Yemen is often portrayed in the media as a country engulfed in conflict, humanitarian crises, and political instability. The narrative surrounding Yemen frequently highlights the devastating effects of the civil war that escalated in 2015, leading to one of the world’s worst humanitarian situations. Reports often focus on the staggering statistics of civilian casualties, the millions affected by famine, and the cholera outbreak, which has affected countless lives. The portrayal is often stark and dramatic, emphasizing the need for urgent international aid and intervention. While the media coverage sheds light on the suffering of the Yemeni people, it may also inadvertently contribute to a one-dimensional view of the country. Yemen is rich in history and culture, with a diverse heritage encompassing ancient civilizations, stunning architecture, and unique traditions. However, these aspects are often overshadowed by the narratives of war and desperation. In this video series, I want to focus on the stories of hope, resilience, and the everyday lives of Yemeni people amidst the chaos. These vlogs aim to give a more balanced portrayal that respects the humanity and agency of those living in Yemen rather than solely focusing on their suffering.
