  • There seems to be some misinformation from Ford dealers regarding if it's possible to program multiple keyless entry keypads to a 2020 Ford Transit, or program any at all.
Seen in this video are details on how to program a keypad using FDRS (Ford dealer diagnostic software for select 2016+ vehicles, slightly different from IDS, but same basic concept).
This task cannot be done without diagnostic equipment. You can download FDRS and use it with a windows laptop and an appropriate J2534 passthrough interface. FDRS does require a subscription, cheapest is about $50 for 2 days.
    FORD DEALER TECHS:
    -use FDRS, not IDS.
-keypad programming is located under RTM (radio transceiver module), not BCM.
-max number of keypads that can be programmed is 4.
-keypad performance may be poor/inadequate on LWB cargo vans if installed on REAR cargo doors. Mine will consistently lock from that location but will not always unlock. The other 2 installed on the front doors work fine all the time, even with the engine on.
-use the 6 digit serial number, not the 48 digit hex code when prompted.
-master code is static and cannot be changed but a personal code can be set, and therefore multiple keypads installed on a vehicle can all be set to the same personal code.

Can you list the software and hardware interface that is needed . I couldn’t pick up what you said on the video .

hardware is an Autel J2534 interface. Software is Ford FDRS. You can download FDRS on a subscription basis ($50 for 2 days), it's something of a pain to get running as you have to set up a couple of different accounts but not too bad. don't have to use the Autel interface, it's just what I had. J2534 is a pretty generic interface, just make sure your computer has the correct drivers for whatever one you choose.

I’ve never used fdrs can you give us a walk through on how to reflash a module if there’s an update for the pcm?

This has been over a year, but a reflash would be downloading and running the Configuration app for whichever module you needed to 'reflash'. This reprograms the module using AS-BUILT data. If you want to update a module, you will download and run the Software Update app for whichever module you wanted to download. If there is no software update available, then that module is at its latest software level.
