California, US zone 9 here- My neighbor has this tree on the back boarder and it’s a beauty to see from my yard. Didn’t know the name until now. It’s full of hummingbirds.

I have an arbutus and boy are they messy. I’m telling you you cannot walk anywhere near that tree while it’s dropping its fruit because you can’t get the fruit out of your shoes. I have to make a big round way trip around my garden to avoid it. It’s also very slippery so you have to be careful when you walk under it that you don’t fall.

oh no! I've just bought one and told my partner they'd be less messy than a regular fruit tree becuase the fruit won't all drop at once 🙈
