  • Forward-looking, real-time sonar imaging like Garmin Panoptix LiveScope opens the door to entirely new fishing opportunities previously unavailable. In this video, Wired2Fish’s Kyle Peterson demonstrates the power of scanning structures for big nomadic walleyes and targets them with a drop shot and leech.

    As Kyle notes, he's not zeroing in on schools of fish, rather single individuals roaming or relating to baitfish. He explains how to maintain critical offset to avoid spooking the walleyes while making accurate pitch casts to land the bait in their face. With an x/y axis in play, Peterson not only adjusts his casting distance (x-axis) relative to the fish but, just as importantly, targets their location in the water column (y-axis) -- this, in turn, changes how he rigs. Longer drop shot leaders are more effective at catching active, high riding walleye than a short leader.
    Lastly, Peterson shares the full details of his rod, reel and line setup for targeting big walleye to include a little trick to ensure his line to line knot doesn’t fail under repetitive casting and fighting big fish.

    Great vid! I restored an old 89 Alumacraft Lunker -16.5ft just so I could get my step-dad out on the lakes. He's always been a trout fisherman but I want to get him safely into some other species now that he can't hit the small streams like he used to. I bought a Panoptics so I've been looking for vids like this because the lakes I fish for bass have walley, musky, pike, largemouth, smallmouth, and stripers.

    Man those are some nice fish. I've been obsessed with walleye for decades, but they are hard to come by in my part of the Carolinas. My retirement property in Arkansas is stupid with them though, so everytime I go it's game on. Hard to beat big ol 20+inch class walleye

    Are you using the LVS12 or LVS32 transducer?
    *edit:* nvm, I see the "GLS 10" on the screen of the unit, meaning it is a LVS32. DANG IT, the LVS32 in the "Garmin Panoptix LiveScope System" ($1600) is SO WORTH IT over the LVS12 ($499)... I wish I could just plug in the LVS32 without the black box (GLS 10).

    I really need to go up the Chattahoochee river up from Lake Lanier and try this. I could use either big nightcrawlers or leeches I suppose. I’m sure I’ll get catfish and other stuff, but really would like to get some walleye because I know they are in there.!!

    • @WarEagleTheBest

      You’ll def have some luck with that. I’ve been doing pretty good on them on carters lake this year. This time of year there probably still around the Chattahoochee and Chestatee river arms on Lanier

    Not a fan of the LiveScope, especially in tournament settings. I don’t see how this technology makes you a better angler, IMO it actually regresses your skill as an angler. All day you got your face buried in this computer screen just cherry picking fish. How that helps you understand all the factors that goes into locating fish doesn’t add up for me. Not knocking anyone who uses it and if it works for you then more power to you but for me there is something very inauthentic about the LiveScope, again just my opinion.

    It's not ethical to fish deeper than 30ft, a lot of those fish will die

      Hey Freddy, he wasn't fishing over 30ft. The fish just made its way off the break during the fight.

    You should mention pulling a walleye out of 44' of water is a death sentence for that walleye. Unless you're catching eaters, you shouldn't be fishing over 32'.

      It does look like you drifted over deep water I should say, so it's all good. But something good to let the people know.

      @Wired2Fish  3 роки тому +3

      @@avail657 I totally agree with you! Pulling fish out of deep water is not overly healthy for them. Also, you are correct in that I was floating out over open water off the deep break. That fish was a bit of a handful. I should have made mention in the video that pulling fish from deep water is something that should be avoided. Thanks for the comment and watching.
