THE FACT THAT SHE DID NOT GET A GRAMMY FOR TEENAGE DREAM IS ILLEGAL
The nostalgia that album STILL brings at every listen says it all. That album is crack infused.
she should've won at least one or two but then again, the competition was tight.
Complete criminal activity 🤦🏾♀️
A FEDERAL crime honestly
WELL, THE FAME MONSTER BY LADY GAGA deserved it and she won that Grammy that night!
How much do you want to bet that if she switches her sound or songwriting, people will say “Where is the old Katy?”
i feel like they already did and katy herself tried to brought that brand back lmao
Exactly what they did on WITNESS...
@@rosenthal1466yeah! People said that when she released witness and katy tried to go back to her old image with “smile”. But she needs to bring something new and good, serious this time
Yes
She needs better writers, a mature & refined image, a grown album theme, expensive visuals, and long black hair. I think all of her fans want that and the GP would eat it up. She really deserves a huge comeback. I hope she has the power/authority to push for it. Smile had some bops, but it felt like they were trying to sabotage her with the clown theme. Teary Eyes and Cry About it Later were 🔥…Love the video 🙌🏽
Omg Quincy!! I love your videos but I definitely agree!! "Harley in Hawaii" is a bop on smile, should have been a smash hit!!! smh. I believe she will recover in 2024 ❤❤
If you ask me she s got to be more caculated next era.she needs a better pr team too!
When I'm Gone is all that, and barely charted... i really want her to succeed
Couldn’t agree more ❤️🔥❤️🔥❤️🔥
I disagree, all she needs is a solid album theme, stick to that and make the same carefree music she has always made, NRO was a big hit for her at the time and that song is none of that. If she had stuck to that psychedelic 70s theme for the whole album it would have done much better. If Taylors success made one thing clear, is that people want eras.
She deserves a massive comeback
Amen
It’s coming
@FelixCattonSoupyou and iiiiiiiiiiiieeeeeeeeee not gonna be bitter 😊
Katy raised us with Gaga and Beyoncé I WILL NOT TOLERATE DISRESPECT TO MISS PERRY. Stan wars back then were cool whatever but we can’t deny that those ladies have made an impact that hasn’t been made since them
One yes I remember the Stan wars use to be fun back then. I am Rihanna Navy forever. Now I feel the Stan wars are toxic, with so much body shaming and tearing peoples mental health down
I'd actually say:
*Beyonce
*Katy Perry
*Taylor Swift
*Rihanna
*Lady Gaga
Stan wars were never fun
@@FelixCattonSoup lol this year was Beyoncé and Taylor swift have you been living under a rock?? 🤣🤣👀
@@natalie_rose2861 I agree but taylor felt like she was growing with us the other ones felt like mother haha
The biggest problem with Katy Perry is that she herself doesn't seem to really believe how much of an icon she actually is. She does not take herself seriously in a way where she could lit up a stage without all the gimmicks and still be iconic.
I always remember the SNL performance of Walking On Air, she was so fierce with so little props, just her standing there like "I'm Katy f**ing Perry" and I really miss that energy from her. I hope she gets a better team for the next era cause Capitol ain't it no more.
Ooh yeah let’s talk about her label. There’s no way they’re giving her a big push now that they just signed Halsey. I see them 100% focusing on Halseys project as far as budget and promotion goes. They’re obviously not pushing Katy for a project since she’s taking so long between albums now. Seems like they’ve kind given up on her. I can’t find anything about how many albums/how long she’s under that contract but I can see them dropping or not renewing if she doesn’t have massive success w her next album.
Her live performance of Unconsitionally was pure art. Visuals, theme, notes, stage presence, movement...it was everything
No fr! Let’s talk about it! Because she was running that pop genre for the 2010’s. The Teenage Dream album has 5 #1 singles and she’s the first woman to achieve this milestone. Her discography is immaculate!
And, Katy's the first artist to achieve 5 #1 songs on an album since Michael Jackson's 1987 Bad album. The fact that almost 3 decades went by before anybody tied Michael's record shows how iconic Katy is. She tied with MICHAEL. Queen!
She was two chart positions away from breaking the record too
And yet she didn’t receive no Grammy that’s why I don’t care for the Grammys
Singles artist. Her deep cuts suck lol
It has 6 number one singles part of me counts it’s on the deluxe
Katy Perry’s fall off is definitely one of the strangest things to happen in pop music. She is and will always be a pop icon. My advice for her is to make pop ballads again like ‘Unconditionally’ or ‘The one that got away’. The kind of MVs/songs that r catchy & powerful but with toned down heartfelt visuals. She has 60M monthly Spotify listeners so it means ppl still listen to her and r ready for more.
Maybe it’s not strange or a fall off
But more of a choice she made
She didn’t wanna be teenage dream gal forever
Girl deserves a great comeback!
monthly listener means nothing, it means playlist exposure maintained by the label. she barely gets streams comparing to her counterparts
i don't care how tight the pop scene was in the early 2010's, Katy Perry should have won at least one grammy award for Teenage Dream. That album defined 2010's pop sound
It’s sad that even katy doesn’t take herself seriously anymore she needs to remember who she actually is.
She kinda is her biggest enemy 😢
you're right. she doesn't even promote herself. her instagram feed is an impersonal mess
@@jonhasperhoven4229 doesn’t need to promote when you are all talking about her regardless.
@@Ismaelxavalos we are just a handful of fans, most of her IG posts don’t even hit 500k
Yes she does and she hasn't forgot who she is
i couldn't see my life without the songs Teenage Dream, Firework, Hot N Cold, Roar, Dark Horse... i could literally go on. that alone makes her iconic.
Absolutely 🥰
and the fact she doesn’t have a Grammy with the catalogue and discography she has is INSANE!!!

I didn't realize how badly Smile commercially performed. Chile, its her first album since 2008 that didn't go #1. Debuted at #5, dropped to #54 in Week 2, dropped to #104 in Week 3, dropped to #160 in Week 4 and then left Billboard 200 in Week 5 and didn't even go Gold. Katy has NEVER had such a horribly commercially performing album before until Smile. After her mega success with Teenage Dream and Prism, I NEVER would've imagined a Katy album would do so badly. Witness, even though it was a mess, commercially performed just fine, still did numbers, still swept the radio stations, still got nominations, still got plaques.
Gotta remember the timing was absolutely horrendous for smile. Released during the height of the pandemic, no one wanted to hear a famous celebrity singing about champagne problems or how happy they were and how “it’s not the end of the world”. It just felt so incredibly tone-deaf and with basically zero support from the label, it’s definitely an album that came and went ☹️
Idk if it was the same album but If I remember correctly in her promotion for her album she tweeted abt it and at the end said blm which yk good that she supports but I think the way it was done definitely left a sour taste in ppls mouths
50K debut sales? She’s completely over
I didn’t realize that it was THAT bad! And that despite the haters, Witness still did well!
@@kwadwothestan
I was SHOOK when I looked up the stats of Smile. Not a Katy Perry album doing so badly! 😭
You worded it gorgeously. Katy stuck to a very fun, sexy and camp aesthetic meanwhile her peers understood as a female artists you have to be sexy, deep, edgy and fun all at the same time. The fun overshadowed it all to the point it became funny… I feel like she wasn’t taken seriously.
SPEAK ON IT, Katy Perry is a Pop Icon. Teenage Dream went for 3years bringing hits. Always remember 🎉
Prism has some bops too!
I'm truly hoping for a Katy renaissance. It's what she deserves! It's what we as KatyCats deserve!!
If it weren't for Teenage Dream there would be no Future Nostalgia. It's time to understand Katy's importance in the music industry and respect her. I said what I said.
Huh?
The dutchess
Good girl gone bad

Etc
That album has 0 thing to do with future nostalgia bruh calm down 💀

Katy really tried to save pop, but when she tried it wasn't the time and I feel like people were leaning to a different sound. But no matter what she is/was POP, pure pop.
I’m so thankful Zach did this, I’ve grown tired of people writing her off and acting like she didn’t give one of the best eras of pop ever. I hate how people just disregard her nowadays, I need a mega comeback from her.
She’s the only artist in history to have SIX #1’s from a single album. And that doesn’t even include the biggest song of her career. Grammy or no Grammy, as the diva says, “numbers don’t lie”. Love you always, Katy. Thank you for making this, Zach! 🦋
It’s 5* she tied with MJ.
@@shashavengesayi6055the complete confection has #6 with Part of Me but Billboard changed the rules last minute and they didn’t count it as the same album
What's the biggest song of her career??
@@yazidboufous6541 which makes sense because any artist can just keep releasing the same album in multiple versions so their album can have multiple #1s. BB was actually being fair for once
@@shashavengesayi6055 If that was the case then artists would've been doing that already don't you think ? it is really not that easy to go #1 by just releasing a deluxe album song. Katy was just very powerful back then by debuting at #1 with Part of Me making it her 6th #1 from the same "era". I feel like billboard just wanted to stop her lol.
Katy ushered in the best age of pop alongside Beyonce, Gaga, Riri, and Britney. She will NOT be disrespected in this house
*Her releasing Swish Swish and Taylor releasing LWYMMD was the nail in the coffin. Katy was already in a bad position, and Taylor used it to her advantage and blew her tf out, in ALL categories. Also, rap, being the #1 genre, was the death of her career. All the Pop Queens went into hibernation, Ariana was the only one that was bold enough to debut new music, and she BLEW up. Back to back albums, she was on fire. Billie Eilish, Dua Lipa, Bebe Rexha, and Doja Cat started rising. More pop girls in the genre. Forward to today, Pop is the #1 genre again. Katy just surpassed 60M monthly listeners her highest yet. Her Vegas show was highly praised, she did it very well. Her feud with Taylor has ended. She is back to the black hair. It seems like she is under different management called Litmus and not Capitol, which would explain why her songs started to go viral as that switch happened. KP6 has so much anticipation, like pre-witness had. So she can definitely break records, but what she brings has to feel mature. Not Disney-fied. I will say Smile underperforming is the reason I feel like her name carries little weight. It was a bigger flop than Witness but with no headlines to remember. Even through all of this, she is my favorite artist, so I only want her to succeed* ❤
Lmao look what you made me do had nothing to do with her that was bad reputation and they mended their friendship
Litmus only has control over her first 5 albums, she's still under Capitol.
@@luvmelon she needs to leave Capitol 😭💀
Smile is far from a flop
@elizabethenglish1790 no it definitely did flop, and that's coming from a die-hard Katy Cat
What a time to be alive... the early 2010s pop game was fire
Also Gaga literally switched to jazz and we still eff with her because when she went political she stood on business
and she’s an artist it all feels real. Katy doesn’t have the artist feel but she is a performer and a icon.
Gaga stood on that business for real
Period.
Gaga was always political and not in a generic way either. She helped advance gay rights
@Solo-vh9fm Exactly. She's never been shy about it & it wasn't a ruse to be on trend or gain fans. She meant it & continuously acted/acts upon it.
Its also crazy that there is literally NO presence of her or her fans on stan twitter

There is a lot of fan pages bro but there is no album so nothing to talk about
I’m sorry but The Katy Perry is that GIRL and I feel like people have too much high expectations from her. However, I do agree I would love to see an artistic growth
I’d disagree that Katy never had any edge or took any risk… I Kissed A Girl was definitely controversial at the time despite its massive radio play, plus songs like I’m Still Breathing on her debut album exist! She definitely lost any sort of edge though, especially after Witmess era
She took the teenage dream era visuals and stayed with them. Thats where she went wrong.
Teenage dream was a hit because it was so good and unique, she needed to leave the candy canes etc in that era.
She doesn’t make distinctive era’s. Thats why
*I think the eras are distinctive enough, each album is a different era/look. But, TD caused such a cloud over her I don't think she was able to escape it, the album was a blessing and a curse*
Teenage Dreams gave us 5 number hit singles from a single album, making her the only female artist to achieve that. Only one other individual did that, and his name was Michael Jackson from bad album.
*Bad album

2013-2015 Katy Perry ruled bubble gum pop. She had my whole high school jamming to roar. People underestimate how hard it is to have staying power as a pop girlie. That's why no matter what I respect the icons that rule over decades
Taylor could be one
@@andreshernandez5667taylor is not bubble gum pop
No she's not bubble gum pop and nobody is. But Taylor has staying power. And has since 2008 she was selling and on top even then despite not having every single from an album go #1 on radio then. Shes bigger than just a popstar.
Glad you spoke on this. She basically made up most people’s childhood.
Ask anyone to name multiple Katy Perry songs and they could cause she’s that iconic.
I think this comeback will be solid. She got her long black hair back and she seems to have taken a darker route with her most recent songs. I’m excited to see what she does next.
Manifesting her sooo much success on the new album. I love Katy so much 🫶🏼
You not kidding back in 2010 I remember 730 in the morning getting in my car for school and first sound out the radio was Katy Perry. Going home. Katy Perry. She was everywhere back then.
We're NOT going to play about Ms. Katy 💐🏆I HONESTLY feel she was BLACKBALLED after working with Nicki on "SWISH SWISH" . People felt like she was throwing shade at Taylor. I believe she will make a great comeback in 2024.
I mean… that was released in 2017. Pop music was already declining at that point and the writing for swish swish was preschool level. 💀 she dug her own grave and murder her own career imo.

Omg thank you so much for giving Katy the acknowledgement she deserves. She is sooooo good and people do not give her credit. Also her vocals? UNDERRATED. Katy is one the queens of campiness and i have so much to thank her for. Thinking of You? A tear jerker.
The fact teenage dream didnt get a Grammy honestly makes me devalue the integrity of the entire Grammy awards tbfh
I went to her Witness tour in 2017 and to this day it’s still one of the best concerts I’ve ever been to. She was very interactive with her fans. I love Teenage Dream, Prism, Witness, and Smile to this day. Never Really Over was almost there and Harleys In Hawaii was CRIMINALLY underrated.
I felt Smile should have been her comeback. I love most of the singles “Harleys in Hawaii” “smile””cry about it later “daisies” “not the end of the world”.
She gave me the pop hits that I like, on this album. I was sad that no one cared.
Harley’s in Hawaii is a boppppp
Love this video Zach.
You know who I would LOVE to see Katy Perry collaborate with?
Janelle Monae. I think their voices and sounds would mesh really great together, they both have camp down to an art so I think the visuals and fashions for the collaboration would be top tier.
AND I think it would be a great way to give her some of that maturity that you mentioned in this video.
I personally would love to see it.
i can see this happening
The Smile album is such a hit for me, I know it didn't get as popular as her old songs, but I swear all the songs on that album touched my soul
Harleys in Hawaii is one of her best songs
Y E S.
YES
I like it❤
The fact that Witness was Katy's attempt to appeal to mature audiences signals she may not have the strongest instincts. Katy needs the best of the best in the industry to help mold and craft her next era to make it new and evolved but still tethered to a brand that feels authentic to her. She can definitely have another massive pop moment but she can't miss this time around. A third flop/underwhelming album would be like a third strike for her. I'm rooting for her comeback.
*This will actually be the third strike, I think that's why she's taken almost 4 years... BUT SHE IS STILL WITH CAPITOL like she needs to leave that dmn label already* 😤
I feel like her directing herself towards young audience instead of growing up together with her fans kinda what makes her looks tired. The thing about gaga or nicki or even taylor is they might have different eras but those eras doesn’t serve as their whole persona but instead as a personal artistic narrative they tried to tell when they are releasing an album and where they were mentally or emotionally, thus it felt authentic bc we don’t actually lose the artist in the process
I'm truly moved by the outpouring of constructive feedback for Katy. It's heartwarming to see the genuine longing and affection from fans who clearly miss her presence. The time seems ripe for a triumphant return, and I'm keeping my fingers crossed that the general public will enthusiastically embrace everything she has in store, much like the fervor of the Teenage Dream era.
Further, it's evident that Katy could greatly benefit from assembling a top-notch team for her comeback, particularly when it comes to repositioning her in the public eye. It's understandable that with the passage of time, her popularity may have faded somewhat, but with the right strategy and marketing, she has the potential to reignite her career and remind everyone of her exceptional talent and charisma.
KATY is a icon she is a pop icon her era was big and she always will get her flowers
as a black Katycat thank you for acknowledging her she deserves more but WITNESS IS HER BEST ALBUM I SWEAR
Katy & her management team are all at fault. It all started during PRISM era. They missed multiple big hit opportunities such as Legendary Lovers, Walking on Air and Birthday (barely even promoted, alongside the horrible music video). Then, the 4 year-long gap between PRISM and Witness. For an artist like Katy, who mainly relies on the GP and specializes in singles rather than albums, that's way too long. She went political which obviously was such a stupid move to do before starting your new era. Then she changed her whole appearance, attitude and mannerisms (the short blonde hair, ellen interview, shaved head comment). Witness didn't even perform bad commercially, it was successful with 3 big hits. I think she had the chance to make a comeback in 2019 (her latest relevant year in music) but she and her label messed it up by not even promoting any of the singles that were dropped. Anyway, I feel like KP6 is her LAST chance to make a comeback, it's sad to even think that an artist as big as her barely charts her latest singles within the Top 100 anymore.
I loved the SMILE era honestly, I got from it that. She was showing that she’s been thru some shit, but she’s still fighting and she’s still here. And she’s smiling because she is grateful SHES STILL HERE.
The clown theme thru me a little bit, but I loved the stories being told. Resilient, Teary eyes & cry about it later. ARE BOPS.
WITNESS eta def could’ve been better but there are some bops on that album as well for sure. PENDULUM is a masterpiece.
She filmed her Vegas show and hopefully it gets released 👌🏽👌🏽👌🏽 to me witness & smile are her best bodies of work. To me that’s where she artistically shines more because it feels more her than ever before
When I tell you 365 gets me together REGULARLY like it just came out. And the video! Jesus that ending. HOW DID THE GIRLS FUMBLE THAT?
I think Katy could recover if she did an Eras type tour herself 😩
She doesn’t make distinctive eras. This is why.
9:56 AGREED. NO FLOWERS FOR 365 WHEN IT HITS SO HARD 😭
period
Katy we love you... It's time to make huge comeback.
I think people really underestimate just how dramatic a shift happened in pop music from the mid 2010s onwards. You’ve got the rise of streaming which also opened up doors for artist from other cultures and communities to gain mainstream access look at the rise of K-pop, Latin and Afrobeats in the past five years. Also you have the rise of artist like Lana Del Rey, Billie Eilish, SZA the Weeknd etc who are more low-key and bringing darker. Sounds also hip-hop Rose to become and still is bigger now than pop music. So old-fashioned idea of the popstar which Katie Perry represents faded very quickly from consciousness. Honestly something similar happened to Lady Gaga, but the differences that Lady Gaga was always a theater kid. She was always an actress as well. Everything she did was performance so she had her acting and her love of theatre to continue to thrive. Katy Perry isn’t the only person in the mainstream pop era to really struggle with this transition she’s just one of the biggest faces of it.
Honestly “Never Really Over” was a quick glimpse of that “Teenage Dream” success but that’s pretty much it. I really hope this new album will be great because I was a huge fan of her in middle school and high school and I really want her to have that success again
YOU TALK THE TALK AND I LOVE IT BECAUSE YOU GET INTO THE REAL CONVERSATIONS ABOUT ARTISTS WHO THE INDUSTRY TREAT LIKE A DOG TIED TO CHAINS

Katy’s downfall began when Dr.lukew was put on blast. Ever since then her music has never been the same.
I've been looking forward to this episode since you teased it
another thing taylor did besides the songwriting was switching up her sound. each of her albums has a different tone to it which brings in fans from different demographics

Harleys in Hawaii was her moment to really build on. That song was a sleeper hit and even now when people find it they're so mad they didn't hear it sooner.
She is a legend but after Prism people stopped checking for her

Katy Perry ruled over the music business in the 2010s. She is an icon, a legend and she is the moment ❤
The biggest issue with Katy Perry is that imo she lacks a strong personality that is necessary for icon status.

I’ve said it 1 million times Katy deserved better and I completely agree with your point she needs to evolve. She needs to leave all that strawberry shortcake campy stuff behind. I feel like that was the biggest problem with her brand we grew up but she didn’t grow up with us. She kind of stayed behind in Taylor‘s case she evolved she switched genres and matured as we got older katy got stuck, and when she did the witness era, it was just cringe because she cemented herself as a cutesy campy strawberry girly
I was JUST listening to I Kissed A Girl last night 👏🏾 Still holds up. Katy and Gaga RAN the late 2000s and 2010s so she deserves to be recognized!!!
On point with this analysis
I’m glad you’re bringing this up. I’ve been a Little Monster since 2008 and in 08 I could certainly call myself a Katy Kat. She was everything!
Where things fell off for me was 2011. The euphoria of the summer of 2010 was gone and we saw the other pop girls take off their wigs (metaphorically) and deliver soul bearing work. Gaga’s Born This Way , Beyonces 4 and even Rihanna’s Loud felt notably like the girls trying to show nuance and give the GP range. Katy to me while fun and everything we love in a pop diva, I dont actually know who she is. Idk it may be a bad take but her Teenage Dream/Prism music never felt all the way personal to me. I respect her all the same though!
Katy Perry getting dissed but she wrote a lot of your faves hits…………
I won't forgive the general public for making Harley's In Hawaii flop
Thank you Omg ❤
Let's respect Katy Perry like I don't play about this woman she's the icon of all icons
Honestly, I feel like her divorce from Russell Brand REALLY crushed her self esteem and self image. She's always been cute and quirky but the Witness era really damaged people's opinions of her because it was obvious she was still trying to find out who she was outside of and without Russell. She's SUCH an icon and legend that I hope she'll return back to Prism/Teenage Dream sound with high dollar visuals.
I agree with everything you said. Hope she come with some deep/growth content in every aspect of the new era.
Harley’s In Hawaii is a slept on bop that song is 🔥
I think what the main issue is that Katy blew up massively with her Teenage Dream era and it all happened really quickly. I mean she was building momentum with One Of The Boys but it was not pure pop and animated like TN. She blew up she was played everywhere non stop between 2010-2015. All this happened without building a solid and loyal fan base. Hence why people treat her today like she’s an indie artist or as a joke. Half of the GP grew tired hearing her music while the others like her music but saw her as a radio only artist. She actually wanted Prism to be more different than what it is now. Half the album is very pop radio hits the second half is more authentic to her. As for Smile there’s some hella good songs on that album but just a poorly timed release as well as poorly marketed as well. Cry about it later, Teary Eyed, Tucked, Champagne Problems are soo good.
Katy Perry is the most commercial artist of our time, even to her own detriment. She never was able to break that mold of the very anthemic, feel good pop-y type music. Sometimes it still works, such as with her semi-recent Christmas song 'Cozy Little Christmas' which sells the commercialism of the holidays very well. Outside of that however, the bland commercial stuff doesn't hit in an era where people are looking for relatability and passion. She could just make commercial songs for the rest of her career and be fine, but she will never reach the level of artistry as the peers she came up alongside staying in that lane. I'm not sure she can fully reinvent her image this late in her career, but she is unquestionably talented and could still surprise people with the right vision. Never too late to make something that speaks to people or shows her in a different light.
Ya nd she is also the 4th female artist over 100 billion streams globally
@@rajmehul1781 Exactly this. I went back last night and was looking at her music videos and she has the plays/streams. 'Success' is not something she is lacking in the slightest. We do know she has been frustrated with not being taken seriously as an artist though, so I hope she is able to make something she is passionate about.
Teenage Dream always makes me emotional. An iconic era and song. She changed my life.
Thank u for talking about this! Always been a Katycat since day 1 and always be!!!
I think women in pop can ride their wave only up to a certain point. After a while you either adapt to the times (like Madonna, who keeps coming back and doing collabs with the latest pop star) or you decide to do your own thing (like miss gaga) and risk losing the spotlight on the way. I feel Katy didn't ever make a choice (or was forced not to, who knows) and she became sort of meh.
I don't know what Miss Perry needs to do right now but I just need God, Jesus, Mary, the solar system, the universe, the goddesses of the seas, the nymphs of the forest, the spirits of the air, anything or everything to SHINE their light on Katy Perry's career again!
“Harleys in Hawaii” is STILLL IN ROTATION FOR ME!! A BOPPP!!😍😍
Also, she released a buzz single “When I’m Gone” in 2021 that was not camp that was a total bop but didn’t gain traction. So it’s hard to say “don’t do camp” when camp has been the only thing that has worked for her historically.
