    In this video I am attempting to recreate a previous abstract but with a different colour scheme. This is a large (for watercolour) abstract watercolour and I use the spray bottle to create different running lines to create the trees and the branches. I am happy with the result and I'll add some gold leaf in the next few days. I don't think it quite meets the brief though so will probably be doing another one.
    I really love the movement of the pigment that would be difficult to paint yourself that occurs with using the spray bottle turned to doing a jet instead of fine spray. It is pretty interesting!
    This was painted on a full sheet of Rives BFK etching paper 56cm x 76cm 280gsm white
    The colours used were:
    Paynes Grey
    Alizarin Crimson
    Cadmium Red
    Cerulean Blue
    Winsor Yellow
    Cobalt Blue
    Then later on some more alizarin crimson flicked on with a tooth brush, paynes grey in the foreground and cadmium yellow in the middle ground.
    The brushes used were:
    6 inch hake brush
    4 inch hake brushes
    Rigger brush
    Pure Kolinsky Round Sable
    Butter Soft Container Lid
    Spray bottle
    Tooth brush
    Tissues
    3M magic tape to attach the paper at the top of the board
    MDF board to attach the paper to
    I will be adding some gold leaf, which I have never done before, any tips welcome! I think that will help add a subject and focal point.
    Thanks for watching!
    Happy painting!
    Cheers
    Scott

Probably best to source this from your local store so you can look after the paper and not have it posted unless you are buying a large amount of paper and it will be looked after. Thankyou 😊 I love how you are honest in your painting, when things are real and don't necessarily go as planned, it's great.... Rather than polished like other artists, if you get what I mean, I find that encouraging.... It's a great painting, thankyou so very much..

      Thanks Paul! The very first time I produced trees by spraying was a total accident! It was good to be able to replicate it again but with different colours! 👍👍

    It’s so helpful to see you struggle with this painting. We all need to understand everyone has moments when they aren’t happy with a piece. I actually like this one if some of the bottom is cropped off! Maybe 1/4 ?

    I really like the first part but when you started pointing out what you didn't like about it I could see that that round circular part in the center. Then you put the yellow and lightened some of the dark spots. And I love the color that happened at the bottom of the painting. I've never tried to go back after my painting has been dried and rewetting it. I think it came out great. I'd love to see how you did the gold leaf. Thanks.

    How can you put a gold leaf over the watercolor ??

  • @yunzers
    @yunzers 2 роки тому +1

    Why do you prefer etching paper rather than watercolor paper? Just curious.

    • @ScottSwinson
      @ScottSwinson  2 роки тому +1

      Hi Bas! I like both! I suppose a few things. Firstly it is whiter than arches and I like that for skies and luminosity. There are whiter papers available that are normal watercolour paper I will try sometime in the future. I also like that watercolours disperse well wet in wet across its surface. Also for multiple layers it seems to accept the watercolour pigment more than arches making it easier to produce a more vibrant watercolour painting when doing many layers. Lastly I am used to it. It is like a friend to me and so I enjoy the easy companionship! 👍😃👍
