I love me some Earl Strickland but if that last 9 ball didn't go in, I would have died laughing.
4 legends of the game, all of them missing relatively easy shots at some point during this match. Just goes to show that when the pressure is at its highest, even the best can fall victim to nerves and careless errors.

As an American I love Mika Immonen. There's something about his stoicism that makes me think deep down he might love the game more than any other player ever. Just watch his face every game. Everything matters so much. He's my favorite player.
This is 10 years ago but Mika got pretty negative since then. He whines about every little obstacle on his way. I think they call him the bitch in NY because that's all he does..
Earl is and always will be a diva. He’s dramatic, he’s expressive, and sometimes he’s a bit obscene. It’s just part of his genius. Love him or hate him, he’s genuine and sincere.
I ran into him one time when he was practicing. If you aren't competing with him, he's as nice as anyone I ever met. He did some trick shots for the people there.
Earl knows whats good for the game. It's like Phil Hellmuth in poker.
There is nothing genius in being asshole, agresive and disrespectful to other players. You can say Efren is the great, but not this guy

I love Earl he’s a Gunfighter. I’ve met Efren and I’ve met Earl. Earl has always been approachable and willing to talk about the game. Efren is much more reserved, very quiet

Even as a European fan, I miss watching Earl Strickland play. He makes pool watchable for the casual/semi fans as he is entertaining as well as a top, top player.
The commentators are obsessed with Earl's antics, complaining that it's basically uncalled for, that it doesn't help him, etc. Reality check: Earl is one of the greatest pool players ever and he's always been like that. It's part of his personality. He can't switch it off. If he tried to suppress his emotions, he would probably lose. He needs to let off steam.

I swear that the current administrators of pool just hate fun. Silent pool is boring pool, and they just seem to want to make every player shut up.

@@myblacklab7 Pool,like snooker needs silence. It's a sport based on concentration. But I prefer the early 2000s mosconi cup which was louder. And more fancy. Steve Davis with O'Sullivan was such a treat to watch

Shane definitely looked up to Earl at one point when he was just an up and comer in the pool world, now he is playing by his side. Congrats Shane! Those who knew him when he was younger knew he would be competing with the best someday!
Love that Earl made the winning shot despite these "holier than thou" asshole commentators and sound crew did their best to kill the raw emotion involved. So I say for Earl, FUCK YEAH!!!

Yea idk I feel like some of the commentators have trouble bantering and they can’t sit silent so they just pick something to talk about and earl is easy to criticize and or praise. Just a very noteworthy guy and any talk about him is generally good banter

People say earl is emotional, but if anyone has ever seen mika play in person, he is quite possibly the most emotional player I've ever seen. Hes just not as vocal, he whines rather silently but its still just as noticeable and actually hampers him.

Let's be honest: People say Earl is a tool. I concur. He is also one of the best to *ever* play the game, and only a fool would see his accomplishments and say otherwise. There have been plenty of bombastic blowhards in all realms of competitive sports. Pool is no different, and Earl is the patron saint of the blowhard guild. Doesn't mean they're not good; just means if they're on fire and you have a glass of water you're more apt to drink the water and watch the show.

Why do these commentators hate and have no respect for Earl? I’m not sure I’ve ever heard such biased commentating before. At least he has a personality and isnt a mindless robot that no one wants to watch.
They’re such bitches. I don’t worship Earl by any means but the commentators were very blatantly talking shit about the American team and supporting the European team. They took advantage of every opportunity to insult or criticize Earl. It became immature and unprofessional more than anything.

This is a match from 10 years ago. When they just upload it it's always full of commercials but after a few weeks there's no commercials any more. And since it is a match from so long ago it doesn't really matter when you see it or does it?

These commentators always do a great job but I wish pool commentators in general had more respect for player mics. In F1, when there's a TV team radio, whoever's speaking, whether in the booth or reporting in a rainy pit lane, quiets immediately. It's a shame when these great commentators talk straight over the players.

Earl considers the handshake at the end of a match, a sign of respect for how he thinks his opponent played, and if he thinks his opponent was lucky or not. It might be better if he just respected the professional opposite him regardless of how the match went, but that's not how Earl rolls.
