    (21:20) Also that I can't filter Pocket articles by tags. (Pocket allows articles to be tagged, but while I can see those tags in Pocket Web and mobile apps, I can't see them through the Kobo integration)
    (17:51) Also that Kobo e-readers sometimes automatically sync when connected to Wi-Fi. It also tends to refresh Pocket articles only when I go to that section, but probably because I have over 100 unread articles.
    This is also the first Kobo e-reader I've seen with a loaner device where the reviewer had logged out of Kobo's press account and logged in with their own, which would be something I'd do if I wanted to demonstrate print-replica content like graphic novels after shooting footage showing the existing novels.

    Thanks so much Vojislav. As an e-reader I love the basic 2022 Kindle you esteemed so highly, which is excellent for everything *except* reading long lines (that's almost all Poetry) and reading text-based PDFs, the ones I can't convert to e-book formats. So I am looking at 10" e-ink readers. I have eliminated the Kindle Scribe - can't view PDFs - and thought the Elipsa might be the answer with the added bonus of handling Overdrive for borrowing library books. But can you confirm there is no way to re-flow a PDF on the Elipsa. Is the only way, perhaps, to instal KOReader which might compromise the Kobo firmware? Is the hugely more expensive Onyx Boox Note Pro, which does re-flow, the answer?

    I would recommend being careful with the screen. It is not made of glass, at least on the surface, it has a rigid plastic layer on the top of the screen (which makes the screen rough), it's not easy to scratch while writing, but it can be deformed if too much pressure is applied. I foolishly tested it myself. Otherwise, is a good device, expecially for reading ebooks and PDFs, Accademic articles ecc. (writing experience is sufficient but nothing exceptional).

    • @BanjoPixelSnack
      @BanjoPixelSnack 3 роки тому

      This is probably the same for all plastic devices? Don’t they all have a bit of flexibility to them or is it a specific problem with the Kobo in your view?

    Just found out my Microsoft Surface book pen works on the Elipsa! And it works beautifully, too :) Very smooth writing experience, and on the surface pen you can change the nibs to a variety of hardnesses, so user-adjustable. Thought you may like to try it out. Apparently (according to the Kobo reddit), active pens that support "Microsoft Pen Protocol" (not Wacom) should work.

    Nice review. I’m leaning towards this. I have the forma, but the ability to mark up books along with a larger size for my older eyes….makes this a win. Kindle seems stuck on the smaller form factor. I don’t mind a closed ecosystem. I never could get the hang of converting books and apps on android ereaders just aren’t as snappy to me.

      I hate Amazon, but have to admit Kindle does allow zoom in on images in copyright protected pdf, where as Kobo so far does not. I'm hoping this new product will break this pattern. this is important if you view these kinds of documents and have poor eye vision.

  • @rcmrcm3370
    @rcmrcm3370 3 роки тому +1

    Epubs are good on kobo, but kobo sells a lot of books using Adobe copyright protection in pdf format, and this makes zooming in on tables or images impossible. This is major problem for textbooks, popular science publications, etc.
    Another problem you noted, exporting your annotations, there is a work around in the UNIX OS if the annotation is text on Kobo readers where you can export your annotations as a separate file, but unfortunately it is still difficult to re-associate the exported annotations with the book if you move it to another reader, other than to read the location mark and manual place them. This is an old problem which hackers have posted the fix onto youtube videos for anyone who has access to Windows PC or UNIX/MAC can follow.

    Best Screen? At 12:11 a lot of details are missing that show up on the Note Air. And about the gray levels: the Note Air can do A2 and the levels are no longer visible. And what the Kobo can do with pdf, the Likebook P6 can also do for USD 120

    • @MyDeepGuide
      @MyDeepGuide  3 роки тому

      You are mistaking ramped up contrast and sharpness processing for details. As for the A2 comment, I have addressed that in the Reinkstone R1 video, but what about the ghosting at the A2 level? I am talking about continuous real world usability, not just a singular example. And FYI, Note Air is my main daily driver device since November last year, I love it and use it daily for hours, and that's why the difference was very obvious and striking to me, since I look at that screen for 8 months, for at least a couple of hours every day, so I have a very good frame of reference. And yes, Kobo Elipsa picture quality and performance is better.

On the pdf side of things, do you think they didn't give the same features as an epub because there's some pdf's with non-recognizable characters? So instead of making it so that the tablet can make a difference between those two kinds of pdf's, they just made it for the pdf's with non-recognizable characters? I am unclear how PDF gets onto the Kobo Elipsa? Is it only dropbox? Is there physical file transfer option from PC? Is there e-mail option/web surfing, or is the wifi there just for dropbox connection and downloading books?

    • @MyDeepGuide
      @MyDeepGuide  3 роки тому +4

      Dropbox is completely into the device and I have explained how it works. You setup your Dropbox account on Kobo and after that, anything you place in the Apps/Kobo folder on your Dropbox will automatically become available in the device for you to download to it, by simply going to Settings/My Dropbox on the Kobo device.
      So you don't need a web browser to access Dropbox on the device, since the integration is done so well.
      If you don't want to use Dropbox, you can always hook it up to the computer with the USB cable, and then just drag and drop files onto the device like you would onto a USB drive.
      No, there isn't an email client available.

      Unfortunately no. These two days that it took to finalize these videos took a lot out of me. Nerve issues take weeks and months to recover from, unfortunately.
      But I get it was important to get these out before the 24th when the sale of Elipsa starts.
