I used to be sooooo lost when it comes to toning balayage. So if you feel this way, I want to help you not overcomplicate it and give you some simple shades you can use if your balayage looks brassy!
I also include some really important tips on toning so you can avoid stressing about what formula to use! so make sure to watch until the end!

You are an absolute godsend, thank you! I balayage my own hair and normally use Schwarzkopf Blondeme for lifting to a level 9, but I ran out of it and planned poorly when I was doing my hair this last go around. I caved and went to Sally's and got the ion bleach because I wasn't patient enough to wait for the shipping from ordering Schwarzkopf online. The ion bleach only lifted to a level 7-8 on the mid sections of hair and I didn't want to deal with trying to only lighten the mid sections. I just so happen to have some shades EQ 09V on hand. I'm definitely going to try the 09P next time based on what you said in the video. This video had exactly the info I needed, thank you so much for making it!

I am a natural 5-6 with a ton of gold. I lift to an 8-9 (using Redken Flashlift w/30% Developer), but have been too impatient to order and wait for Shades EQ to arrive (I do my hair on a whim), so I end up getting Wella and never have great results. And no, it's not T18. Haha. I try to go with beige blonde (T15, T35) and it looks better, but I never love it. I have wanted to use Shades EQ vs. Wella for ages, but wanted more info. Thanks for the information!
P.S. Joico makes a "Color Balance Blue Shampoo" for orange. I used to lighten my hair in stages to avoid damage and would use it during the orange weeks and wasn't impressed (thank God for wigs). I am not a fan of purple shampoo (too drying for me) unless it is TIGI Catwalk Fashionista Violet Shampoo. It smells fantastic and makes your hair super soft.
Hi! So I’ve had my hair balayaged & my natural color is around a 2 at the roots. I lifted to about a level 8 & had my hair toned. Without going to the salon, I’m trying to just tone the brass in my hair at home. Some highlights are light still, some are yellowish & some are orange. What mixture should I use since my roots are so dark??? 🙏🏼❤
If I use shades eq 10n with 10gi would it be a icy color if I did it to refresh my blonde? DIY home bleaching and toning here!

Hey there, I tend toward natural and creamy, there is some warm and some cool as well!
I used 30v on a 6n shade hair , bleach was wells blonder multi( w blue base) was on the longest recommended time and only the root area stayed orange the rest was yellow w hint of orange . Is it just because it bled or is it that I need diff bleach , can I use 20 v ? I’m DYI and don’t want to mess it up! Or stick w 30.
Hi Lauren... Love ur videos. I've used a high lift and it's gone light orange and the grey in my hair has slight yellow tinge. I was a base 4. What redken eq gloss do I need to cancel the orange etc. I would like to have a ashy colour. Thanks. X

Hi Lauren , love you channel!!! Can you help me …I’ve started getting some white hairs and decided to do my roots I’m a level 6 I used a 6nn & 8Ag and my roots lifted and turned orange gold. I would like to just go back to a level 6 cool . I think I’m over thinking it but I have 5n 6n 6na and 6t 7n &7p lol can you help me please any suggestions🥺💖
Hiii randomly seeing this comment and I'm sure you've figured out something by now, but I just wanted to share my similar experience, 6t was the bomb for actually covering all warm tones!

Bleach again with 10 vol, low and slow. I love the shades EQ GRO series. They make beautiful strawberry blondes. You can add other shades to it but I always add these
In beauty school, we were taught to lift to a level 9/10 and to be patient. Patience always pays off. But, my school wasn’t really into toning that much. They believed in getting to a nice clean lift so you didn’t have to really worry about toning. So that training has paid off. 😉 thanks for the toner training though! Shades eq is good stuff!
What do you mean, leave the bleach longer or repeat?
That’s not realistic in the world. Learn how to tone properly.
@@tinaredd6858 it is realistic if you charge for your time and are patient. Patience always pays off especially if you want good hair.
Hi can you use 9b at the root?
I guess it depends on what you are trying to do but if you see orange... 9b will help!
if even the level 9 might make the hair look a bit darker, is it possible to use a 10P instead?
10p is not as pigmented so it would be best for lighter levels! Usually brass is your level 7 orange that’s why I would use a 9 there!

I don’t color my hair anymore but at the time I had maybe 6 inches of grow out? I don’t remember but the ends would be faded kenra 6n. Not shades eq because I was covering gray.
So what do I do if My client is a natural level 3/4 and I balayaged her to a level 7 ish and then she wanted to go lighter so I went back and balayaged to a level 8/9 but there’s still some spots of 7 mixed in how do I tone so those level 7 pieces look more uniform to the the 8/9 levels? Because she loves the 8/9 they’re the perfect color but the level 7 is still brassy but I don’t want to then have the lighter pieces over tone.
I use 2 toners! Tone for lvl 7 at the base and 8/9 at the ends. Shades eq melts together really easily.

Exactly what I thought. Same level for toning and she said for level 6 + 7 use a 9🤷🏻♀️
And I've always been told "A level 9B will do nothing for a brassy level 6.You have to tone at level." What do you say about that?
That’s correct a level 6 is going to have a lot of red so the base of 9b is blue gray. Blue will cancel orange which is the exposed pigment at a level 7 so levels other than 7 orange it will not work for. You want something with green & blue. ❤️
Question - I've bleached my dark hair to about a level 6/7/8 (different sections). I want to be strawberry blonde but right now it's too brassy/yellow. I want to tone the brassiness down but I obviously want to remain warm. I don't want to turn a cool or ash blonde. How should I go about this? Please & thank you 🙏 ❤️
Hey there! Those levels are a big range. So I would stick to getting everything to a level 8. At a level 8 there is gold but it is a good base for any strawberry blonde color you choose to put on.
@@LaurenFrancesHair tysm for answering! I should have mentioned, I'm going for multi dimensional SB with highlights, lowlights, and a smudge root. What's the difference bn gold and yellow? Do I have to strip yellow to reach gold? Am I better off depositing these tones with a toner rather than trying to work with the natural warmth that comes from bleaching? It's quite confusing! Sry for so many questions
really? but from my studying i thought the number is what level it lifts too? so if a level 7 ..shouldnt you be using like 6 or 7 b? why a 9 b? or have i been using it wrong thats why i cant seem to get it right ?

You aren’t using a it wrong! That’s correct. However in this line level 9b is a highly pigmented and very cool shade. Cool colors appear much darker. This is why I would use a 9b.

I am brunette I got bayalage, when I use blue shampoo my highlights get khaki!!! Horrible greenish color
because your highlights are likely more yellow or gold than orange. I would try purple shampoo instead to cancel out the yellow brassiness. if there's still orange after that, then you could try using purple shampoo first and then blue conditioner so that the blue has no yellow to mix with and turn green

Tone on level yes! But some colors appear darker because of their coolness!

Something about your device’s speakers (or headphones) must be malfunctioning. I can barely hear the background music and her voice is very clear.
