I know that this is a few years ago Meredith after my mother passed in spring 1996 dad asked us boys to come over and help him we grew up in a two story house. Any way I was a firefighter and tones went out and it’s was my parents house fully envolved burned down to basement. Nobody was home neighbor called it in home was built in 30’s household of 13 kids lost everything. My dad passed in 2006 and I went to drive truck school six weeks and left to the over the road driving. Anyway it brought tears to my eyes when you spoke of your parents and dad asked you and your brother to help clean attic ❤️❤️💋🌹🌹🌹🌹

We would bake our squirrels in sage dressing. When I was young I would hunt our black walnut and our chess nut acreage then come home with at least 10 squirrels. I would clean them then mom took over. I took a small pump and a football needle to get the skin off. Our family loved them baked. Still miss the farm. Hard work but, you sure slept good after sun set and supper. As you know I was from Wisconsin using supper for dinner. You can take the boy off the farm but you can not take the farm out of the boy!! God bless and Merry Christmas to you and family!!

When I was a young boy we had to have commodity food government cheese ,peanut butter, powder milk,
Grits. So when I went hunting and fishing my mother always cooked everything I brought home, and was thankful. I lost my mother 32 years ago ,it would like somebody dug my heart out with a spoon, I love her and I miss her. Love seeing you cooking squirrel for your son.

The squirrel in your cast iron frying pan look soooo good. Glad your son harvested, skinnned and cleaned his own squirrel. Then you made a yummy meal for him. You are a good mother.

@@dalelewis1016 the day that all states require inspections I will start driving pre emission vehicles. Only because 90% of the vehicles out there have the check engine light on. It's usually do to the O2 sensor and system which will throw a code if there is even a small pinhole somewhere in the system causing that dang light to come on. I used to be an auto tech. I hung up my tools when there started being more computers operating the runability of a vehicle, and I'm sorry but computers hate heat, So when you have 4 to 6 computers in the engine compartment your asking for failure.

    I really enjoyed Vlog 34.
My goodness, it’s such a pity to see so much rainfall again, coupled with low temperatures. Brrrr!! Your February Summer may have gone, but the Spring-cleaning bug is biting! We all are so guilty of cluttering and struggling to let go of the past. We share your struggle 100%.
Rounding up calves with a tractor, is like attempting to brush water up an incline, - impossible.
Again, thank you for sharing the ups and downs of your daily life, that we all experience in our daily lives, in one form or another.

The best part of the squirrel is the back straps. We always boiled em, and fried em in Butter but now days, I'm gonna use the Instapot , instead of just boiling.
Years ago, I was squirrel hunting in a neighbors pasture and saw a pile of somebodies garbage. I guess somebody thought that was a good place to get rid of the junk they didn't want anymore. 😞 Of course I had to look thru it, and I found a small pressure cooker. Everything was there including the seal and weight. I took it home, cleaned it up and used it to cook squirrel in. 🙂

Hi Meredith. Mum used to cook wild pidgeon that I shot when I was a kid . Beautiful. Hey let your husband know I'm in the thick finger family ....fishing line or small screws aren't my friend. Ahh the cleanup. We moved a year ago and boy that helps a lot. Roughly 2pm and about 33c. Nearby towns are up to 40c clear skies and no rain in sight. Thanks and Hi to all your family.

Was raised up hunting Squirrel , Rabbit & Groundhog and still would be eating it if i lived in the country and i always added equal parts Flour and Cornmeal for the coating and is fantastic with Gravy and smashed taters and you should be proud of your son for trying any wild game that he hasn't tried before and my hope is that there are many many more family's in our country that are instilling the values that ya'll have with yours and the one lesson my Dad tough us Boys growing up was if you are willing to shoot an Animal you better be willing to skin and eat it and we never had a problem with that because we were fairly poor growing up

Thanks for the video Meredith. My wife wouldn't even let me bring the squirrel in the house, much less cook it for me. The only way she would fix it for me is if it came from an 'organic' store and she couldn't tell what it was. Thanks for being the true 'Farm Wife!'

I'm so sick of rain I've been wanting to plant some food plots for turkeys and deer and cant . You had all that 80 stuff in them boxes first thing that hit me was white rain hair spray girls used back then lol. Was that a fox squirrel or grey . I was raised on fried squirrel and biscuits and gravy nothing no better and that looked so good. You did a good job cooking it to.

I never ate squirrel, but I guess anything can be ate when you cook it in grease, cover it in butter, or put enough chocolate over it!! I hear folks talk about how good rattle snake is!! Gonna have to take their word for It! There was a show on tv awhile back. A fellow named Bear Grylls (or something like that) would travel the world, getting himself dropped in survival situations, and eat things that would make a starving bully goat, puke! I reckon that pride and hunger could make most anything palatable! My moms way was "eat it or don't, I don't make cereal for dinner"! I hated turnip greens, and liver and onions. Imagine my dismay when she made both for dinner! Boy, was I ready for some cereal, the next morning!!! Lol

  • @This1LifeWeLive

What a good boy, bringing home dinner AND wanting to eat it! My sister loves squirrel, but we only have tiny ones out here, no big fat ones, so I haven't even bothered shooting. My Dad has a yard full of fat ones as my step mom feeds them all winter . . . she'd probably die if I shot one though, hahaha!

Bahahaha! Well he just shot two more this morning and there's one in fridge, so I guess I'll try dumplings next. These aren't as big as that one was, though. I think he killed the biggest on the farm the first time ha

Rabbit and squirrel make for some tasty vittles..... Try cooking them with rice like you would chicken or with gravy. My grandmother used to fix it like that and cook a pan of biscuits. Good stuff. Glad to see your son eating what he harvests. Does he or has he deer hunted?

    • @ThisFarmWife_
      @ThisFarmWife_  5 років тому

My son wants dumplings next, but the rice and gravy and biscuits sounds good. He also hunts deer, turkey and rabbit. And dove and duck (some). He hunts anything he can! He got his first deer and turkey at age 7, kinda crazy. he's a really good shot and it's just his thing.

@@ThisFarmWife_ Excellent! First off and most important is teach him safety in the woods and fIrearms safety early on and you won't have to worry about him. I am sure his dad has already done this. All young men should be able to hunt and fish and be able to feed himself and his family. I have been hunting and fishing all my life. Started at about 11 years old and was mostly taught by my mother if you can believe that. She loved to hunt and fish. My dad not so much. Never knew him to fire a gun except when he was in the service. By the way never say "kill" in your videos. For some reason people get freaked out by it and youtube don't like it. Always say "harvest". You stated your age but you certainly don't look it. Your sun looks like a good hunter so you might need that extra freezer after all...........

I've got your beat by 25,000 miles and at least an eighth inch of dust. If you're not rollin' with at least one warning light on, then your ride isn't even broke in yet. A boy like that can go a long way with a momma that will cook his squirrel and give him encouragement.

Thundering over here last night , snow the night before. Crazy weather no doubt. Good Lord y'all need to do serious grading over there. I didn't even see a ditch for the water to run off. I would push the top layer off and start a compost pile in the pasture , mix some leaves in it and throw fertilizer in it. I called the quarry over here on Berry Hill Rd. which is now open to the public. ABC / crusher run is like less than 15 dollars per ton. I'm going over there this spring and get several loads of that and 57s.. All of them animals taste like chicken didn't you know that ? 😂✌️
