I don't know Blender so much and try to understand the way this works. I assume the texture coordinates of the SAND material are in WORLD space, so no matter which object has it applied, the sand is covering everything with the same look. Am I right?

What version of blender are you using?
You can see that in the lower right corner of the screen, in Blender's statusbar. (It's 2.93.4.)
Use an empty object.
