Celles qui vont au bois
C'est la mère et la fille
La mère va chantant
Et la fille soupire
Qu'a-vous à soupirer,
Ma fille Marguerite ?
J'ai bien grande ire en moi
Et n'ose vous le dire
Je suis fille le jour
Et la nuit blanche biche
La chasse est après moi
Et les barons et les princes
Et mon frère Renaud
Qui est encore bien pire
Allez ma mère, allez
Bien promptement lui dire
Qu'il arrête ses chiens
Jusqu'à demain midi
Où sont tes chiens Renaud
Et ta chasse gentille ?
Sont dedans le bois
A courre blanche biche
Arrête les Renaud
Arrête les, je t'en prie
Trois fois les a corné
Avec son cornet de cuivre
Mais à la troisième fois
La Blanche biche est prise
Mandons le dépouilleur
Qu'il dépouille la biche
Celui qui la dépouille
Dit : je ne sais qu'y dire
Elle a le cheveu blond
Et le sein d'une fille
A tiré son couteau,
En quartiers il l'a mise
En ont fait un banquet
Pour les barons et les princes
Nous voici tous assis
Hors ma soeur Marguerite ?
Vous n'avez qu'à manger
Suis la première assise
Ma tête est en dans le plat
Et mon cœur aux chevilles
Mon sang est répandu
Par toute la cuisine
Et sur vos noirs charbons
Mes pauvres os y grillent
Those who go to the woods
It is the mother and the daughter
The mother goes singing
and the daugher sighs
Why do you sigh so,
My daugher Marguerite ?
I have much wrath in me
And dare not tell you
I am a girl by day
And by night a white doe
The hunt is after me
And the barons and princes
And my brother Renaud
Who is even worse
Go mother, go
Quickly tell him
To stop his hounds
until tomorrow noon
Where are your hounds Renaud ?
And your gentle hunt ?
(They) Are in the woods
hunting the white doe
Stop them Renaud
Stop them I beg you
Three times he horned them
with his copper horn
But on the third blow
The white doe is taken
Let us command the skinner
That he skins the doe
The one who skins her
Says : I don't know what to say
She has fair hair
And the breast of a girl
(He) drew his knife
In quarters he cut her
Made a banquet of it
For the barons and princes
Here we all sit
Except my sister Margerite ?
You only have to eat
I am the first to sit
My head is in the dish
And my heart at my ankes
My blood is spilled
All over the kitchen
And on your black coals
My poor bones are roasting
