Fun fact: when batters would sometimes yell "oh come on!" when striking out, the clip/voice is Jim Belushi's character in the movie, The Man With One Red Shoe.

I remember pitching a no hitter and was excited to see what the newspaper would say after the game, but it didn’t have anything about the no hitter. Also loved to hear that bat hitting the baseball when you turn the game on. Good memories.

It's the perfect baseball game. Games can be played in 10 minutes making it much easier to go through 162 games. Stats, while inflated, are more realistic than other next gen games. The CPU can actually beat you! My first full season back when the game was released was with the Yankees. I actually took the time to edit the names of every player on every team. I finished the regular season with a record of 118-44. Danny Tartabul hit 65 HR's to break the (then) record of 61. I love the look of the players, the speed and feel of the game....everything about this game rocks. I would love to see it re-released with todays rosters and unlockable legends like McGwire, Bonds, Clemons, etc. Ah, to dream. I'm now 44 years old and am breaking this game back out. This time I'll take the Mariners and see if Junior can break Tartabul's record ;)

+52BBN That's awesome. I've played through entire seasons with Houston and Minnesota, I had Bagwell hitting .450 with 50something HRs. I miss baseball, I may start a new season today...

52BBN N64 was a great sequel. He's in there, and custom players was good for its time. I think one good sports game per generation is fine. Not gonna pay full price for roster updates and possibly worse music.

I too played this game as a kid. I spent hours in front of the TV playing as the Montreal Expos and Philadelphia Phillies (both were very good in this game). Everything mentioned rings true: The pace is perfect, the cartoony graphics added character to the players, and that music somehow does NOT get old. More than 20 years later and I would still pick this game over any baseball game I have played since!

I got a SNES off eBay a few years ago, and I am glad I actually went out of my way to get both Ken Griffey Jr. games along with NBA JAM and NHL 94. I also ended up with a Tecmo Super Bowl, so I feel like I have a good rounded collection of sports games for the Super Nintendo. I have the most memories of NBA Jam but man do I also fondly recall Winning Eleven, at least the home run derby part of the game.

but Brett Butler was the best batting average hitter in the game...just bunts..to 3rd base and shortstop.....I've played with all the teams...the best home run team I played with was Texas Rangers you find at least 4 bench players that can hit 35 or more home runs....bc that Texas field is small and has a small wall...so u hit tons of home runs.....

    Love Ken Griffey Jr Baseball!
At the time, I felt the SNES had a game that could stand toe to toe graphically and gameplay-wise with the excellent baseball titles on NEO GEO.
Today, I consider it a timeless classic, and the themed rosters have actually helped the game feel less dated than it would have with actual player names.

Winning Run had some great music tracks. You cut it off before it dropped! Rare was a beast with their design through and through.

Just started a new season the other day, oh the nostalgia. Takes me right back to after school, coke and popcorn or a hot pocket at my friends house. I was trying to find a baseball game on Steam but there is nothing that looks any good. Out of the park baseball just looks like a GM/Manager sim and the only other option is Super Mega Baseball which looks kinda meh but is slated for a new release soon which looks a bit less over the top cartoonie and I'm considering picking up if it comes out soon. Hopefully before baseball season starts.

Dude me and my brother had to trade Wendell Clark to every team and make up fake players just to make him number 17 again on the Quebec Nordiques after his real life trade from the Toronto Maple Leafs and we’re from Vancouver 🤪 but ya we were kids what the hell else we gonna do! Great video and I loved this game. Cheers

My only complaint as a kid was that I felt the game was way too easy. Then again, I did play as the AWESOME WORLD SERIES CHAMPS the Toronto Blue Jays! No wonder! :D

My main memories of this game: (1) Getting a free run every time you had runners at 1st and 3rd against the computer by fake stealing second and then running home from 3rd (then stealing 2nd as they throw home; (2) Beating my cousin 63-2... he had so much patience although he had no idea how to play the game, and (3), my brother and I playing the game years after its heyday and having a 26 inning game!

Wish they would release a game today with the same controls and style. Needs online play. When two people who really know how to play this game compete VIA multiplayer, the games are so close and well balanced. Switch needs a baseball game just like this.

Looks like it borrowed heavily from Baseball Stars 2 on the Neo Geo 2 years earlier. Wonder if they paid for the underlying code and added to it.

The Mariners have H. Lincoln on the team. The Mariners were partially owned by Nintendo, and Howard Lincoln is the former Chairman of Nintendo America, and also former Chief Executive Officer for the Seattle Mariners. I played an emulator with this game on it a couple of weeks ago and noticed that.

Anyone else ever capitalize on the bunt with a fast runner on third leading off. You send him as soon as the pitcher starts to throw and with the amazingingly detailed batting mechanics of the game you can skillfully bunt to the third basemen or short stop and get the run in. It's statistically more reliable to score than swinging when you have a man on third. Especially if he's one of the faster runners. In fact, I'd say utilizing this method can be the difference between winning by one or two runs and losing, A fairly significant percentage of games. However, you cannot just lead off all 3 steps or you will get picked off. The timing has to be perfect. You lead off one step, wait 1.5 seconds, lead off the second step, then MASH as soon as the pitcher twitches. If I tried to estimate how many hours I've spent playing this game no one would even believe me. I would play anyone for money with the Giants. I don't care what the stats say, my opponent could be the white Sox. They all run fast and have a hell of an arm. I can beat the American leauge with the national leauge 29 out of 30 times on the all star game. And if you know the game yeah the American leauge is way better in this game. I wish there was a way to make it harder. I guess the season is SLIGHTLY harder. But the battery in my cartridge is unusually weak. It can't handle a season. I know there is a luck aspect. The grand slams and such make it impossible for you to beat the computer 100 percent of the time. But you'd be surprised how often You can cancel this factor out in your favor with the bunt hack.

I just recently purchased this game and have to say it's a great game. Currently playing my second (medium) season. My first season I played as the Expos finished 52-26 won the east defeated the Cubs in the division series 3 games to 2. Then defeated the Giants 4 games to 2 in the NLCS. Unfortunately I was swept by the White Sox in the world series. I'm currently playing as the Tigers and have a 2 game lead in the east. As far as the game is concerned I only have two minor complaints. When you use auto fielding, with less than 2 outs the fielders ALWAYS try to get the lead runner out, and the game only keeps track of your team's stats. Other then that it's a great game for the SNES. 9.5/10
