Yeah the blade steel is a bit of a bummer. I wish they at least sprung for 8Cr13 or Aus 8 here - I think eventually I'm going to have to get a custom Folts Minimalist.
Hmm, maybe try calling him? I know he was busy preparing for Blade show. Actually just met him there yesterday. I handled a few of his custom minimalists and they are sweet - especially for the price. Definitely worth getting. I also believe GP knives carries his custom minimalists if you want to go straight to a dealer.
Thanks man. You may want to consider a full on Alan Folts custom SPEW then, it's about $150 if I recall correctly but completely custom made with high end steel (not sure what he uses exactly - it's a custom).

I got my crkt spew a week ago and have used and abused it since I bought it because i work and live on a farm and with maybe 10 minutes of sharpening last night i got it shaving sharp with little to no effort
Great review bro! I just can't see ever using an awkward shaped small knife like that....just my thoughts.
I don't know why everyone says the SPEW weighs 3.0 oz. I put it in the scale and it's 1.8 oz without the sheath.
I might pick one up at some point, it's a cool design for sure!

i prefer the brous silent soldier for small neck knives more expensive yes but d2 tool steel and super strong

I was looking at the spew while at Walmart and I realized... well I pulled my kershaw leek out of my pocket at the blade shape is literally identical. Not that I mind. I love the leek and I’ve thought about getting the spew

I thought the same thing, I wanted a minimalist but I'm a steel Nazi and I emailed Alan Folts a few times about a custom one but I haven't received any messages back... and it sucks because we live in the same darn city! lol

Yeah it's about 5 times as expensive as the Minimalist but it looks like a real nice knife.
