Ventrac Flail Mower VS Tough Cut VS Finish Cut

- With several different mower options that Ventrac has to offer, we get a lot of questions to which one best fits my application. In this video we go over the all new Flail mower, the long lasting, top selling, tough cut mower, and the side discharge 72" finish mower all in the same application. There are several other mowers to choose from, these just being some of the most commonly used and sold. Andy (Ventrac territory Rep) gives us a walk around of each unit, explains its uses and best application and we put them to the test.

They did not do side by side. They did not use the flail on the stuff in that dish with the brush and saplings and they didn’t even show the close up of the job it did. Lame comparison

I removed my message out of respect to the OP video maker. He did a great job with the Video.
My 4500z hasn’t been trouble free. I bought mine a few weeks before the 4520 came out. Then had issues that left me very frustrated and almost 2 season of partial use. Thankfully, all seems ok so far. I do wish I was offered the flail to replace my finish mower after seeing my issues but… that where a good dealer comes in. This video was spot on. Ventrac is a great product. It’s upper crust for sure for home owners. We have 100 yards of 26 degree slope that 20 feet tall, all finish grass. The - huge area of jungle that a tough cut would be great. One day!

Great job providing very important information for a potential buyer. I compared a fast cut flower to a tough cut a few weeks ago in really high thick hay. The Tough Cut was barely moving along but the Fast Cut Flail probably tripled the Tough Cuts speed and cut much cleaner. But for really rough rocky terrain with high woody material the Tough Cut is definitely the right weapon.

Man I bet if you put some Kavli Finisha blades on the finish deck it would do even better. Great comparison of all 3!
The fast flail was just right for this grass, though the finish deck left nice stripes.

When I enquired if Ventrac had a flail mower they indicated they didn't need one. However, this flail mower doesn't do what other flail mowers do. That is take down grass, and small trees leaving a fine material behind.
Thanks for the comment! They actually offer 2 different ones and with different teeth. This was the fast cut, the fine cut would do a little more of which you are talking about. We are glad they decided to bring it to market.

You should have even included your other mower types like the 95 inch version or the one with the reels just to really show the difference in all your different types of mowers instead of just 3 only but nonetheless thanks for the video.

Really nice video. Thank you. For a very steep hill that we want to mow 3-4x per year (in PA) would you recommend the Flail deck or the Bush deck and would you add caster wheels or not?
Thank you for the comment! We would say if it is thick and builds up quick maybe that flail, but if it’s just thick grass and your mowing that often we would say the tough cut would be the best options for what your saying. They actually come with the front wheels as well. Thanks

Hey thanks for the comment!! Yeah those decks are quite heavy, but they do offer a hydraulic deck lift on just about all mowers. And yes you did- Ventrac just came out with the new tough cut mower with that!

personally if you are to get the tough cut I would get the hydraulic deck for ease of moving the deck in case of a stump

Can you change the blades on the flail mower?
Like change them from the Y to the flat blade?

Yeah I think we are going to work to do a video of its own. Have a few new ideas with some new tractors and equipment coming out. As you know with inventory shortages this past year we were lucky to have all 3 of these at the same time. Thanks for the sub as well! :)
What do you recommend for Hilo Hawaii orchard which has tall grass and is always wet. Rains a lot here. Would love to be able in the rain if possible.

I just have a very small pasture that is relatively flat but can be very thick, weedy & sometimes rocky in places. It's less than 2 acres. What size Ventrac would you recommend & what type mower?
We would say we could look at several options and different types of equipment for you, but if you are thinking a Ventrac specific we would say the 4520P Kawasaki with the rough cut mower would be the best option for you. Especially if it’s thicker and lots of weeds. Hope that helps. Are you located near us in the Shenandoah valley Va at all? They actually do have a cab for it and it’s quite nice!! This video shows it as well in action with snow, but the model is a KW452.

@@BeverageTractor I'm sure the people up north really appreciate that. I live in the south and was looking for some a/c. Now that I see that one, I don't think it would be worth the loss of how much of an incline it could handle with the weight added so high on the machine.
@@justinrumbley3665 understandable. It is great for winter.We are in VA so our snow isn’t like those up north either where this is sold and installed more frequently. As far as weight and hills you are right, it would change that, although still can do amazing compared to other options. But..yes just like any tractor that has a cab makes that center of gravity and weight of tractor different. All about your application and what is best! Thanks for the comment and conversation
Could you use the flail mower then finish mower? Just wondering if that would be a proper way.
Yeah you could. You could use the fine cut one and then go over with finish to get that clean cut. It may take a time or two to really get it groomed, but once cut down and maintained it would look good!

How well do they handle on hills and slopes?
Exactly what they are made for! They do just as well on flat grown as they do on hills and slopes. Throw some dual wheels on and able to go 30 degree hills. Thanks for the comment and hope that helps!

A tractor with a trimax flail would rip through that effortlessly also at a much greater speed , but I can see this ventrac machine has it uses
The belts always break on these machines. We have one for a golf course and we will be returning it
Bummer and sorry to hear that. Thanks for the comment. We don’t typically tend to see too many issues with the belts on these. Since they are belts they do break but nice they can be replaced and have one or two on hand. I would check with your local dealer, if it’s that bad, they may be able to help in all of that for sure!
Interesting, my Ventrac is 4 years old with over 1200 hours with most of those hours using the contour mower (many belts) and I've never replaced a single belt.
Belts have not been an issue for my Ventracs, however we tore thru them on the Steiners the 430 s eat belts compared to the Ventrac. There could be an alignment issue with the double idler pulley or an operator not using it properly overloading the attachment.

My problem with this tractor is pto or lack off
Thanks for the comment! We understand. Which tractor do you have? Depending on applications and use, some engines can do better than others. There are a few options on engine selection and we usually try to help recommend the best for the application and use it will be in!
@@BeverageTractor thank you for replying i like the idea of the tractor id love to see the option of a rear pto that i could use the implements i already have but as it stands with just a belt drive and lack of options it makes the tractor a 1 trick pony
@@noelcahill6707 thanks for your reply. You can get 3pt hitch kit for implements but of course no PTO. The front mount, with a ton of implement options and a wide variety of tools makes this one of the most versatile tractors on the market. But one thing we like about Ventrac is that they are always open to suggestions and making changes and perfecting their product! :)

I would say if you need the rear PTO and that’s mainly what you would need a tractor for, then a regular 4WD tractor would ultimately be best option for your application/needs. The Ventrac is very versatile and brings opportunity especially for those hilly terrains. We are Kubota dealer as well, so I can understand what you mean. 1-й даже куски асфальта для него не критичны.
2-й и 3-й большой вынос ножей по закону рычага ножи сломаются и возможны травмы рикошетом. Фильм Газонокосильщик - это про них.
