Amazing video. One of my faves. Even though I dig Rock and Roll Heart more than you, the way you described the album and every song was totally on point. Interestingly I never had a problem with the sequencing and that's something I'm usually pretty sensitive to. I wonder if the next time I listen to it, I'll be more aware of it. For me the album flows like a loose and frantic after hours jam session. Like what the band might do with the standards after the straights left the establishment. It sounds like this is even more the case with the live performances, which I'll be checking out sooner than later. And yeah, "Temporary Thing" IS the best song on the album (and I think one of Reed's greatest songs period). "Heaving inevitability" for sure. After hearing it for the first time, it recontextualized the entire album for me, so even the potboilers had a dark and foreboding quality: all roads leading to "Temporary Thing" in which Reed is going to take every kiss and self-deprecating quip and throw them out in the alley with the rest of the thrash. As a result, Street Hassle and The Bells become the only possible destination. I'd love to hear your do an entire video breaking down Take No Prisoners at some point. I can only imagine the numerous paths that would take you on....!!
Awesome! More Lou Reed talk to help me weather the storm…!!
Happy Birthday, stay safe, and I hope I can help pass a few hours!!
This was fantastic.
Thank you so much!!
Mammoth effort really enjoyed it. Will make an effort to check out that Garland Jefferies
Thank you very much, I greatly appreciate it!
I know this album for around 45 years now and always had mixed feelings about it. It seemed to be not finished or but together in a hurry. But if I listen to just one track most of them sound like the best things Lou had done.
Everytime I hear „I believe in Love“ Louis Jordan’s „I believe in Music“ comes to my mind - but maybe it is just because both songs swing like hell and have a similar title… (?)
That's such a great connection!! I wouldn't have thought to make it! I will check out both back to back!
