I was confused how they were bypassing the app store when the whole OS is built around it in order to monopolise the store in that way. If they are just website links it means marketing something that won't have the functionality or personalisation of a program. It will essentially be an inferior product that looks less professional and that will be a turnoff for big businesses. If this is the case their pitch was very misleading.
Well it's a bit more involved than just a website. It's probably PWAs. And I don't think that matters anyways. What matters is get your icon for your store or whatever on people's devices upfront. People who use their phones don't really care about the tech stack an app uses

You're doing the exact same marketing, just having the customer press a link to download the app through your server rather than press a link that would install the app through the app store. Either way the marketing effort and user experience is identical.
