Confession time, I was using Word for over 10 years before I found this and used to add fonts types, size, and color each time I started a doucment. This is way easier :)
Hello Heather - Thank you for this video. I was pulling out my hair trying to understand and set styles to my up and coming Indie book. I viewed other videos and just 'couldn't get it'. You explained it so well. It was easy to comprehend, and you have the gift of reaching and teaching others. Whew! Now I can rest easy. Thank you again!
This was a great tutorial. I'd never tried the "Character" style before - this will be extremely useful for me when teaching online! Is there any chance you could do a little tutorial on how the "Table" one would work? I assume it would convert the selected text into a table? But how would we tell it how many rows and columns we need? Thank you for this video.
Hi, so yeah, I did a bad job of describing that. In the styles section, where you see names like Heading, Title, Normal, etc., there is a tiny drop-down arrow at the bottom right side of that box. This will make the box larger so you can see more than the top few options. For the second question, I am showing an alternative way to find styles. If you select some words, any words, you can right-click them, and a menu will pop up that allows you to quickly access the styles options.
Custom styles are tied to text. Since I don't know what you are trying to accomplish I will make suggestion based on how I see people use pictures. You can insert an image into a word document for things like headers, footers, or even a background of the document. Most people I work with are using it as the header so that every document has consistent branding. Then I would suggest saving the formatted document as a template. When you got to file > save as switch the doc type from word document to word template. This way you can always start from a blank template that has your image in it.
@@HeatherMajors Hi thanks for your response. I need to make a manual with many same pages about 60 or so. My idea was to make 1 header per page, below it 4 lines of text and below it an image. Everything on 1 page should be fixed. This page I then copy 60 times. I then want to drag in the images and they should automatically adjust to the frame. Problem is as soon as I hit enter or type somewhere everything shifts.

Hi, I will have to look at that idea and play with it a bit. Glad this video was helpful and that you offered a suggestion.
great job as well as articulate
Thank you. Hope you found the answer you were looking for.
At 0:38 you say "click the dropdown." Where is the dropdown? What do I right-click?
