      This was by far my favorite Conan story ever, however, you forgot to add something to the end of your narration. "And even a Cimmerian can cry". In the comic book, as Conan is watching the boat burning while sailing away, you see a tear forming in the corner of Conan's eye. I still get goosebumps whenever I read that comic. Thank you for this post.

    It's great how your performance gave a bitter edge to this statement. Makes you wonder, if that was the reason, why Conan left Cimmeria in the first place: he grew tired of fighting in a wasteland for a god that does not really care at all.

    In the movie Valeria is an amalgam of the Sea Queen and the Britonian she pirate named Valeria. In the story Red Nails, the woman is more of a fighter that sees herself as an equal to any martial man. And she's less sexualized and more of a regular companion to Conan as they encounter yet another Fallen ancient city in the middle of nowhere, where Conan as usual, acts like he's never killed a demon or sorcerer before.

    • @TheCybrarian
      @TheCybrarian  3 роки тому

      Conan chronology is tricky as the original Robert E. Howard works were published in no real order in Weird Tales magazine, then there's the additional authors like 'DeCamp', and more with Robert Jordan, and all the comics to consider.
      So as far as our productions go you have started perfectly with 'Tower of the Elephant' when Conan is still young.
      We asked a while ago if anyone had a preference for what order our playlists should be in (release date or character chronology etc) but didn't get much feedback.
      the link below should keep you right but you'll prob want to do 'God in the Bowl' and 'Rogues in the House' next (leaving 'Phoenix on the Sword' and 'Scarlet Citadel' to the end as he's a king by then)...

    This is the first conan story that I dont really get. The others are just amazing. This is very entertaining (especially with that high quality audiobook, many thanks for the work, I love conans bad ass voice) but why didnt the winged creature just kill conan as well instead of using black lotus? It just seems like a massive plot hole. And I dont see the meaning of this story (maybe I just overthink a simple pulp adventure. maybe I just missed something cuz Im not fluent english. Anyway 'twas still very cool.

    • @TheCybrarian

      not sure if the winged creature used the black lotus, more Conan was delayed by accident becuase of the lotus so he wasn't there/awake for the death of Belit and the crew
      as for the meaning, we can all take from it what we see or feel from our own point of view, Conan and Belit were dedicated to each other, but she was lured away by greed which leads to her death, Conan avenges her and has a funeral for her and turns his back on the treasure and the sea, but she was still dedicated to him, even in death, despite her weakness for gold, which she proves by saving him as she promised
