I’m a newbie to the Canna lilies’ family. I think they are beautiful and colorful flowers, and I’m excited about learning all that I can about them. I have a neighbor in a nearby town who has offered me some of her buds, and she has been educating me on how to even prepare my area (flowerbed) for them to be planted. However, I did not know about the process of winterizing them 😮😮. But I do now, your video was fantastic. Thank you! #hereinTexas
Thanks for this video. You mentioned cleaning off the tubers. How do you clean them off? And how do you separate them? Do you have a video that shows how you do this? I just dug my out of the ground and cut off the stems. And I’m looking to get them in the right place to overwinter them. Thank you.
@@Alexis-y4i3o for cleaning the tubers I just leave them to dry out a few days then just use my hands to brush off the dry soil. And snap off any tiny roots. For separating I usually just look for ones that have about 4-6 eyes then I break them into pieces that have 2 eyes each. I hope that helps. Thanks for watching.
I just bought a pack of 3 Canna (Black Night). Never seen them before and love the look of them. Thank you souch on how to reproduce them for the following year. 👍👍👍👍👍 Dundas, Ontario here.
I am in zone 6b which is London, Ontario. This year, I am trying something different. I am collecting the seeds. Tubers reproduce the same plant they came from. Seeds are all different. They will produce different coloured leaves and flowers. Unlike the tuber which will be an exact copy of the original plant.
They should be drying to a certain extent. We burn a wood stove from fall to spring in our garage and it gets pretty dry in there. I haven’t had any cannas “dry out” completely.
Thanks!!!!!🌸
You are so welcome!

Love Horseradish and what a beautiful lush garden you have
Thank you. We love being out there
This is great info thank you for this video. I just filed down some seeds and so I'm hoping next year I'll have a lot of tubers.
Best of luck!

Oooh. I did not know that about the different colours. Thanks for sharing!
@@Amandajackett Leave the green seeds on the plant. When they turn brown to black and split open, that is when you harvest the seeds.
How do you keep the canna bulbs from drying out over the winter while in newspapers?
