- Go to petalcard.com/... to find out more and get started today! Thanks to Petal for sponsoring this episode. This week we put petals, a throttle, gas tank and battery tray into our RX7 Wankel rotary engine powered drift trike. We took the drift trike out for its first test drive and it is amazing! Fast loud and better than we thought it would be in any way!

Valid point.
I still think you should have solid steering linkage.
Atlease if one fails you dont lose all control like you do with the cable.
They don't have cable on steering, it is a thin rod linkage.
Not to mention that you take advantage of the Push-Pull dual action, instead of just pull.
Yeah, but it's Grind Hard, they don't care much about safety.
@@mtreis86 No, those are tensioned cables. They go over it in one of the previous videos.
@@JayRussellDuramax Ahh you're right, they started with a rod but changed it at some point
Misfiring still sounds like the spark timings out somewhere

you don't need to worry about lugnuts
I was gonna comment about that till I saw this lmao 🤣 I was waiting for him to be full throttle and see and wheel going in the opposite direction

If you think it's fast now, wait till it's running on 2 rotors lol.
It’s running soooo lean… and there using a 4 port intake gasket on a 6 port… hearing it running makes me cringe…
Wait what? That's gonna be a thing? Are they really planning on making it a 2 rotor? Sweet I didn't know but it makes sense and it will deff rip shit up fo sho
@@mazdaman85rx7 I know right! It hurts my fking soul to hear it sounding like it’s sick and crying out for help or something lol. Plus it sounds EXACTLY like a leaf blower right now too!

Footpegs need heel stirrups, because that set up is screaming broken ankles.
I ran myself over with a honda big red 200 so many times. I couldnt imagine the power of a healthy 13b in something that size. *We have lift-off*
@GT1Man I thought the same thing I can just see some sideways sliding and foot slip to foot under the wheel tearing the rider out the seat 😬😬 I'd have definitely made some running boards Or some heel stirrups like you said.
Bump
I had my feat go under the rear tire of my KTX700. Pulled several muscles. Getting under wheels of that thing will pull more than miscles...talking body parts!
Let’s keep bumping this to the top. I like y’all had the same Thoght. Stirrups, nets, or boards. One good bump, one jump, one corner a lil to hot and your gonna find a world of pain.

When I saw the 1st comment about this I had no idea he was driving it with just 2 lug nutz, so when I came across this comment I skipped ahead & he was sho nuff ripping it with 2 lugs on both sides.
two will be fine, its not heavy enough

Epic build. Good on you guys living the dream. I’ve been watching from New Zealand remembering all the drift trikes me and my mates built years ago and hit our mountain roads at night. Good times keep it up.
I would love to see this thing at a Cleetus McFarland drift night!
I was thinking the ideal place to test it would be the Freedom Factory as there would be plenty of space to test it on the burnout pad.
Very good idea
Yea but the same time they are on the outher side of the country
I would leave with a turbo on it lol!! This is a great idea! I love seeing UA-camrs coming together!!!!

The Hoonigan crew needs to see this. So good!
You mentioned in a previous video that there is some slop in the steering cables as it cycles through the steering. this is because the cables aren't perpendicular to the steering axis. as it cycles you introduce variance to the angle/length. try swapping the cables to the bottom the steering assembly at the handlebars. this will move the cable path downward and make it a lot closer to perpendicular, and should eliminate some of the slop.
And change the wires to solid rods....
@@mrolsen6987 solid rods would have to be pretty beefy to not bend on the push being that long… Ie I don’t think rods would add much benefit here without being massive…
@@benyvonnemckenzie6576
Since one rod is pulling there would't be so much push in the other, but it sure would take some slack away.
i think if you increase the length between the steering cables at the handlebar end you will find the steering easier but that aside, what a weapon guys. You never cease to amaze. Well done so far
iv had a few rotarys in my day sounds good wide open but sounds like its missing down low

Ahh. I remember my magic battery.
It came in a car I parted out. I used it to start everything and jump everything and used to come to the track to run the 12v air compressor for like 6 years. I bought and sold a car recently that had a good battery in it that had gone flat. I charged it up ready for the buyer to collect then left the ignition on like an idiot so it was flat.
So I say "I'll get my magic battery. It starts everything" Lo and behold, it was finally flat. And it stayed in the car when the buyer took it. I'm not sure if the replacement magic battery will be as good.
So put a Texas Longhorn rack on top of that upper triple-clamp!
That thing is badass guys. you guys have done a great job! I enjoyed seeing how it progressed into the beast that it is.
I would love to see the Vargas bro tune this bad boy!! Sick asf!
because the vargas bros are the only people who know how to tune rotarys?
The internet really failed people. There're probably thousands of people who know as much or more about rotary engines in between Idaho & Florida, many of them not 3k miles away...
Just because they aren't youtubers doesn't mean they don't exist.
Welded batter clamps - Bless You 'cause they drive me nuts too!
What he said.
Vargas brothers bout to have their kids driving these lmao
not sure if it was intentional but starting at the front port side is great because it looks like nothing. You can't really make out much of anything at all except it looks clearly trikey. And then you come around the side and all the bits of the trike are shown. The aesthetic of the tubing is perfect, hahaha. Like a slick industrial-themed ribbon on a "frankenstein creation" type mutilation of a car, and it is fantastic. Great way to start the video!
That rotary sounds so unhealthy... I really hope it doesn't break too quickly that thing looks like a monster

I've had an RX7 with an exhaust that was disconnected by the cat. I can only imagine how frick'n loud this thing is in person. I love it!

Edit: for some comparison a hi torque starter for a v8 is around 1.4kw
just giver bud
bro honestly no .. my battery in my rx7 is smaller than that lol rotaries only ruin batteries and starters when they have no compression
You need to get a mastercool flaring kit ,not huge money, can make any flare on any line ,fuel line quick connect ,brake double and bubble flare etc you'll love it!

Invest in a $6 brake line cutter from O'Reily's, using a cutoff wheel will cause leaks
They might in another 10 years or so
Maybe put a heel supports, sir ... sure don't wanna run your foot over
For sureee
Awesome guys!... and thus the "Dust Storm" is born!
Maybe add a roll bar and seat belt?
I feel like that front end/steering design would be sketchy
Only if a tie rod breaks lol. Heavier rods would be more redundant since they could push/pull. I'd prefer larger rods. But this setup should work good.
Just finding out about this channel, can't believe it hasn't come up in my recommended before. So stoked to go through all the content!
That is really cool! Now, make it street legal!😬

You definitely need to hit up the Vargas brothers and collab with them. They could make that thing run mint.

Sorry kid, this isn't tiktok, you aren't surrounded by morons....
You need a tubing cutter, your flaring results will be hit and miss with a rough cut tubing end. Also, I can't even tell you how many times I've flared a line and forgotten to put the nut on first lol.
Next y’all gotta make a mini version with a motorcycle engine
Pretty sure they already did. He built a smaller drift trike about a year ago.

RX7 trike? I think “WankTrike” would be much more appropriate ;-D
Good job remembering the brake line nut. Killer work as always.
This is one of the coolest big builds to date
Great builds! This one I think the foot peg assembly is asking for injury. If you were to wide to the mount for the pedal and put the peg on the inside with a support wrapping around the pedal going up to the too tubes you would essentially create a cage guarding your legs and keeping you from hooking your leg on something and really screwing yourself up.
If you add a bracket to the triple tree and put the cables outboard of the shocks it would turn easier and be more controllable.
Rotary engines are sensitive to exhaust tuning. Get a longer tube, equal length header on there and it will pick up a lot of power.
Sick build, hope you put two-stroke oil in the fuel if you haven't got the oil metering pump working your apex seals will thank you for it
9:05 you need a brake pipe cutter, by using an angle grinder you risk getting small splinters in the pipe and it can damage the rubber rings in the system
Once is tuned i recommend to put a roll bar behind the seat just in case.
I only just discovered your guys channel about a week ago and haven't been able to stop watching your videos.
