    Vyvanse changed my life in every aspect I went 30 years without knowing I had ADHD it felt like I was in a room with 1000 people talking and now that I'm on the medication I'm just alone to myself in that room being able to focus on what I need to do

      @@BrandonsTechChannel This is a 4 week update and it has changed my life so much I don't even know who I am in a good way lmao. I started with 20mg for 1 week then went to 30mg as prescribed by my doctor but it didn't really do anything for me it's when I tried 40mg that was a game changer, I'm on a new path in life and I am at peace.

    I haven't touched my ritalin meds in about a year now. Bad reactions. Also not keen on trying other stimulants when already predisposed to jitters. So its been a journey of figuring it out the "hard way" how to manage ADHD, and I've found so many resources (now you) that help in that way. There's things that meds just can't "teach" or overcome. And those lessons are way more lasting (and transformative imo) than what a pill can offer

    • @quinnco9
      @quinnco9 5 місяців тому +1

      Have you considered/tried non-stimulants? Strattera/atomoxetine, Wellbutrin/bupropion, and a few others. I had to try four stimulants (including Ritalin) to find one I liked, and I’m considering atomoxetine at some point.
      I fought the hard way for years-I recommend CBT strategies, focusing on visual cues, etc. ADHD meds fixed nothing on their own, nor did “learning” new techniques, but the meds have enabled me to practice the strategies and turn them into habits. I’ve also learned a lot from Dr. Russell Barkley. Regardless, I wish you the best of luck! 🍀

      Well, research somewhat supports what you're suggesting. At least my understanding of reading them is that ADHD usually cannot be fully treated by either medication, therapy, or skill/ADHD coaching alone. A combination of them holds the best outcome for long-lasting impact, though the importance of medication is sometimes overstretched, it still stands as being the most effective treatment for ADHD. Independent reviews are in debate on to what extent, but mostly all come to the conclusion that the more severe the ADHD, the more critical medication with other treatment options becomes.

    • @Minepj
      @Minepj 4 місяці тому +3

      @@naturally_robResearch also shows favorable circumstances like being born in a family with a higher socioeconomic status, having a suitable job, money and otherwise ADHD friendly lifestyle makes a huge difference. There's surprisingly little research on long term efficacy of meds, and what there is suggests it tends to drop a couple of years down the line.
      In short ADHD isn't something you can fix in a doctor's or therapist's office if you're not in a position that allows you to adapt your lifestyle to your needs.

    • @naturally_rob
      @naturally_rob 4 місяці тому +1

      @@Minepj Yeah certainly! Socioeconmic status has a large impact in a lot of areas of life, especially with mental health and conditions like ADHD, Autism, Dyslexia, etc. And depending on your job, you may or may not be able to adjust much to help your situation.
      Research in the long-term is indeed lacking. However, clinically it's presumed that the best course of action is what you stated: lifestyle changes outside the doctor's office. We do have quite a substantional amount of research for the short-term efficacy (sub 2 years), which is what I had in mind with my original comment. In that short-term, having some combinations of lifestyle changes, medication, therapy, and coaching have been proven to have the best outcomes in those 2 years.
      Again though, as you've stated, socioeconmic status is a large factor in this. Luckily with mental health and particulary ADHD awareness on the rise we've been seeing more accessible programs open for people who have a lower socioeconomic status. With that comes its own issues, but I do not plan to write a nocel.

    I'm glad I found your video, and am also thankful there is hope for going off meds at some point. I am 40 and was recently diagnosed with ADHD, I'm pretty sure I have had it all my life but it is only now having serious negative effects on my life. I tried behavioral therapy first but that wasn't enough and my inability to perform at my job was causing me a lot of stress and axiety. For that reason my doctor prescribed me with Adderall and I am on day 2. My biggest take away so far is similar to yours from your "I took ADHD medication for a week". So far I have been able to maintain focus and actually initiate tasks that need doing. Distractions are not as enticing as they once were. I was definitely nervous to start taking ADHD meds and am nervous of the thought of being om meds indefinitely; for that reason I have hope and a goal to eventually get off of the meds and manage this wholly with behavioral therapy.

    So my research on ADHD follows only Russell burkerkly, I'm probably spelling his name wrong. So pretty biased since im following only one researcher, i would say, so take with a grain a salt and do more research.
    From what i remember him talking about, ADHD is the most treatable developmental disorder with meds i believe, idk if i got the quote right tho. The quote i believe comes from a presentation on youtube to parents and how to approach ADHD i think its called like 30 things to know about adhd or something.
    He has is own UA-cam channel is making videos once a week or month about the state of research papers and with, i think, the goal of putting all the presentations he's made on UA-cam since he has now retired. Just thought i would put that info here.

    It can be super helpful when you are working as a team, because the other people become your “rails”. Also physical jobs like landscaping or waiting tables, or working as a repair technician or delivery person also prevent ADHD from becoming as much of a problem. It’s still there, but it isn’t completely crippling. You probably won’t get promoted to run the company, but you can perform well.
    I REALLY APPRECIATE THE PERSPECTIVE you gave, because spectrum disorders and medications are different for everyone. The videos where people insist their personal story proves a solution for everyone are unethical misinformation. Thank you for not doing that. ♥️

    Started taking l-tyrosine. So true about exposure to other creative people every day sometimes being enough to feel super motivated and productive. They do joke about ADD - if you have been procrastinating about a project, hire someone to watch you do it. You’ll be done in 2 hours. On the days I’m alone with my work, I def need stimulants. Coffee makes me sleepy, yes some buzz, but not enough energy. Too sensitive to prescription drugs. Tyrosine feels the niche. They say 500-1500 mg a day. I find 150 in the morning and the same at lunch is enough for me, but I due process drugs way too intensely.

    I was on Vyvanse for 5-6 months. The first few weeks were incredible. It's like my brain was placed into clear cool crisp water and I felt in control of my mind for the first time in ages. This carried on for a month or so, but during that time I had to keep upping a dose until I got to 70. It then started to slowly slide away and the old me returned. Towards the end, I felt all my ADHD come back, but alongside that was poor sleep, teeth grinding and massively easy to anger. I quit, it was horrible quitting, but I did. I then found Phosphatidyl serine, which i started to take with high strength krill oil and it was just so much better. My mind quieted, I felt myself starting to chill out again, get out of fight or flight, but the best bit, it felt very natural. None of the crashes of adderall / Vyvanse, none of the teeth grindnig, temper tantrums.

    • @The_Tank18
      @The_Tank18 3 місяці тому

      @@javiceres well it’s a good thing that I found a solution recently. I started micro dosing on magic mushrooms. I have been able to cut my antidepressant down to just taking 1/3, which is also helped with ADHD. I used to take the doses as high as 110 on Adderall, which is terrible obviously. However, because of the mushrooms, not only do I take 60 mg, I can cut my 30 mg instant release in half and take 15 in the afternoon and 15 at night because I’m in nursing school student and need to study late into the hours. I honest to God thought I was doomed, but this has been a total lifesaver.
      Not sure your views on psychedelics. But this might be an option for you, if you buy from the right place. I personally buy from a “company”/“church”, I’d be willing to share with you in like a DM or something. Essentially, you can make a donation to the church and after that, they ship to you their product that you choose. I was extremely skeptical of this at first and even in the beginning I was like this is BS. It’s not working, but after a little bit of time on it, I’ve realized how much of a lifesaver this has been for me. Not only can I take tests, but I feel like I’m actually comprehending them.
      Now I need to add a huge disclaimer. I am not a doctor and do not know how this stuff affects everyone’s body. For me, it clearly works more as a stimulant, but for others, it works more as a “downer” of sorts. However, it was my psychiatrist that told me about this company. And I trust my psychiatrist dearly after years of treatment for ADHD. They told me they couldn’t say anything to me about it dosing wise so you’re on your own there. But honestly, it has worked so well for me that even family members who were anti-drugs of any kind are considering going on it. It has truly been a miracle. I will tell you upfront it is pretty expensive however, if you’re willing to pay for it, this could be a life changer for you.

    I think what people have to keep in mind, is that the meds don't "fix" adhd, they are more like crutches...and for some they can act more like wheelchairs...for others it just helps a little, depending on the person, their needs and reactions to the medications, their lifestyle, job choices(if they can work) and whatever comorbidities they might have (some can't even take adhd meds cause it could threaten their bodies, like when having heart problems.
    So yeah, definitely not a "one size fits all" kinda deal

  • @DEKKD
    @DEKKD 9 днів тому

    Good vid and message. Some people require meds long term and there should be no stigma attacked to that because the human body is complex. But for most people using ADHD meds temporarily (months or longer) to help retrain the brain by developing new habits is a better solution.

    Just received ADHD diagnosis 6 weeks ago (along with Social Anxiety Disorder, and Rejection Sensitive Dysphoria). It was a surprise at first. Now that I’ve done some research it makes complete sense for me.
    I just found your channel and my question is for everyone here: anyone have experience or knowledge about the similarities or differences between caffeine and the stimulant ADHD meds?
    I just randomly started drinking green tea each day, about a month before my diagnosis. It makes me feel so much better and it’s absence is VERY noticeable on days I don’t drink any. But not in a neurotypical way like I’m tired and don’t have energy. When I don’t drink caffeinated tea it is now so obvious that I can’t focus, I’m so easily distracted, I’m just frustrated and I feel more depressed about myself because of these things.
    Sound familiar to anyone? Or does this overlap with peoples’ experience on meds? I’m trying to understand as much as I can before I start trying different meds in a couple weeks.
    Thank you all so much!! I love what you’re doing, Ty. And I specifically sought out videos from men with ADHD so thank you for speaking your truth brother.

    I'm 44 and found out about my ADHD through Covid because of what a demo job it did on my brain I'm a lot better now, but of course still have ADHD. I've been a broadcasting professional for 25 years. I have long struggled with how I am, the pros and the cons and learning about ADHD has enabled me to give myself a easier time and control the self criticism. Because I also work in comedy, I've had a long standing fear that meds would take away what makes me 'special' in terms of my creativity, but after a long period of being generally unproductive, I might be finally willing to explore it.. tentatively. Given our similar backgrounds, I've watched your clips with interest. What I want to know is what the transition to being off the medication was like and if there are ever days where you wished you could take it to just get something done? I do worry about addiction or not managing the frustration well enough to be able to stop taking medication.

    • @javiceres
      @javiceres 3 місяці тому

      In my experience the risk of addiction is zero. Actually, leaving antidepressants is really hard while with adhd meds it has no side effects whatsoever. You just don’t have it and get back to your “regular” you without a single side effect or withdrawal syndrome.

      Gang it sounds like you've been putting your "Adderall energy" into the wrong things. Especially smoking can cause you to become lazy, which it seems you've become full on lazy, and need to start being disciplined and stop smoking. That's a first step, and chill on the energy drinks. What does your diet look like, gut to brain health is very real. I say this all out of kindness.

    I am on the fence of meds because I am reallllllly bad at taking them. I take them 1) when I remember and 2) if they're within a reasonable distance of travel (ideally on the same floor as me). I got diagnosed about a month ago; ADHD via PTSD. I've had brain fog, lack of motivation and literal squirrel brain for a long time. And maybe I am stalling but because I am back in the office, I am terrified of the more physical after effects like diarrhea or drowsiness. Have you experienced anything like that with either Adderall or Vyvanse?

Atm on a combo of 2 slow release ones. Concerta, 8h. And than to get trough stuff after dinner I got the option of EQUASYM. Official slow release methylphenidate is not an option for adults with adhd where I live. I wonder if they ever tried rebounding 4x a day.

    For me I started Vyvanse and currently I am on my way to college and in my opinion it has changed me a lot. I think it has changed me for the good, I am able to focus on school, I am motivated to really do anything. Although there are drawbacks to using this medication, before I used to struggle with anxiety and panic attacks, but I feel I have slowly been able to control my anxiety for them most part while on the medication. There are also times where I don't need the medication like if I am taking a break day or going to social gatherings. But overall my experience with this stimulant has helped me since middle school, and hopefully I will be able to slowly get off of it once I get older, but as of right now I am locked in. 👍

      Do your research. Keep at a steady low dose and every now and again, try have a tolerance break because the effectiveness reduced to longer you take. My partner is about to start his medication age 28. I think it will do a world of good for him. His daughter is just starting secondary and definitely has ADHD and it is affecting her and her education. It would be great to try her on some adhd medications but our only worry is the tolerance as this will need to be monitored

    Have you considered using your meds intermittently, just when you're having trouble focusing and your usual set of management techniques aren't cutting it?
    One of the nice things about the stimulant meds is they're not like - say - antidepressants, where you need to ramp up and maintain a regular daily dose, then carefully ramp down if you want to stop etc. You can take a dose once in a blue moon if you want to. If Methylphenidate works for you then you also have the option of the short-release "Ritalin" version, which generally lasts about four hours - good for falling back on for a tough afternoon of work-grind without having to worry about being awake all night.
    Of course there are other more mild stimulants/dopaminergic compounds that can work for ADHD: Caffeine, Dark Chocolate, Nicotine**
    ** (not recommended if you don't already smoke or vape ... and still not recommended if you do: the last thing any of us need is some kind of medical justification to keep smoking, haha).
    Something else that works is 1-3 minutes of cold water immersion. If you've got a pool or a bath cold enough that you're physically uncomfortable (you don't have to be frozen to the core - it's relative to your tolerance for the cold) then it provides a dopamine boost that lasts several hours (vs the spike and crash that things like nicotine and sugar have). I can vouch for it working. I hop in the pool in my building in the cooler months (it's like a hot-tub in summer) or take a cold shower for a couple of minutes.
    Andrew Huberman has two good videos on all kinds of ways to manage your dopamine levels (which for those reading who don't already know - is one of the main mechanisms to controlling your ADHD: All of the stimulant meds primarily affect dopamine.
    One final note on Dopamine (for those not aware). Some of the most (unnaturally massive) dopamine boosts come from MDMA, Meth/Ice, and Cocaine (both powdered and in the form of "crack"). If you've got ADHD and you're ever tempted to try any of those, be even more wary about going anywhere near them than a neurotypical person should be. We ADHD'ers love to self-medicate with those substances - and the last two in particular can lead to serious addiction problems - especially to those of us with more impulsive forms of ADHD)

    I can't absorb what you are saying with the music going.
    I don't think anyone who makes videos should ever play music and narration at the same time. Personally I can't filter out either to listen to the other.
