While All Elite Wrestling has been criticized for "not having stories" by some of the online wrestling community, the past couple of weeks of AEW television suggest they may be addressing that perception.
AEW Dynamite on June 12, 2024 featured an abundance of a story craft technique we've mentioned on this channel before: set up and delivery. From Swerve Strickland being the center of multiple angles and setting up multiple matches around him, including the upcoming Blood and Guts match in July, to MJF and RUSH establishing another beat in their rivalry that will see the delivery happen next week commercial free, to even introducing CMLL, Stardom, and New Japan Pro-Wrestling stars in video packages (something missing in prior years before the Forbidden Door shows), the creative team in All Elite Wrestling are making strides that are noticeable to the keen eye.
We look at this week's episode of AEW Dynamite and the various ways in which they've set up future matches and events for its fans.

Among other reasons, I enjoy your channel because you give praise when an improvement is made. Alot of people jump at the opportunity to critique, whether fair or not. But will rarely praise when there it is rectified. Usually with the idea that “well they should of already been doing it”. Video packages being the best example.

@@ApolloTheLeader We have to do a better job of not acknowledging, repeating or engaging with any of those guys. They have decided AEW is not for them. Which is fine, but there are far more deserving creators. Lets continue to boost them.

JD is the worst kind of podcaster out there with his utterly ignorant criticisms and toxic disrespectful takes. The Punk footage reveal basically showed his true colors towards AEW. He lost me forever as a listener. I don't care if he praises AEW again or bashes WWE the same way. He is not credible and deserves zero attention.

@ApolloTheLeader lol. Jessex isca AEW fanboy. He just says enough against AEW to save face. I watch JD but i dislike how they get mad at others opinions depending on what mood they're in.
@@zomb60 to me JD just follows the crowd n whats hot. He doesnt watch rampage or Collision but continues to complain about story, which is like skipping chapters in a book but still expecting to grasp the emotions of the story.

@@theceej7 I noticed right away in Swerve and Ospreay confrontation the way they presented this segment with a small camera microphone to catch the tense discussion between the two, I liked the way it looked. It's the same approach that got The Tribal Chief character over in its early stages.
Personally, the look swerve gave to Will Osprey at the end of Dynamite told more of a story than any repetitive tag lines, one line zingers or brawl segments ever could. The look in swerves eyes was "youre on thin ice, watch yourself". And to do that to Will Osprey, the golden Goose, everyones new fav, is absolutely Big Time. In the hood they'd say swerve son'd him or big bro'd him. Will is the cheeky Brit just TryA hAva biT of A go at it, matE. But swerve is NOT playing.
Its an improvement, for sure. As long as they have that nice balance, you can't really complain. Granted, you can still see some of their problems, and I dont anyone should ignore, acknowledging the good is just as important.

Finally someone in this space that doesn't just try to dog AEW. You are right. I noticed it too. In fact, they did the same on Collision too. I have been noticing a lot of changes when it comes to building storylines but you have complainers like Jim Cornette and Eric Bischoff constantly bashing it. This is why I hate the IWC.

This PPV feels like good set up and I hope to deliver on continuity from the previous PPV. I want to see wrestlers that lose start a journey of internal redemption. I want to wrestlers who are in a winning streak to be surrounded with external conflict. Simple set up gets me interested in watching people win and lose matches. I’m interested in the swerve v osprey.
They are doing well with this love angle with Mina, Toni, and May. I’m not going to expect a 4 star in ring match but they setting thing up.
Where the Kingdom in the MJF storyline? I wouldn’t mind MJF fight members of the Kingdom. RUSH has 0 connections with the Kingdom. Give me Roderick Strong vs. MJF. That makes sense
The new Elite doing another Blood and Guts is great. The Elite 2.0 vs AEW is fun for the summer. If it give me Okada vs. Swerve, I’m happy with that.
The rest needs work in my opinion.
just started watching but i remember your complaints about the story telling and i agree i hope they stay consistent with good story telling.
We don't need an Arial Assassin at Forbidden Door Rantin, we need....A KINGPIN OF THE COMMONWEALTH, Just imagine if he comes out to his Bring it Down Zenith of God version. Also...I'm really glad that Rush and MJF are doing this, because it puts more eyes on Rush, Who Deserves a title belt around his waist. This Dynamite was amazing, can't wait for collision.
I've also noticed this over the past few weeks. It feels like more things are happening with a purpose. I wonder what backstage factors are causing this. I also cracked up at you accidentally calling it the AEW intercontinental title. I have been thinking that Ospreay should unify the continental and international belt 😅.
I definitely think AEW is improving their storytelling. I never understood the criticism that AEW lacked stories because I focus more on in-ring performances and never cared much for the WWE style of show. However, while watching this week’s Dynamite, I was impressed by how efficiently they told multiple stories and promoted upcoming matches. They managed to do this while also having some very good matches. Dynamite is often excellent but this show just felt different. When I saw the title of this video, I knew you were going to clearly explain why it felt different.

The Main event and upper midcard is in good hands! The lower end still needs some more cohesion. I personally do not like Jericho’s Learning Tree, that time should go to something else.

What I like about these setups is that it also help improve their up and coming tickets. If the audience knows what the matches are in advance, the more likey they will come as opposed to knowing at the last minute. Dynamite was great. I hope they keep up.
