Ruby 1915 the personification of "Your results may vary."
like all guns it's always the users fault
@@ommsterlitz1805mine was literally assembled with a hammer too big and it refuses to disassembled. It was still stamped with a French seal of approval
Mae is amazing, she can explain the history of a gun in only 1 minute.
For a cheap emergency handgun, the Ruby's actually quite nice if you have a good one and can get around .32. The trigger on mine is pretty good, I'm not surprised companies like Astra and Star kept the trigger system for their later designs.
I'm curious what you mean by "get around .32"? Since the handling is pretty good, do you either mean the availability or the lower power?
@@Goodroosters The latter. My minimum for an acceptable cartridge is .380, anything lower than that and the gun itself has to be pretty good to make up for it (usually with either an unusually good design or high capacity). As you say, the Ruby handles well, and I rather like the design (I prefer exposed hammers so I can decock, but it's not a dealbreaker and the postwar Unique 17 has me covered).
Another example would be the Savage 1907. It's also in .32 (ignoring the .380 version since that was never sold to France), but it has 10 rounds and a really nice trigger, so I'm willing to overlook the capacity. Other (postwar) examples include the FN 1910/22, the MAB Model D, and the Hamada Type 1.
On the other hand, the Jager pistol only holds 7 rounds, the trigger is ass, and the design is not very comfortable, so I would not consider it a good combat handgun. There's nothing about it that's redeeming.
@@GoodroostersI would say the power of the round to me, there is a reason why when they ranked the simiauto handguns of WW1 they did not count any of the 32s.
@tenofprime that, and most of the .32s were blowbacks when most of the guns they rated were locked breech handguns more suitable for martial use.
As soon as I see it's a minute with Mae, I'm clicking and watching. Doesn't matter what kind of gun she's shooting, it's going to be interesting and fun to watch.
Thanks Mae!
exactly! I think we all have a minute for Mae, and watching her react to various weapons is fun, gotta love her smile and wink down the sights!
The best part is we already have MoMs on the Ruby (and the French 1892), meaning we know we're going to see more repeats. Which is perfectly fine, because some of those repeats are guns I'd love to see again.
My great grandfather had one of these, it passed to my grandfather (maternal) and now to me.
I had my cop buddy look at it and try to clean it and he saw some 90 year old crud he couldn't clean in the barrel, so he suggested if we ever wanted to fire it to take it to a proper gun smith.
Honestly i think we might just get it mounted for display.
What? You can't take a dental pick and remove it?
There's no 90 year old crud that won't come out.
@@davidcoudriet8439 we couldn't find a .32 cal brush and ran out of time to work on it.
Mum! Did you wash my 1911?
Mum: Yes, why?
You've shrunk it!
As soon as I saw the notification for another episode I clicked instantly. Bonus points because it was about one of my favourite guns
Its amazing how the war consumed weapons as well as people.
Heh, cat ear pistol
🐈🐈⬛️😺🐱😸
Genuinely love my Ruby. Such a fun gun to shoot, such an interesting history. Also back in the day this pistol used to be awesome in the attrition gamemode on Verdun. (no one plays that gamemode anymore)
The re-release for this one was the best episode rework you've done yet! Huge amounts of information about the fascinating history of a seemingly uninteresting pocket pistol.
I have one and it works quite well.
👍 To be expected. I suspect most of the survivors are the better quality pistols.
Well done Mae
I spent all day yesterday waiting for my weekly Minute of Mae. Thank you for bringing it.
Nice remake on the Minute of Mae video on this pistol, a definite improvement.
My French early contract Ruby has a 20 or something pound trigger pull. Really bad.
That's not a trigger pull, that's a trigger HEAVE.

YES
Bros finger is gonna be Mike Tyson
Mae looks great wearing a Ruby.....
Neaat video, as alwys. "We averaged our sizes over three different samples." Whoo boy! The Ruby sounds like the very definituin of 'Cheap n' cheerful.'
The Zippo lighter of guns.
Sounds more like the Bic lighter.
Very nice form factor - the pistol too! LOL! BTW: .32 ACP? Still around after +100 years! Our boy John Browning sure got around the patent offices with his various ammo types. Bless him!
The Ruby! "Possibly Good!"
Great Job Mae 🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
WOAH! 😮
That is one beautiful gun other than 1911
Owned one made by “Astra” supposedly, whole gun made with files by hand, 100% reliable after 100 years and over 1K rounds thru it. Miraculous how well it worked with the magazine made of car door and copper plate piano wire. Probably the best $150 I’ve spent on a pistol
Good morning, ae, the couple I have bummed into at the ranges were obviously poor examples. Because if something was going wrong with them it did. Great video. Still awaiting the Zombie apocalypse to be issue with whatever you have. Cheers
Love these Minute of Mae segments. Well done!!
Thank you - what a kool pistol!💯💥👍!
32 ACP still a formidable cartilage
No you shouldn't ever use 32 ACP as cartilage
@@Mathos93 , unless you're Bond, James Bond 😊
It was probably okay in WW1 when the average soldier was around 5'5 and 110 lbs
It'll be funny if there is a BF1 animation where after emptying the Ruby, you just toss it out to pull out another one!
She smiled...
Shooting with one hand is crazy but cool pistol.
The pinnacle of firearms quality. Nothing made after have ever managed to meet its standard.
“Hey can I copy your homework”
“Yeah but don’t make it obvious”
Whoot whoot
Chuck it grab another ha
👍👍👍
One minute exactly.
My great grandmother had one of those that came to America from the WW1. I am not sure which of my relatives brought it home.
Hermosa 😊😊😊
Visions of Mae in the trenches in France giving the Kaiser what for.
Very favoritable weapon for the French.
Ruby love.
The BiC lighter of pistols - possibly less dependable.
👍
Wow, a gun that old that still works and is also just small enough for Conceal Carry!? Nice. 😍
Do you know where I might be able to find parts for the Ruby 1915? Mine is missing the safety and possibly whatever it is supposed to be attached to on the inside.
I don't think anyone created any stockpile of parts since there'd be no guarantee they'd fit another workshop's Ruby. Advertise on gun sites, maybe someone has a wreck/wallhanger you could cannibalize.
@@johncoffin9354 Thank you.
try SARCO
I saw a few of these on gunbroker and have been tempted as they were under $400, they certainly have some WW2 history with germans and french resistance. I may have to get one with my C&R FFL.
The best pistol in single action. Copy for Pietro Beretta, Colt, Sig Sauer, Hafdasa, Star, Astra and more countries. Patent of Pedro Careaga Galagarza -vasco spanish-
This pistol is amazing in Battlefield 5
Sad that the trench pocket weapon does not see any action in Battlefield 1
You say Ruby I think Jack ...
👌🏻👍
At first glance, seems like a decent alternative to the American competition from Savage and Colt of the time. Not in love with the whole heel release or .32 ACP.
What does “light, but a bit gritty” even mean for a trigger?
I think this was the only type of firearm the French police were allowed to carry during Nazi occupation during WWII.
Want one ,! Nice throw+away ! Male that a dozen !
As jank as its origin story is, a 9 shot semi auto is pretty damn good for WW1.
I think Mae is my new crush😮

Can I have a 1911,S&W or Colt or webly revolver? No? I'll take a .32 auto. I own Beretta tomcat and model 81. Can't always carry 1911,security six or n frames.
Mae is cute!!!

Nice pice
Guns are machines. Machines are made by engineers. Engineers use metric. Use Metric.
None of that "inches" or "pounds" nonsense
Yo soy aprendis de matriceria y obviamente usamos reglas métricas , Esa porqueria de libras o pulgadas solo la usan los ee.uu. 🙄🙄 🤦🏼♂️🤦🏼♂️
