I love the Sengoku Jidai, and Oda Nobunaga is my favorite figure of that time. He wanted to unite Japan and bring it into a new age.

As a fan of Japanese history more particularity the Sengoku period, I definitely have to come to Honnoji temple when I visit Kyoto someday. Nobunaga Oda is one of my favorite Japanese warlords and it was sad that he died before realizing his dream of unifying Japan.

This is so beautifull. The way they implanted vegetation and rocks in the center of the city. It looks like a quiet and spiritual place. You're so right to be pround of that ancestors legacy. Thanks for sharing Shogo. I hope you have more for us to see. This outside video was outstanding (sad we could not see the inside, but i understand why, and respect that).

I cannot begin to tell you how elated I am to learn that Honnoji has so many instructions, references, and information in English. And I did not know that the rebuild Honnoji is actually in a different location! Thats really good to know so I can make sure to see both spots if I ever make it to Japan. Thank you so much Shogo-san!!

Its refreshing to see someone respecting their countries history. There are too many people in this country trying to rewrite our history by only looking through a one way mirror. History should be cherished. The good and the bad. Learn from the past to better yourself in the present and future. Thank you Shogo.

Thank you I didn't realize that Honnoji was actually in Kyoto. For some reason I thought it was outside of the city. When I was in Kyoto I was unable to do all the things I wanted as I was with friends so compromised on what we could see and do. Even though I can't call it a hidden Gem I hope you'll show Nijo jo. To date Nijo jo is my favorite location that I have visited in Japan, it has a special aura that I feel once you enter the gates. I can't describe it, other than to say I feel it in every fiber of my being. When Japan hopefully reopens I want to spend time in Kyoto, so I'm appreciating these hidden gems.

Despite the negative things people have to say about Nobunaga, he had some very positive aspects about him. He went against traditions, took risks, judged people by they abilities rather than their income, status or appearance, nearly united Japan and pushed for change.

I'd love to visit Honnoji. Thank you Shogo. Hawaii's KIKU TV aired the Taiga drama Kirin ga Kuru. Interesting from the point of view of Akechi Mitsuhide as the protagonist who initially was a staunch supporter of Oda who slowly becomes his adversary as he witnesses Oda's ruthlessness and power drunkenness. The Ranjatai (fragrant aloeswood) scenes were especially amusing.

I am watching the NHK Taiga drama, Nobunaga - King of Zipangu, with my girlfriend (I wish that it was easier to purchase Taiga drama DVD or Blu Ray sets.) It is my second watching, and her first. Despite fictionalized aspects, the series covers many historical events of Oda Nobunaga's life. My girlfriend is hooked (probably due to the drama aspects.) I find many things and traits in common between Nobunaga and myself. Mitsuhide Akechi's betrayal was unforgivable. Who knows what the world would be like today if Nobunaga wasn't betrayed. The only concern is that he might have chosen to abolish the Imperial Court, which would have been culturally tragic.

I am from Italy, another land full of monuments, but... they're not as "integrated" into or near modern structure like I can see it happens over there. In fact for us should a thing like that happen here it would get a lot of historians and artists to get an aneurysm and then they would angrily petition the government to demolish the modern eyesore immediately. Shitstorms about it over the various media would be inevitable, countless and mighty powerful, until the monument would be "liberated".
That is not to say it didn't happen, but it was done in the shadows of the law of relics conservation and it didn't last long.
    Interesting culture contrast.

It was all but basically unified by the time of his death! And I think the reason why he's such a polarizing figure is because he was great to his allies (depends on which ally lol) and paved the way to what is now modern day Japan, but he was also absolutely RUTHLESS to his enemies. His army killed whole villages, NINJA villages, monks, women, children etc. Like I admire his tenacity and guts, but gotta admit he was a bastard man lol
