    I arrieved in Berlin 7 August 1961, five days before the border was closed. I was with the American Army helicopter unit at Tempelhof. Stationed there for 2 years. Married a German girl from west Berlin. Marriaged lasted 51 years, until God took her home. Good video

I see my third option was correct and when I traveled to Berlin seriously, I would like to visit that museum and take photos etc. Great video and tour for us UA-cam viewers to watch, thanks- thumbs up for the footages.

    It's such a short way to go, any small plane or hot air balloon at night would have made it easily

    • @defdfdsyw
      @defdfdsyw 9 років тому +8

      How should you get a plane?

    • @rippspeck
      @rippspeck 6 років тому +2

      People have sewn their very own balloons once or twice. As mentioned, you couldn't just straight up buy an aerial vehicle for a myriad of reasons. All that's left is building your own but good luck keeping that under the blanket under an authoritarian regime with one of the most intricate surveillance apparati known to man.
      I don't know how accurate this is but I once heard that it's been estimated that about 5% of the populace were "unofficial employees" of the Ministry of State Security ("Stasi") with many more being unrecorded. Everyone was a potential spy out to gain favors in the system by ratting out their neighbors, co-workers, sometimes even family members and friends. That's why most people who thought about fleeing the country were either caught by the system before even attempting their escape or never planned anything in the first place in fear of being discovered and persecuted. That means being left to die in the darkest cell under heavy torture or straight up being sent to Siberia.
      If you owned a plane in the East before the socialists tightened their grip, you were either part of the regime or they confiscated it. Simple as that.

    • @rippspeck
      @rippspeck 6 років тому

      I don't know where you're from but thankfully, this is being taught to us in school. We're aware of the cruelties of authoritarianism, having seen both sides of the same coin: fascism and socialism. Otherwise most of us would probably be just as unaware as you are since apparently, a few decades is enough to forget the cruelties of the past.
