    This is without the best looking BMW bike in a while now. I really like the look of this colour and front. Great first impressions Tjommi, and thank you so much for showing us how this bike should be played with 🙌🏻 The reckless 10 looks really well on this also, How was the tires? I did not hear you mention anything about that? Seams like a good 50/50 Tire. Cheers 🥃

      I actually mentioned that i had nothing to complain about with the tires and that i hated the previous Karoo 3. These performed way better than the Karoo 3 and as well the MitasE07 that came with my 890R. This bike is honestly great, loved it. Cool that BMWis in the game again. The R10 was like "handen i handsken" at his bike, just perfect fit! Look slike it was made for i 😁👍. Go try it Tjommi! Would like to hear Your take on it 👍

      I have a R9T Urban GS which I will fit Karoo 4's on soon. I have them on my T7 and they do good. Yes slick on the rocks but a good general 50/50 tire. @@Braapncamp

      The Karoo 4's were WAY much quieter than my Motoz Deserts, when i threw my leg over my bike and rode home it was like, WTF! What a noise in comparison. But tthe Deserts perform better when pushing it. These Karoo 4's feels like one of the better 70/70 tires out there! Great as OEM tires on the bike, most riders will probably be rather happy with these and use them until it's time to change. The 790/890R's come with tires that you want to change, if not just ADV travelling.

      @@Braapncamp Interesting, I know how bad the Karoo 3 was, so it is really good to hear they stepped up with this one. Hahaha, yeah I think I have some clips from riding behind you to Latvia where you can hear that noise. it is insane 😂🙈

    In Norway NOK 222.200 for the configuration you rode. It has 14.5 liters tank. I Norway a KTM 890 AdvR is NOK 212.000. The KTM has better suspension travel and a 20 liters tank volume and is slightly lighter even with the bigger tank. Same hp but KTM has slightly better max torque at the same rpm. KTMs has 15000 km service intervals, the BMW only 10.000. If you ride a lot you will appreciate longer service intervals. I think that is under-communicated, because it influences on the total cost of ownership. I dont like to deliver bike for service mid-season. The KTM probably has a lower centre of gravity due to the tank assembly. When looking at the pure data the KTM seems to be a better buy but of course....the feel of the bike for the intended use is very important. I rode a KTM 890 AdvR on gravel in Spain. It is an awesome bike. I would keep my KTM, but I know you are only testing hehe...... cheers.

      Thanks Sven for your comparison and insight 🙏 It surprises me that BMW go for 10000Km service, that nay have something to do with how they source the engine? Valid points. For sure i think that the smaller fuel tank is a drawback, on paper the KTM (my own bike) looks better, in the reality and feel when you ride it, this bike does better than one may think. Would not be surprised if the proffessional reviwers will end out with a draw between the bikes, winning different categories. This bike is potent and fun. ...and You know how orange i am 👀😂

    • @thetubelesschannel
      @thetubelesschannel 2 місяці тому

      @@Braapncamp Yes you are orange 😂 but still able to do fair reviews of other bikes...just as it should be. And your experience on the KTM is very valuable when doing it. I have to admit I love KTM solution of the tank....serving to lower CG and also as a "protection" for other parts. I hope they will stick to it and develop it.

    • @Braapncamp
      @Braapncamp  2 місяці тому

      Thanks Sven 🙏 It would surprise me if KTM leave the great tanks solution, they developed the 1290 to get that solution on the latest version as well and thatvreally makes difference on the newer version. Itvis probably more expensive solution in both design and parts but make it stick out and really take the Dakar heritage seriously and not just by the looks. I would think though that the Katie tank solution gives some nightmares for the engineers to design and work around the engine cooling?

    • @gangstargolf
      @gangstargolf 2 місяці тому

      You belive that 15000km service interval it is good for KTM engine? If you check Japanese bikes manual, they always recommend change oil within 5000-6000km. Even you can by yourself check engine oil capacity, if volume less that's is reason change oil often.

    • @Braapncamp
      @Braapncamp  2 місяці тому

      Thats how it is, You change oil between the factory service intervals, especially if the riding style is anything else than touring style. If unsure, test the oil. no one believes anything here. I have always at least halfen the service intervals on my 690, 790, 890 and as well my earlier 1200GSA and othe bikes. My KTM's get new oil at 5000Km's. All service books states that shorter service intervals are required if the bikes are ridden in competition or harder than normal use or similar.

I like a bike you can ride from the showroom and proceed RTW without having to spend a damn fortune trying to bring it up to snuff. This seems very capable. I picked mine up on Wednesday. Significant improvement over the 850. Much better bike in every respect. A couple of things I'd like to see improved though. First, to put a center stand on it, the website says you need to lower the suspension?! Hopefully, that's not the case. Second, there are no grab points on the back. If you drop it, where are you going to lift it from? Or just moving it around the garage. And it appears BMW hasn't come up with something yet. Third, the side stand is a little short. When you tip it on the side stand, it seems to go over much further than the 850. So, I can see it sinking in soft soil pretty easily. The sear is hard and narrow, but the aftermarket will take care of that. Those are the only things I've noticed so far. Otherwise, it is a fantastic bike. It looks great, rides well, and I'm quite excited about it.

    • @Braapncamp
      @Braapncamp  2 місяці тому +1

      Congrats to the beast! Why not get a enduro trail jack instead of a centerstand? A sidestand foot extension might solve the issue with the sidestand. I also thiught about the side stand, but i put an extension in the anyway (experiences problems without them... 🙈😅). You could carry a strap to sling on the rear if needed. Happy Trails and cheers to the new bike!

    Great Vid Mattias...I personally think the bike looks absolutely great! However, I think the competition with the KTM 890 Adv R, Tenere & Ducati Desert X are still way infront with relation to offroad biased & weight etc. Like you say seating position does look stretched to the handlebars especially if a shorter rider and a little exposed on some parts of the bike so protection guards and skid plate is definitely required. thanks

Looking at the specs only, the 890R has it's specs to it's favour to pretty much all bikes in the 900 category. Your choice should more go to what feels best for you. What the dealer feels like for you. If heart beats harder for one of them. The BMW is a fresh bike in the family of ADV bikes. The 890R is in the details engineered purposemade. Awesome bikes both of them and You will have fun with any of them in the same situations.

      If I were into the market for a new bike, it would be a possible choise. The suspension definitely up to task for tough ADV. (I do not ride hard enduro...) Engine is really nice in Dynamic mode and over all more elastic than the 790/890 engine (my feeling). I turned down the effects of electronics as much as possible to feel the bike and that worked nice. It is much better feeling on this bike than the older 850, BMW has definitely worked their way closer to the 890R. Probably one of the closer bikes out there right now. If You ask me what next bike would be, it depends If I stay in the middle weight class or move lighter. With that said, i'm superhappy with my 890R ✊️✊️

    Ok, The BMW 900GS or the KTM 890 S? Do they feel different in weight? Also the center of gravity of the KTM is low (engine is low) -- do you feel that one bike is more stable than another? I am 5'9" so weight and height of a bike is important. If I had a choice between BMW and KTM for reliability -- no question -- BMW wins 9 times out of 10. But weight and balance are equally important.

      Thanks for Your questions, other feel free to join as well to elaborate on this. I had the 790R 4 years before i now have had the 890R for over a year. No problem with any of them. With that said i'm with You on that BMW at least stands behind their products and will help You out if YOu get problems with their product, in a better way than KTM. But Your dealer could always make different as well.
      The 900GS i tested was not fully fueled so it's difficult to compare very exact.
      I did not really feel any top heavyness in the 900GS in comparison, it's a very agile bike to ride. One other important thing to control the bike mor static or in tight situations when you need to turn, like in the woods, the 900 has better steering radius and You have better contact with ground. The 890R is higher in the seat. If you ask me this could be more important for You in static/slow situations than what difference in top heavyness means in speed.
      The T7 feels way more top heavy than both 900 and 890, and are high.
      I think that You need to try them both, but they will be hard to differ, it will come down to preferences, riding comfort, feel for the brand and seat height maybe.
      I really love my 890R, it's a beast! But 900 feels fresh.

      I could imagine! Up here in Scandinavia tou will be on the margin with the range this bike offers. You definitely need to fill up where You can ond not skip any possibility to fuel up in rural areas, Doing that and You will be fine. Many will not be comfortable with this.

    It seems odd to me that manufacturers make these bikes with engines as a stress member and then bolt the bash plate/ sump guard directly to the engine so any impact is transferred directly to the engine. I know most riders who will buy this bike will not use it in extreme but it does make me think that some manufacturers are just making soft adventure and not true adventure bikes the best adventure bike BMW made was to HP2 Enduro how well would that sell now if they made them available again 🤔

    • @Braapncamp
      @Braapncamp  2 місяці тому +1

      The HP2 is classic and still does well in comparison, as the Super Enduro. But talking about engine as as stress bember, the HP is in the family. A friend of mine totalled his HP2 in a scouting trip for Adventure Days. Insuranse company had to pay for manufacturing a new engine. No one on the shelf. The alternative was none if the customer should have an equal HP2, since there was none to source. Expensive. I would like to hav eone though! The bashplate is bolted on the engine on my 890R as well, and the earlier 790. I've been fine so far. 690/701, the same thing, was fine with the 690 as well. The EXC is still with a frame covering the engine 👌
