recovering from out of position - making two and three ball plants and starting with a tightly bunched pack. I think this is the best maximum I have seen. Just amazing.
Maybe others have won more and have lasted on the circuit longer, but to me he was the best player ever to have graced this game. Even his attitude and demeanour was first class. Certain players today should take note.
You are talking like Hendry is some unknow. He has the second hightest ranking wins, equal for World Championships, 3rd for 147s. Most players would agree he is either the best of all time or a close second to O'Sullivan.
One of those rare Hendry breaks where the cue ball ran away from him a few times, but managed to pull out some insane recovery pots. The man had it all! Easy to forget just how dominant this man was in his era, especially in this competition.
For mental toughness he was light yrs ahead of all others ... he was on the downward slope yrs before this but could still muster the tenacity to pull it off, just fabulous.
Wow. He was a complete animal. He says he "just had" that killer instinct, but I don't believe it for a second. He psychologically trained himself to be a warrior.
How wonderful it must have been for him, reaching the last 6 balls and - maybe - finding himself fractionally relaxing and his eyesight becoming just slightly more clear: feeling like a winner during the whole last minutes of play. Yes, he must have enjoyed it! J.
I know Stephen says he developed a yip in his stroke- but I think he just didn’t want the hassles of competition anymore. He truly was an amazing player to watch.
If only his cue never got broken on the plane. I really do think he would have dominated the 2000s as well. He was never the same players after using a good cue rather than his squint cheap cue. It worked for him and he lost his hunger after
Are you nuts? A multi millionaire can choose to buy any cue in the world. When Ronnie needed a new cue, he phoned John Parris, to send 10 cues to his house in a taxi and chose the one that worked for him.
@@chrisjohnson4165 that's ronnie not Hendry. Go do your research. It was a cheap Rileys cue he used to win all his championships. He never got on with his John parris ones in the 2000s
Always loved how Hendry stamped his authority on a match. Ronnie is the most talented ever and the goat since the new millennium, but to me Hendry was the goat in the 90s.
Sinking a long, difficult red to start a frame winning break??? That was classic Hendry. His quiet self belief and mental strength bordered on insane levels. What a player he was.
Ppl forget and some who are too young just don’t realise how damn good Stephen hendry was , he is only challenged imo by Ronnie and yo untill maybe 5 years or so ago if of said Stephen was still the greatest but I have to admit Ronnies level and longevity means I can’t see how anyone could deny he’s the best of all time (modern day anyway) I think for me it goes Ronnie , hendry , Davis , alex Higgins , john Higgins for top 5
His cue action (and stance !) already changed a lot compared to the 1990's, it became more mechanical, slower... Of course he was still able to compile exceptional breaks like this, but the fluency and swagger he had in his earlier days were gone already. Still a great break though.
The difference is Ronnie did it flawlessly without needing plants, he created tap in for himself. Also, it’s Ronnie’s longevity that lifted him past Hendry.
@@PLayAshEFF72On longevity yes. But both playing at there best I’d take hendry all day long. No one in the history of the game can play better than hendry did against Ken in the uk open final NO ONE
Technically brilliant, but no theatre. No emotion. As a spectator it feels like watching an accountant using a calculator to do difficult sums. Its hard to put into words but its what Alex Higgins brought to the game, and Ronnie Osullivan still does. Steven Hendry couldn't pack arenas even if he got 147 every frame.
Absolute bollox of the highest order. Changed the game single handely never turned a shot down only played safely once his cue got snapped and his confidence went. Very much a genius like Ronnie. Invented the modern game off long red straight into the pack. Watch his 147 against Ronnie in that last frame in 97
no I actually agree with the comment. But in 2009 I think people wanted to see him play because he was no longer a force to be reckoned with. When he was dominant ppl hated him
Hendry potted these balls like they owed him money. One of the greatest champions of any sport in my lifetime.

He only lived till 2002 means 17 years while players like Ronnie played 30 years and have few more titles than him

The Greatest of all time, The king stephen Henry💪🏻👑🔥❤️
In the 90th it was much easier to
dominate now a days even 80 ranked can win a ranking tournament.

Stephen Hendry: definition of a *professional*

King of the Crucible

This is hendry not ronnie.
Hendry has done the maxi on Table 1 (right), Table 2 (left) and on the one-table situation.
Amazing and very hard 147, close to quit snooker.
👏👏👏
Great as usual.

A great champion
Wish he still plays today.
The GOAT
Rony O'Sullivan made the fastest 147, but this was the hardest and most tricky 147 I have seen so far.
Always 147's when the prize was at it's highest.
And in deciding frames in finals.
When the chips were really down Hendry was outstanding....
Good point, there was a lot more pressure when the stakes were so high
£157,000 for a maximum back in 2009, nowadays it’s about £15,000 for one at the world championship, where has all the money gone?
Maybe it's coz 147s are becoming more and more frequent lately.
@@sshakababy but they aren't, they was more frequent back then
It's gone to the ones who get knocked out in the early stages, they used to get basically nothing, now it's 20k (I think).

That final black was a near mirror image shot to the final black of his 147 against Jimmy White in the 1995 semi-finals.

£157k, not bad for 10 minutes work huh? I thought Steve Davis was a machine, but Hendry took it up a notch or 2.
no one will ever come close to ronnie and hendry

John Higgins number 3 for me.

You can tell how much this meant to him. By this stage in his career, he had to be happy with moments of greatness, instead of overall greatness.
Good to see that Peter Griffin found time in his busy schedule to get to the snooker at 2:36
Well more like 2:40
Master class
The ref called 47 for the 6th red weirdly
Sharp!👌🏻

amazing
Last black had a bit of a wobble, ive seen them rattle and not drop. Bet he was relieved when it did.
yeah theres a brief moment on his face where he went "OH SHIT IT WONT DROP"
Look at the middle pockets here compared to 2024 World Championships. These were the correct size! Why did they fuck about with them????

isn't it strange that there's more money in snooker now than there has ever been yet for doing a 147 these days you get zilch!
I miss those old Rileys silver leg tables. They need to bring them back and get rid of those cheap STAR tables!
Star tables are every bit as good as Riley - heck their top table is more expensive than the top Riley - they aren't cheap junk.
