  • TURNAROUNDS - 12 Examples in Songs: Music Theory Tutorial. Beginner / Intermediate level theory. A turnaround is a passage at the end of a section which leads to the next section. This next section is most often the repetition of the previous section or the entire piece or song. The turnaround may be single chord or chord progression. Includes examples in 9 popular songs Jazz an American Songbook. This is important theory for arrangers and composers. A SUBSCRIBER'S BOOK ENDORSEMENT - "Mootrevo"; People, I’ve been using Kent’s book every day for over a year, and it’s a work of art. If you like Kent’s playing and the way he explains jazz and music harmony, and the songs he chooses as examples... then RUN, don’t walk to Kent’s website and get this book. He IS far too modest about this amazing jazz workbook he has created. It is simply the best I have ever used, and I’ve tried a lot of them. It has improved my playing and understanding of jazz theory tremendously. I can’t imagine any student of jazz piano and/or jazz harmonic theory not liking this book. It’s simply that good. It’s fun. It’s straight forward. And unlike so many other jazz books, it’s not boring!!"

thanks for the collection, and thanks seting it up so we can see the pressed keys on the midi keyboard-thing! it helps a lot, and I have to admit that I often select which tutorials I watch based on whether that visualization is present or not.
awesome that you still try to improve our experience. all the best :)

Thanks for that! I have as well heard it explained as an alert for a repeating of a repetition, I guess adding some extra interest... That without a song reminded me of some Vincent guaraldi piece christmas time is here...

As they always are, here is another wonderful KH video. Always informative, insightful, and entertaining. Plus, the technical presentation is really dialed in. To that point, I have a question for you.
In the upper left of the screen you have a block with notated staves and the chord form printed out below it. Also, the keyboard graphic is highlighted in blue with the notes played. This all appears to be running and updating in real time as you play. Can you tell me if there is an commercial application that you are using for this, or is this something you ginned up on your own? Very nice! Thank you again for all you provide. Priceless stuff.

It's a software program called Chordie used in conjunction with OBS studio which creates the multi screens. It's not easy to learn...and can be very frustrating, but if you're a techie (and I'm not) you'll be fine, if you study it. I'm persistent, which helps...but I only study manuals as a last resort...but I use Google search to address problems.

Nice screen layout, Kent. We can see you, the music, your hands, and what you're playing. Perhaps you can lose the 2nd keyboard above your hands for more vertical space? Regardless, good lesson.

It's been 2 months that I've made a new video, and it's very complicated to get the layout optimized... so you understand...I'll make it better on the next one, bro.

Layout is great. Hand position and keyboard overview above are both necesarry for many people. Its very usable.
