I'm a 51 year old white dude who saw Hammer in concert in 1990 or '91 in Kansas City. I wore Hammer pants and had my hair cut like Vanilla Ice who opened for Hammer along with En Vogue. Thank you, Cliff, for reacting to this! Love it!!
MC Hammer, Vanilla Ice and En Vogue! Living the dream dude! I would have loved to have been there! 😁
Bro I’m 43 and I had friends whose older brothers wore these parachute pants at home 😂
...and Mexicans, Indians, etc., grandmas and babies were at his concerts
@@calme-dx2dp yeah, but did they have they hair like Vanilla Ice?
I saw him in Munich. What a concert!! Great performer!!!
Everyone knew who MC Hammer was and knew this song no matter what genre of music they normally listened to.
To fully understand the full energy and impact Hammer had back in the day, you've got to react to the almost 15 minute version of 2 Legit 2 Quit.
Oh my, I'm just now reminded of that song, and now it's in my head lol. Yep, this'd be a great one, dooo eeeeeet!
I agree
I still have this cassette. Yes, cassette haha.
When they started playing that full video on Mtv, it brought me back to the Thriller days. The amazing and long music videos done with high quality.
@@Berto2KAnd it has the song he did for Addams Family sequel on it ;)
It was so huge at the time if you find anyone now who lived through the 90's as teen, you say "STOP!" you always get back a "HAMMER TIME!" XD
“Collaborate and Listen! “
In the name of love
I'm a broken 90s child
lol I have colleagues from my era still doing that!
MC Hammer's iconic parachute pants
Yeah, I hope they never come back in style 😂
Boney M`s iconic parachute pants.

I had completely forgotten the wearing of bike shorts as day wear lmao. I think I repressed it because “spandex is a privilege not a right” - Cereal Killer (Hackers)
Cliffy wanting to ‘know who that is? 🤤’ not thinking about the fact he’s probably pointing at someone’s Grandma…
I was reading this comment as he said it 😂
🤣🤣🤣
I'm not this grandma - Still feeling very old now😅
Haha, yup- she was maybe a decade younger than me back then... And I am 63 and have grandbabies from almost 4 to 19 now LOL.
But I look better the last 15 years than I did as a stressed out working Mom and wife back then, so there's that 💁💃
@@seaneendelong8065 I’m a young whippersnapper at 50… remember thinking she was the only thing I liked about this video! 😂
Go you for kickin it more now than back then… I am on a similar story arc! 🕺
All our dances were aerobic!😂😂😂
Mostly everyone was leaner then too
Let's not forget that part of what made this song great, catchy and memorable was the awesome bass line, which was sampled from the Rick James song "Super Freak". You should really check out that song, too.
Yeah, definitely. Super freak is ten times better than this.
@hipsville is it bad that my 5 Yr old loves Superfreak 😂
Sampling is stealing.
Only if they understand the lyrics.😉@@paulinerobertson6836
I'm not too proud to admit that I never realized they were the same bass line 'til you pointed it out, despite having loved both songs since I was just a kid. XD
Now, picture all those people dancing on stage at the same time! If you can't, you should see the video of him performing on the Arsenio Hall Show. It was insane! 😁
Memory unlocked !!! I totally remember this!!!
We lived for the arsenio hall show!!!!!!!!!🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉 great guests and talent. The one dud interview was with miles Davis, the king of jazz. Arsenio didn’t book other guests because Miles was that special, so when Miles turned out to be an impossible guy to interview, a man of few words, arsenio was faced with a full hour of trying to squeeze conversation out of Miles, the icon. It was SO UNCOMFORTABLE to watch!!!!!!! Excruciating!!!!!! 🎺
White, black and brown...we rocked this in N.Y.!😁
No we didnt your a liar....
Same in Atlanta.
And in Cali!
Before cell phones dancing was way more important than it is today, people were less self conscious, at school you wanted to be the one who knew all the moves from the videos
The dance is called the typewriter. If you weren’t doing this while the song was on the radio, what were you really doing with your life. 😂😂😂
I used to do the typewriter while yelling “You can’t touch this!” in front of the tv while my brother was playing duck hunt. 🤷🏽♀️
Chinese typewriter?
Thank you. Did not know the dance was called the typewriter. Learn something new everyday.
I was raving with everyone else
😂😂😂
that's so perfect lmao.. I used to cruise around w my aunt and yell, "Stop!" (pause for her to stop the car) "HAMMER TIME!"
Who needs to sweat in a gym for an hour when you can dance to this one song and sweat just as much 😂😂😂
We loved him in 🇬🇧
Check out MC 'Too Legit to Quit' with PSY 'Gangnam Style' at the AMA's...great collab!
Well, I'm going to that right now.
Okay, I remember that now. I bet Psy surprised everyone with his dance skills, keeping up with Hammer. Still going strong, too ("That, That").
I remember when he splashed onto the scene 💯 everyone wanted him to do a dance off with Michael Jackson
At the time, I read an interview at the time with Hammer said he danced better than Michael jackson. Challenge on!
Those parachute pants and loud colors…late 80’s/ early 90’s style… I rocked the late 80’s/early 90’s permed big hair, Jody Watley hoop earrings, big wide elastic belts with the huge gold buckles and the short crop shirts with leggings or parachute pants… this song brings back some college party memories….
Damn we were fun!!
Genie
Same!! This song brought back all the nostalgia from my college days. It was played at every single party. Good times!
the age of neon
A lot less screens and tech around, we had to go out and create the entertainment ourselves. Fun times.
There was a short period in the early 90s where we had a MC Hammer cartoon where one of his powers was parachuting with his pants.
I owned like 10 pairs of Hammer pants. They were comfortable af

My husband and I are white and in our seventies and we loved MC Hammer back in the day. We danced around when he came on MTV and Much Music and our young teens cringed with embarrassment. 😂
Big fun watching this again, thanks! If you havent given Salt n Pepa a try, I highly recommend!
Both MC Hammer's track and Rick James original song 'Super Freak' that the sample came from were dance songs. Back in the late 70s I danced myself breathless to Super Freak many times. Do your self a favor and check out the Rick James original.
As Rick James pointed out at the time, this was more than a sample. MC Hammer had to add Rick James to the songwriting credits and give him a share of the profits.
@@bobhoffman9848 Yeah, the whole groove of Can't Touch This is lifted directly from Super Freak, for sure.
Back in the day we dove to hit record on the vcr when this came on and then replay it over and over to learn the dance. Same with vanilla ice.
MC Hammer the real OG one of the most Gangster of rappers in the Industry , you should check out the stories of Hammer backing down rappers who dissed him .
But he really, really sucked at rapping. I don't know anyone that considered him an OG, and I was a teenager when this dropped. He was the corniest of all the rappers and nobody that was into rap had this in their stereo except as a joke.
Alot of people gave him sh!t for being corner but he was more gangster than alot of the other rappers at the time. Look up the stories from real o.g.'s talking about hammer.
That's funny ....I had just commented to Cliff ... to look up the stories that Redman has about Hammer! 😂😂😂
@@DirtyMoneyHipHop nah man he was an OG loc. He handled his business regardless of public image.
Loved Hammer! So much fun! ...I think you just called me old. LoL! Well, songs like this are why our knees now hurt all the time. Teehee
WAIT…Which parties are you attending?!??!? I feel like this song is played in at least 95% of parties, events, clubs, bars, weddings, baptisms, graduations, any gathering with a dance floor at any time of the night, still to this day!! And everybody, all ages love it! It’s very present in our culture so I was surprised that you haven’t heard it in years! ❤
Omg 🤣🤣🤣 ROFLMFAO
This was one of my first albums lol... MC Hammer is an icon lol❤️🔥❤️🔥❤️🔥
Much love and mad respect #McHammer and #CliffBeats❤️❤️
Hip hop was in my hood. I still remember my older brother doing this dance when we we're little and him telling me I wasn't as good as him 😂 🕺
Iconic. His "Pray" would make for a great reaction as well!
I always like that song the best! Great groove!!!
This song was so huge. It appealed to everyone. My 40s year old white overweight accountant dad loved it. When MC Hammer was recording his follow up album, he and his security guards closed off our high school track for a while one day so he could exercise. Our high school was half way between Prince’s Paisley Park (Chanhassen, MN) and the real Graffiti Bridge (Eden Prairie, MN)
80's and early 90's was a great time for music
Lol lol lol love the Hammer... thank you for your reaction 😁👍❤
This music is what kept me in shape at the dance clubs lol. Thanks for the memories! ❤️
**facepalm** The best bit was "I thought he was dancin on his knees." Oh my god. Now that I've seen it that way with your comment, I can't unsee it, and it's amazing. I can't stop laughing. This was huge when I was in middle/high school & while the music was great, I'm glad Hammer Pants aren't a thing anymore. Yikes.
Junior High!!! Born 1980. The back bend, the running man... He was known for signature moves. CANT TOUCH THIS!!!
TOO LEGIT TO QUIT, James Brown baby!
If you didn't know, the lyric at the beginning of the song: "Super Dope homeboy from the O town" refers to Oakland, California, which is right next to San Francisco. It's always great to hear your own home town called out in a hit song like this.
The Typewriter, classic dance move!!!
This was definitely my generation. I used to love to dance when I was young (and as an adult I became a belly dancer/burlesque dancer and took classes in hip hop and modern, etc, till I became disabled/chronically ill/mostly bed bound).
🥺🥺🥺🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽 I hope you can find help or relief somewhere. You look way too young to have those challenges.
Just for fun, consider watching gonstead trained Dr Ian in Melbourne, Dr Rahim in Los Angeles. Also Dr Alex Tubio in Houston, Dr cipriano in NC, and the current doctor who does the “ringdinger.” He might be in Houston also.
Saw him live in glasgow with snap in support
MC Hammer was da bomb back in da day!!!! Love your reactions to his moves! Lol! Much love from Henderson Ga USA
Rollerblading days
Yeah man, this would come on in the club and people would go all out on the dance floor. Those Hammer pants were damn comfortable.
My days of following along with their dance are over. But this one always gets me hyped.
MC had parachute pants and the TV show In Living Color had women dancing just like in the video and they were called Fly Girls. Jennifer Lopez got her start as a Fly Girl.
"I want to know who that is" Currently, assuming she was 18 at the time? A 52 year old woman. At the likely age of late 20s? She is in her early 60s! :) And we all now collectively FEEL OLD because this song is quickly approaching 40.
The dancing was the key. This was the first full body dance most of us had ever seen, and I imagine it the base from which many iconic styles evolved..
Move Cliff! Can't touch this!😂😂😂
Classic iconic hip hop ❤
👍👍👍Old school gooooodnesssss!!! 🖖❤
I grew up in the 80's and 90's. In the 90's I used to jam/dance to M.C. Hammer, Bobby Brown, Kid N' Play, Bel Biv Devo, Another Bad Creation, Kriss Kross, Boyz II Men, Vanilla Ice, MC Shy D, DJ Matrix, DJ Slip, Rob Base and DJ E-Z Rock, and there were so many others. 🔥🔥🔥 Great reaction, BTW!!! 👏👏👏 7:07
That list is amazing. I wish I could upvote you for every one you mentioned
Nostalgia just hit me....this dude was magical with his steps 😅, dope reaction fam
Dude, this was big when I was a senior in high school! Also Vanilla ice, ice ice baby.
Remember MC Hammer had his own cartoon back in the day
DUDE!!!
We used to be so tired from trying to do all of the moves while dancing along with the video 😂
Im from the Bay and Im telling you Hammer provided the BEST hip hop performances EVER for all ages. If you missed a Hammer show, you missed something very special. And Hammer had hands
My first ever concert was MC Hammer! He and his dancers gave the best concert I’ve ever seen in my life do you hear me?!?! 🔥
34 years later and this song is still badass.
Always on the radio back in the day. ❤
I'm 58 years old now & I definitely remember being part of Hammer Time Movement, & I still own this CD & listen to it regularly!!! ❤💯

Can't sit still listening to this song... it's just not possible... you gotta move. Love this song still today. It's awesome.
From a Funklord dancer of the 70s, believe me when I say Hammer had me on the FLOOR!!! Enjoyed your reaction!
Cliff, he just explained to me why my listening changed over the years! I was always alive to the beats and wanted to move! Now ...i am into the LYRICS, because i can't move to the BEATS. I want to, but my body says "nuhuh, don't you touch that!" So i hunker into the WORDS. Man. Lol. Learn something everyday. Thanks Cliff 😁
Lmfao they WERE called parachute pants, my guy!!! I actually had a pair in 6th grade n would wear them to school n do the hammer dance, aka, the typewriter. It earned me the nickname MC Shorty, all that year!🤣🤣🤣 I also had an entire dance routine to ice ice baby, n will STILL sing that one at karaoke lmfao... still love this old music! It was so fun n clean n wholesome!
This song/album was so huge ACROSS THE BOARD! Every one loved it. It got played at every nightclub. Every party, every wedding (after the string quartet for the prerequisite family dances. Once the DJ took over, WHOOMP! There it is! EVERYONE from your 7 yr old little cousin to 86 yr old Aunt Nettie was out on the floor, bustin’ a move (or 3!)
To see hi. And his dance crew do this live was a marvel to behold. Add into it that he’s a really wonderful guy…U can’t touch this!💖
This was one of my favorite jams growing up. Whoop There It Is-Tag Team is another great 1.
This song, Ice Ice Baby, and the Humpty Dance were some of my faves.
I lived in Oakland back then. I remember being a bit annoyed one Saturday morning because I got caught up in a traffic jam due to a detour around the filming of an MC Hammer video. Once I saw this video and realized this was the video filming I detoured for, I decided that a few minutes of inconvenience was well worth it for an iconic music video.
I knew him before it was Hammer Time, I was in the Navy with him and he would DJ at the USO in San Diego!
MC Hammer has an interesting background. As a teenager, the owner of the Oakland A's saw him dancing in the parking lot after a game. He gave Hammer a job working in the clubhouse on game days, handing out towels and collecting dirty laundry and the like. The owner named him honorary Vice President for Clubhouse Maintenance or something like that. The players thought he looked like the home run hitting legend Hammering Hank Aaron, so they gave him the nickname Hammer.
we called him Rev back in 1980@@plaidmoon5642
This song is still to this day in my music library.
Met Hammer a couple times mtn Biking in the Fremont foothills near San Jose where he lived. Nice guy.
80s brought it, 90s came with 🔥 too
The best part about this song- play it around a group of little kids ANYWHERE- and they go bonkers! My kids elementary school just had spring block party last week and the DJ played this song and all the kids were doing their craziest moves! It’s a classic for a reason!
don't let those pants fool, that man was dangerous
It was just one of the most fun songs to dance to. It was too much fun back in the late 80’s early 90s, and most of my friends were musicians because I worked in the clubs!💖🥰therefore, my kids love all music! They thought it was a normal thing to go to homes and watch jam sessions. 💖I’m glad you were able to enjoy this!
Yep still jamming to these vibes , good times
I still have the VHS video of this ~ ~ ~ !!!! My grandkids laugh their butts off over it ~ and my VCR!!!
So happy watching you enjoy this!!!😂😂😂😉🐐
It is so awesome to see someone react to this hit with such joy. Thanks so very much for your reaction.
Dance to this kept us slim and energized.
my younger girls back then 14 1/2 and 13 used to dance to this and even back then I wish I had that energy.
💜💜💜 I was 15 in 1990. It was a helluva decade!!
Was so much fun in the clubs dancing to this
Yep, we danced! And danced. I was part of this generation that had the chance to enjoy really good music.
This song's been putting smiles on faces for decades. Love this song!
A part of the dance is called The running man. if you wanna see where MC Hammer got that from, you gotta watch Utah Saints - Somethin '08. The video explains it! :-)
Awesome flash back ...great reaction
We were in great shape back in the day!!! Good times! 🎉
I have a little “about me” page I did for school in fourth grade and I said the person I admired most was MC Hammer for his awesome dance moves. 😂
I was a year out of high school when this came out and it was the BIGGEST song over that summer. We'd get dressed to go out, all of us girls, and we'd pile into my friend's jeep with the top off and we'd drive downtown to the meeting spot in a parking lot and there'd be 200 kids just dancing and talking and drinking. The police left us alone as long as we didn't bother anybody. This was AN ANTHEM for us that meant FREEDOM and SUMMER NIGHTS!!!
I'm 74 and still like it as much now as I did then.
Great, got such intense urges to go back to these days, i miss it so much.
I think the 90's was filled with dance music. It seemed like almost every song had a dance that went with it. It was a fun time to grow up.
Oh, boy! When this one came on in the club we all tried doing this dance!! 😂🤦🏼♀️ Great!!
MC Hammer is a Minister for years
5:30 enjoying watching the joy of 1st time experiencing...my mouth is sore trying to not smile.-Ernie Moore Jr.
THIS song crossed all barriers and was on all stations fr 🕺
Fun fact, Jennifer Lopez is one of the dancers in this video.
Her first paid job in the entertainment industry was as a dancer in MC Hammer's dancer's chorus.
Cliff we're gonna need 2 Legit 2 Quit next
Awesome. Could never forget those pants.
