Perfection in simplicity. Hope was and is almost angelic in her presence. A true beauty without embellishments.
They were brilliant.
I can remember when I heard this song for the first time. I was fully immersed in the grunge scene at the time and when I heard it for the first time it was so mellow, beautiful and haunting, and I was just mesmerized by it.
she had that patented 90s "it hurts to be up here on stage" persona- the female equivalent of eddie veder (both great singers btw...)
this brings back memories of Sunday mornings with the wife and kids, listening tunes, drinking tea and reading the paper. Some of the best times of my life.
She stole my heart with this song . So sensual and silky smooth .
The mood she sets for the song is so good. Its such a sad song, but I enjoy it a lot.
I was at this show and this moment was an absolute highlight. Haunting, beautiful, inspiring.
She suffered from paralyzing stage fright. Was so beautiful and shy it added to the performance. You should listen to The Sundays also a band from that era who had an amazing female vocalist.
I feel her stage fright made her vocals so unique, love her!!

I had a band in my early 20s and I can totally relate to that. I was the lead singer and remember having to drink so much alcohol before being able to perform on stage. Maybe it's a blessing we never went anywhere, because I could've easily destroyed myself.
Hope Sandoval is from Maravilla, a very rough neighborhood in Los Angeles. She's like a paradox with the voice of an angel
She should have drank 12 red bulls and popped a bunch of Adderall.
just counting and ive been listening to this song nearly 30years ! thats crazy..but im still not bored of it.
It’s such a beautiful song. I love her vocals. Great reaction Verdy thank you
I've not heard this singer before and really enjoyed her voice also. The song was beautiful in its simplicity. Nice reaction!
2:33 the unmistakable look of someone's first time seeing Hope sing that line, it hits hard.
"The Bridge School Benefit was an annual charity concert usually held in Mountain View, California, every October at the Shoreline Amphitheatre from 1986 until 2016 with the exception of 1987. The concerts lasted the entire weekend and were organized by musicians Neil Young and Pegi Young. An annual Bay Area highlight, the concerts were billed online as the primary means of funding for The Bridge School; over both days, the reserved seats alone brought in well over a million dollars every year.
Partial proceeds benefited the Bridge School, which assists children with severe physical impairments and complex communication needs.[1] One of the thrusts of the program is the use of advanced augmentative and alternative communication and assistive technology."
Really interesting story behind this concert. As someone who has a handicapped brother myself, mazzy gained huge respect from me for doing this.
Iconic MUST Hear Group & Classic Songs,, The Stranglers "Golden Brown",, "Skin Deep",, "Strange Little Girl",, "Walk On By" & "Always The Sun"
To me, who was a MTV junkie, and they would actually play this back then cuz MTV was incredible, i much prefer this over the studio version.
Mazzy levitated this fine day.
Hi Verdy!!! Yes, a beautiful song and her stage persona matches the song perfectly.
The instrument was a tambourine
Hope Sandoval was actually the second singer the band had--they were originally called Opal with lead singer Kendra Smith, who had her own mysterious quality.
It was a beautiful time. Lots of tears 😭,lots of joy and love.😎
This is actually the acoustic version. You need to listen to the original track. It has what is known as one of the most iconic slide guitar sounds in music history throughout the song. It gives it an even more haunting feel.
This acoustic version is really good, but when people think of this song, it's the original track they talk about.
I'm sure someone has said it already... Hope Sandoval is freakishly shy, but in a very sweet and endearing way. A lot of us had a crush on her back in the day. 😄 Check her interviews to see how shy she was, and I assume still is.
The slide, the slide, gotta have that slide. Great album.
As I recall, her vocals are a slight bit better on the recording vs. this live performance.
This song is like nostalgia smashing you over the head. Happiness and sadness. Thanks for listening to it.
Like all of Hope Sandoval's music, this is hypnotic and compelling. I love this song. Check her out in "Hope Sandoval and the Warm Inventions."
I LOVE this song!!! Great reaction!
A MUST HEAR,, Tanita Tikaram "Twist In My Sobriety"
This is Hope Sandoval…..one of the best singers of the 90’s. You should looking into and 90’s female lead band called the Sundays. song is called “here’s where the story ends”. Fantastic song.
Everyone I've ever known that heard Hope Sandoval sing, fell in love. Really great audio with the following search. Mazzy Star - live 1993 - Black Session,Paris, full set,13 songs, radio studio (audio) Enjoy!
Enjoyed the live stuff today. I'm a big fan of live music. Have a great week!
I had a bit of a crush on the singer back when this came out.
Yeah you and everybody else.
I still do...
Yep!!
You’re in a very long line.
Such an iconic song.
Hope Sandoval is known for having a very shy personna. The shaking instrument was a tambourine.
Imo one of the best songs ever performed, I own their 3 LPs but this one incorporates so many sweet and dark elements, and the way she drags the lyrics mesmerises me. Thanks for your reaction on this gem.
I would suggest for reaction Ok One Rock "We Are" or "Take What You Want And Go" both Live from Tokyo Dome. 👍👍
I've only owned one Mazzy Star album, the one with this song. But I've played in a million times.
Finally✌️🇷🇴
Magic !!!
Just want to hug her and tell her it will be alright. Always the same feeling.
Banger!
love this song
Hope's voice ❤
The guy standing next to her on the base wrote this song. This one hits hard
Iconic song!
Nobody can not love this song
Somewhere they used this as the backing to the Austen adaptation "Sanditon" which it fits plendidly.
Not sure how well known is the Hope Sandoval song "Suddenly beside you" (also on utube) ...but it deserves more recognition!
It's called a tambourine. Instrument at the end.
Not quite the same as just acoustic but still great. Not sure why but this song chokes me up whenever I hear it. Can't think of another song that does that to me.
Happy Sunday Verdy and great job with your reaction and thoughts on Fade Into You live performance from Mazzy Star.
Hope Sandoval is the singers name and she has always been painfully shy on stage. You should listen to the original in your spare time, just to compare. It's a little different in that there are other instruments used.
I like the original much better than this.
@@Wordsmyth8 Me too!
It's desperately missing the slide guitar part. That adds alot to the moodiness. I found this to actually be quite disappointing.
I had a temporary infatuation with Mazzy when this released. I can't recommend strongly enough that anyone who loves great singing and chill vibes who hasn't heard of Zero 7 with Sia, Tina Dico, Jose Gonzalez and Sophie Barker to name a few circa 2001 Simple Things album should change their lives and do so ASAP ❤ songs like Home, Destiny and Crosses will amaze and sooth I promise!
Just tried it & can I have those few seconds of my life back please
The shaker instrument is a tambourine.
Unfortunately the guitarist David Roback passed away a few years ago...He wrote this song with the singer Hope Sandoval...R.I.P. David...
She calms me
Look on down from the bridge is a great tune
Anyone seeing this for the first time, I think it's strange you never knew.
I'm digging your reactions. Good stuff! I see you're doing a lot of live reactions, If I may be so bold as to recommend a fantastic live version of a song: U2 "One" Zoo TV live Sydney 1993 (with "Unchained Melody" at the end).
they were much simpler times 🙂
Must watch them do "Flowers in December". Please seek out the live in studio version from the show Meter 2. I promise it will be worthwhile.
I love it. From years. How did you find her?😮
And try Hope Sandoval with Massive Attack.
It’s hard to tell with the sunglasses but is that Tina Weymouth on bass?
Such a forgotten artist.
I haven't forgotten
sounds cool but sounds like Neil Young "Helpless" still very cool. We all borrow.
This is a great song. A bit depressing but great nonetheless.
High time for you to review a more contemporary Aurora tune - I would try the live Vevo Studio performance of "Exhale Inhale".
Dragging the words Like she is fading into…
it's a type of tamborine, but not the blue one:)
The Shaker is called a tambourine come on girlfriend
Shaky thing is a tambourine 😉
Miley Cyrus does a nice cover of this song from the NPR Tiny Desk Home concert. Maybe you can react to it also?
This one hits hard love,🍸👍💪
They have more amazing music highly recommend
If you're ever driving up in the mountains late at night (especially with a full moon) you need to play this song. It all synchs up.
Cranberries-Zombie plz...
Shaker = tambourine
The original version is better to do a reaction too but still great job
It’s not the same without the slide guitar
Shes haunting and beautiful
and your reaction is???
To be 13 again when this was released, 90's music was so awesome. Except ace of base, they didn't see the sign of how much they sucked...
The Shaker thing is called a tambourine. And she's so "calm" because heroin is a hell of a drug LoL!😂👍
Off topic, So tired of people saying something "hits hard/different". SMH
She has a great voice, but that performance is so low energy.
this isn't a very good version of this song- the slide is what puts this song over the top
You reading the title of the video proves how stupid English is. There are rules except when where aren’t. Which is like whenever. No rules to when there are no rules. (No hate)
Nice song, but nothing special. Rachael, i sincerely want you to listen to a song that will probably bring you to tears. I am Australian by the Seekers. It will introduce you to the greatest ever female singer, Judith Durham. Cannot say enough how much you will love the song!
Perfection in simplicity. Hope was and is almost angelic in her presence. A true beauty without embellishments.
