Great review. The only thing missing for me in this video is head and shoulder shots - when you want to achieve whatever background bokeh this camera can is capable of. This would of course need Some ND filtration to open up the aperture and , yes, this is a 1" sensor, so there are limitations. But still, It would be nice to see what can be achieved creatively if this camera is all you have in your back pocket. Thanks.
I wonder if some of the 1080p footage was a bit out of focus, because the 4k video looks really good and detailed to me, while the 1080p was not. More than what would be expected from the extra pixels.
No, for HFR the following is true: Sensor Readout Number of effective pixelsQuality Priority: 240fps/250fps (1,824x1,026), 480fps/500fps (1,676x566), 960fps/1000fps (1,136x384)/Shoot Time Priority: 240fps/250fps (1,676x566), 480fps/500fps (1,136x384), 960fps/1000fps (800x270) So for the highest quality 240/250fps mode, you get nearly 1080P readout.
Would you agree that optical IS is quite primitive on this one though or should say it needs more refinement, cuz my sony action cam (fdrx 1000v) with steadyshot works better than OIS on this one
Not necessarily primitive, but it could definitely be more effective. To be fair, I made no effort to smooth anything out with my walking. Just casual strolling, with all the camera shake that comes with it.
You can literally cut your 240fps video in editting software and adjust the speed of the video to 0.125. This will give you 30fps. 0.5 - 120 fps 0.25 - 60fps 0.125 - 30fps then I hope it helps you.
None so far, whether shooting 24fps bursts or 4K clips. With the 5 minute limit, there are better interview cameras out there - but for quick grabs when you need them, the 4K on this camera is pretty nuts.
Quick update - shooting a lot of successive 1080/120p video clips netted the little 'temp warning' indicator appearing onscreen and the screen dimming. Didn't shut off on its own, but I decided to give it a break.
quite decent results for its size, but price wise it's not far away from the blackmagic pocket 4k, which leaps, at least video footage, into a new dimension...
By silly release cycles you mean a company that likes to continue to push the envelope and release improved technology often unlike others that release a camera 4 years later (5D IV) with an already outdated sensor and tech???? Great logic you have...plus you DO know that nobody forces you to buy when a new product is released nor your current product suddenly dies....
Even watching at 1080p screen, the difference between 4k and 1080p video is immense! 4k is so much sharper with more detail.
Stabilization is a major weakness it seems. Would be interesting to see how it compares to panasonic, canon 1" cameras.
i wonder if i can use this with an osmo mobile
What software handles the fast frame stuff?
Great video! It looks like the stabilization in 4k is not that great again.
Thank you! Though pricey, this seems like quite a powerful tool for lightweight hikers.
Excellent. Thank you! I'm happy you did the face tracking autofocus.

Hmm weird... Not sure if i'ts my monitor but that didn't look sharp to me at all
me neither.

The AF is amazing!
the slowmotion duration has improved, what about the image quality in HFR?
I don't think there's been a significant change in overall IQ.
thank u!
Sure thing!
Any idea when these will be available in Seattle??
HFR is shot in 720p?
Unsure as to the exact means in which the camera produces the files, but the 240fps clips are saved to the SD card at 1080p.
HFR is shot in 720p but upscales to 1080p
No, for HFR the following is true:

Thanks Jortio. Looks like it's near-as-makes-no-difference to 1080p. But it is more compressed than the 1080/120p option.
Why warp stabilize it? That doesn't just affect image quality significantly, it affects it drastically.
You are 100% correct, which is why it's just the intro and not the only 4K clip in the reel.

Primitive ? Lol
Hi, Just got the Rx100 V and was wondering how do I conform HFR 240fps in camera to 30fps??
You can literally cut your 240fps video in editting software and adjust the speed of the video to 0.125. This will give you 30fps.
0.5 - 120 fps
0.25 - 60fps
0.125 - 30fps then
I hope it helps you.
Does they still limit the 4K to 5mins?
NETVO TV yes
王曦 oh no!
crazy.. :o
Do you know the bitrate for 4k/30 & 1080p/60?
4K 100Mbit/s 60 Mbit/s (XAVC-S)
1080 - 50Mbit > 60/100Mbit.
Any issues with overheating?

I'd just wait for the rx100 mark VIII, that should be out in a month or so knowing sony's silly release cycles.
Also with no touchscreen...
To be fair, they did have an earthquake at the sensor centre which stopped all camera production. I'll let them slide just this once I think haha
wich will cost at least 2000€ because they keep getting more expensive..
Ben Welles silly is bitching about a company pushing technology instead of waiting 4 years to release crap....loser!

I wish you guys had done a video like this for d500 ,people would not have bought the d500 with extremely poor autofocus!!!
now do all that in low light
Hey Carey. Wear sunglasses and then it will look like you're staring right at the lens. Just thank me later. Love, Becker
Just living the #selfielyfe
thank you
