I would like to be the cat surround your house to listen to your music every day freely.
For sure it would be a jazz cat.
Awesome video like always!
Thanks, Felipe...you're a cool cat yourself!
I love listening to you teach at any level, Kent. Had I taken piano and jazz from you as a young man, I bet that I would be three or four times the player that I am now. You are a natural and a diamond in the rough during these challenging times. Always, thank you.
Thanks, Jack, that's a very kind and generous compliment. Swing loose!

this is honestly amazing there is so much language in your playing
Thank you, that's a wonderful compliment. And accurate because there is a lot of language to jazz improvisation and it has a long history...and for me I've lived it for many years.
Happy Bird's B'day! Swing loose, KH. 😎🇧🇪😎
That's so cool...you are a gem! Swing loose, Brenda!
Whenever Mr Kent Hewitt hums while playing I remember about Glenn Gould humming while playing his legendary interpretation of the Goldberg Variations. It seems this is a trait of the great pianists. Maybe I need to start incorporating that into my practice.
Thank you for another great video and greetings from Brazil!
I don't realize I'm doing it, it just happens...I try not to do it. It's because the mike is on the camera which is close to my head.
awesome lessons thanks Kent!
Glad you like them!
my favorite piano player since hs. (john lewis ) played with parker on several recordings . these lessons you give are gold
Thanks so much, Sharon.
I just love your videos.
Thank you for sharing, Kent. 🙏

You are very welcome

Thanks for your help, you are a good teacher, and you swing 👍
Best comment of the month!!

Thanks!
Looking very dapper
I know, right?
Thanks 😊
Uma lenda do jazz!
Thanks Kent. Glad you're doing well. Stay safe.
Thanks, and wishing you the same.
The Bop advanced-beginners appreciate, thanks a lot, love to the cats !
Our pleasure!
Thanks again for your videos, they keep me playing and practicing.
Glad to hear it, thanks for telling me.
Just discovered your videos Kent. I play saxophone but this material from the piano is so good man. Thanks for sharing.
Glad you enjoy it!
I really like this channel! please keep doing what you do :)
Thanks, will do!
Charlie Parker would be so surprised to see his written music notations. He would not be able to play those complicated written notes. He played or recorded those notes without thinking the notations. It is just timing to fit his phrases into the limited space using lots of emphasizing upbeats and if not making his phrase into the space, squeeze in with triplets runs for example.
Great observation....and thanks for sharing!
11:47 Watch that index finger of the left hand... Pure genius!
Thanks for " pointing" that out.
Great video as usual! One important lesson I've learned from all your videos is this: I used to think I wasn't playing enough notes at the same time. ie: I needed to play the biggest chords with the most fingers, most of the time or else it would sound thin. I now realise by watching your playing that this is not the case at all.
Great tip! Thanks, Robin!
Your 2 part jazz book has been very helpful, well worth the money.
I appreciate that very much, Keith, a lot of work went into it.
The learning never ends with K.H.. you certainly look "dapper" today!! Enjoyed all the counting ... music is amazingly interesting when presented in such an exquisite Kent fashion...By the way your videos always spread great positi vity along with generous uplifting remarks...I send you the same! 😉😎
Your comments are always the BEST, Phyllis?...or did I already tell you that?? Stay well.
Thank you!!!
You're welcome!
Kent! Its always a pleasure to watch your new lessons, as a long time fan and jazz enthusiast i would LOVE if you could make a tutorial on Bernard Hermann’s final soundtrack “Taxi Driver” (the opening theme), wishing you good health and sending you a warm hug from Mexico.
Thanks for the comment and the request...haven't heard that one.
I second that one. That’s a beautiful tune.
Kent I don´t met you in person, but you are a great man and great musician. Thanks for your teaching. JA Jacobson from Mexico.
I appreciate your telling me. We were in Puerto Vallarta once. Very nice place.
Bird lives!
Absolutely!
Thanks again Mr Hewitt. You made my day once more. As a senior jazz musician learner, all your tips, lessons, and of course good sense of humor are always wellcome. I've been following you many time ago, and for sure I´ll keep doing this for many years. Is there any chance of having your 'maestro' ideas and suggestions on soloing in modal jazz? I'm anxious for having your so what version. Best regards from Spain
Yes, I have a category in my Playlists on Modal Jazz. Click on the words VIEW FULL PLAYLIST under the category to see 11 videos listed. ua-cam.com/users/KentHewittpiano88playlists
@@KentHewittpiano88 Once again thank you Mr Hewitt. You will probably don't know how your contribution to the MUSIC with your videos is doing. (Besides your 'soloing' as a stand up comediant) You're realy unique, talented and generous. Bye
amazing video!!! what is the title of the tune being played in the beginning of the video before you began speaking???
Thanks. The song is Everything I Love, by Cole Porter. That's my trio album, Time On My Hands
Great stuff! Do you cover rhythm in detail in your book? Keep up the wonderful videos :)
Yes I do! But also I have a playlist for that subject. Go to my Playlists, find Time and Rhythm category and click on VIEW FULL PLAYLIST, for a list of videos. ua-cam.com/users/KentHewittpiano88playlists?view_as=subscriber
@@KentHewittpiano88 Great! Will do, thanks!
Hey Kent, your piano playing is very beautiful and I've been a fan of your content for a good while! I don't really know a good way to ask this question other than to comment it on a video, but: Do you do requests for covers?
If so, would you be interested in doing a really spread-out, heavy, harmonic cover of Moon River?
I assume you probably know that song, and am not sure if you're a fan of it. I just think it's such a beautiful melody. Let me know sir!
Cheers
I did a video on Moon River one year ago. Here's a link. Let me know how you like it. Thanks!ua-cam.com/video/kyd_N0oAnbY/v-deo.html
Wow! Fabulous playing, Sir! I wonder if you have a video on Blues for Alice?
I don't but it's a good tune to consider, thanks!
@@KentHewittpiano88 Your playing is so great. Always look foward to your next upload.

Cool, thanks!
I was on the road and our band got booked at The Hotel Gavez, Gavelston, TX. I needed to get a suit. So I found this great Thrift shop on the island. Going through the racks I found this banana yellow jacket and pants that fit me. Man did I stand out on stage. Lol. When I saw your yellow suit I knew we were bros. Love the swing concepts you bring to the table.🐒🌴🍌
That is awesome! I love the zoot suit look. If you see any of the photos of the greats in the 40's -50's , they all wore cool suits.
💕 ♩♪♪♫♭♬♯ 🎼 ♫♫ ♫♫ 🎹 THANKS, KH! Stay safe! XOXO - M
You too!! Marilyn. Stay well!
Swingin! I lost count :)
Always feel the one!
