just began a foray into the world of keyboards but have played guitar forever, and the arranger functionality is something that I’ve determined is a must have. However, I don’t want to buy something and feel I’m getting shortchanged. I get that impression from almost every keyboard product available. I just want a combined P515 with PSRSX900.
There's nothing new about this design. The YDP-S35 is similar in format to the YDP-S51 that came out a decade ago. This is the cheaper version of the YDP-S54 and is close in specs to the YDP-145. It's just a slimmer cabinet but pretty much everything else is the same.

It does NOT have the GH3 action. It is the GHS.
What's funny about the price: 1199. Here in Germany, the higher model S55 is exactly: 1199.
thans a lot

How does this compare to the DGX-670? With stand and 3-pedal unit they are basically the same price.

DGX-670 is a gem of a keyboard.
Why's this so mono here?
