  • NJPW's 10 Step Plan | Savvy Swerve | AEW Title Scene
    #njpw #swervestrickland #aew
Hiroshi Tanahashi and the higher ups at New Japan Pro-Wrestling reveal their ten step plan to revitalize the promotion that has been on the backfoot for about four years now following a golden era in the mid to late 2010s. What will that plan be and can it work?
In other news, Swerve Strickland shows some savvy during his Busted Open Radio interview where Bully Ray attempted to layer "WWE-speak" over the conversation with the current AEW World Champion.
Swerve also has a slew of new challengers heading into one of the most important seasons of the year for AEW. Not only does he have to fend off the challenge of the red hot Will Ospreay at Forbidden Door but Bryan Danielson and MJF have also declared their intentions for the title at All In 2024.
This is pro-wrestling news for June 6, 2024.

Im super glad for this, thank you for covering it. NJPW is the company that made me fall all over in love with wrestling and I am here for the bad and the good.

Swerve handled that whole thing like a champ(no pun intended) lol they tried to get him with multiple “Anti-AEW” gotcha questions and he Swerved them😂 I’m done.

Speaking of excursion, aew should really consider sending the top flight crew and private party to new Japan for a least 4 months

Given what Tony Khan said recently, that might be on the horizon (sending more stars over).
I look at it this way: if you're paying those guys, they're not doing much of anything, your partner has need for some fresh blood ... sounds like a simple equation to me.

In the short time I’ve been watching NJPW. I think I’ve seen about two black wrestlers not including Kevin Knight. And your idea is to bring 4 of them on excursion? I’m with it lol

lol.. I don't watch WWE, they really are calling it the Prohibited Porthole ? Sounds like a Janet Jacme movie from 1997 or something.. the Racial stuff with AEW now having black champs makes no sense.. from the start the company had black champions.. Scorpio Sky, Keith Lee and Strickland, Scorpio even was TNT champion, even representation in other cultures, as Lucha Bros also being tag champs, Nyla Rose also. Thunder Rosa.. AEW is very diverse. Name the Black wrestler before Swerve that could {should} have been champ.. you cant. Porque es nada .... oh and who can forget the experiment that was Jade? I have seen more diversity in AEW in 5 years, than the ..40 I spent watching WWE before I gave up on it.

    • @rassslinRant
      @rassslinRant  3 місяці тому +2

Yeah, I didn't agree 100% with the assertion back then but I think it's a moot point now about race. AEW has been pretty good at doing representation without making it a big deal. They just do it naturally which is the way it's supposed to be IMO.

Black wrestlers have always been treated good with championships in aew: Jade, Scorpio Sky, Keith Lee, Will Hobbs, Swerve, Mercedes, and of course the 1st ever tnt champ Cody. All jokes aside. Its internet fans that hold aew to wwes standard even though it took wwe like 40 years.

I agree with the AEW excursion idea it actually helped recatapult Jack Perry before he came back to AEW. They have so many young stars who really aren't doing anything that they could send to represent AEW over in Japan and it could really help a bunch of them develop their craft by learning the Japanese style of wrestling. Hopefully there's more crossover between both companies because it does feel a bit one sided except on the occasion when you have a few big stars like Mox and Danielson make an appearance and im sure they're not super happy they lost most of their biggest stars like Okada and Ospreay to AEW.

Honestly I have no interest in seeing MJF with the belt again. He's back already doing the stuff that made me wanna stop watching. 20 minute promo, no wrestling, Worky McShoot Work, burying the roster. We're still in this struggle between gritty best in the world wrestling (Swerve, BCC, Copeland) and sports entertainment (Toni, the Elite, Jericho). MJF tips the balance.

I have been saying for a long time that I would love to see several AEW wreatlers in the G1 Climax tournament. We see the same old wrestlers time after time. It would be exciting to see Top Flight and Private Party, in the Super Jr. Tag Team tournament.

@PuroPassion-1 Eddie Kingston has been a fan of Japanese wrestling when TK was a teenager. If it works as a good relationship between AEW and Japanese wrestling to promote their stars. Even WWE is trying to bond with other Japanese wrestling organizations. WWE has hired some of the best women wrestlers from Stardom.

I whole heartedly agree with and relate to the refusal to use WWE specific terminology. I've resisted that myself.
I never say "rivalry" I say feud.
Never said live events, they're house shows
    Not WWE universe, they're fans.
Not championship opportunity, but title shot.
    Not superstars, but wrestlers.
Not medical facility, but hospital etc..
Having said that some of the younger fans who are in their 20s and WWE is all they've ever known, they have been successfully brainwashed and through no fault of theirs.

I’m sorry but I don’t want the title anywhere near MJF anytime soon. I get it he’s a mainstay but the shenanigans of his last few months as champ really tainted his run for me and a lot of ppl. It was very reminiscent of the Codyverse nonsense like that Anthony Ogogo match. Too convoluted and too much happening to even enjoy the wrestling component. I was happy to see him lose to Joe because I thought we needed a break at the time from the mjfverse.
Also what do you think about the possibility of team AEW with Swerve on it and team Elite with Hangman and seeing that in a crazy match? I’m hoping that’s where this Elite story is heading. That blood feud him and Swerve had was amazing and Adam was pulling out some great unhinged character work that we wanted from him when we thought he might turn on Kenny.

It was interesting to see (5 years ago) how Bully started off being supportive of AEW. Since the time he got into it with TK. Bully has became noticeably against AEW. Which is kind of sad since it is jus job to be an analyst and provide unbiased commentary.

1- It’s great to see New Japan have long term and short term plans for there future. They need to get back on a good footing.
2- Swerve correcting Bully was was funny. People are just indoctrinated on the WWE and non WWE side. One says championship belt and the other championship title. I believe Bully didn’t mean to do it on purpose, it was just a natural reaction. Swerve didn’t have to act like a asshole because the way someone naturally react.
3- It’s great to see the main title/belt scene with the AEW title/belt has good legs for the future. I’m just brought back when a fatal 4 w/ MJF, jungle boy, Darby Allin, and Sammy Guevara. We all believed “XYZ” was going to happen, that guy is going to get a big, and this guy will win the belt. At the end of the day, MJF stayed champion, Darby continued to his streak to hurt his body, Sammy lowered to low mid card status, and Jungle Boy turned heel after beat up by CM Punk. I’m just going with the journey expecting none of my mental booking to happen. Keep expectations low and you will be disappointed.
The only match I’m really excited to watch is Mina v Toni Storm. I’m not expecting a 7 star match or a match of the year contender. It oddly has my attention above anything coming for Forbidden Door this year. MJF will fight RUSH!!!!! RUSH in Forbidden Door!! Get me a more interesting wrestler.

The thing about including this guys in the BOSJ: you'll never make the loudest fans happy. They go - "Ew, gross. Why is AEW invading our company?" They don't go - "It's an uneven partnership!! Tony just wants to take out talent!"

The fact that Jon Moxley is current IWGP champions shows that NJPW still have a big problem deciding their next true main-eventer other than injury prone Naito...
Either Sanada needs to step up his game because his reigns is kinda stale, or it's time for other midcard like Hiromu, Despy, Shingo, Yota, etc to step in to the spotlight

I think they can do with Ospreay and MJF chasing the belt, they're still young and they have time to tell this story. Danielson, however, has no time left, he was supposed to be already retired by this point, but luckily decided to stick around for a couple more months. I really think he should win the Owen Hart Cup and challenge for the belt. I also don't wanna see Swerve's reign to end abruptly, he is doing really well as the man in the company.

Step 3 seems to be a bit dubious because at the presser they talked as if they know some interference stuff is needed sometimes, but I do hope that it's reduced considerably or at least used effectively instead of just having HoT run-ins that don't equate to HoT actually winning. It benefits no one, turns into a circus real quick, and makes already lenient NJPW refs look outright toothless.
Step 9 is just comical with context. Apparently someone in the front office lost a thumb drive with fan info.

It’s weird how WWE tries to dictate what seems to be even the smallest things. Premium live event. That in and of itself just sounds weird. No, it’s a pay per view. It really just shows the power of words. Another example, though it’s different. Renaming Walter Gunther. I know one reason they did that was to make money off of merch. But, he’s never going to be Gunther. To this day me and everyone I know who watches wrestling still call him Walter.

    • @rassslinRant
      @rassslinRant  3 місяці тому +4

It's an age old marketing tactic. I've talked about the "Seven Touches of Advertising" before on here. Customers hear a phrase at least seven times and it sticks in their brain. That's always been WWE's greatest tool, it certainly hasn't been that their wrestling shows are the best, but that their marketing is FAR beyond anything any other wrestling company, even to this day, have picked up on.
Bischoff knew some of this which is why "Where The Big Boys Play" worked so well. AEW is trying with "Where The Best Wrestle" and notice it's Mercedes, Swerve, Danielson ... all people who were in that system and get it ... that use that term the most.
