    In a nutshell, you'll love any of the modes that they come in. I personally have a 2003 Td6 (32mpg) bought in the UK, has been shipped three times and has travelled halfway around the world with me; she now resides in Ontario. Love this car; it was never sold in N. America and being RHD is very rare and draws a freaky amount of attention, especially at traffic lights!
    Whilst searching for a 2012 Supercharged, I came across a mint (chains etc. done) 2 owner 2005 4.4 (21-22mpg on a run) paid twice the market value for this exceptional example (the gene pool in Canada for RRs is piss poor). I drove her every day for over 12 months and in -10 -40 heavy show winter, 19” Nokian Hakkapeliitta R5 tires, and she was good as gold. Flushed the gearbox, transfer box and both diffs prior to a Florida round trip last Feb 5532km, not one complaint from the car. Makes me laugh when dudes rave about a 300ml trip; get a grip.
    I discovered my 2-owner, low milage, 2012 Supercharged 5.0 Jag, twin lockers, that looks, drives and smells like brand new, daily driver. I’ve had the front 3M wrapped; the first snow was yesterday. Again, I just bought Nokian Hakkapeliitta R5s, this time 20”. It is going in for an engine and full-drive-train oil change next week.
    As for parts and fluids (I bring in from lrparts.net, Liverpool via DHL), all-in, still, it works out a fraction of the dealer costs, that’s if the useless *****’s can be bothered.
    So, which is best? The SC is a monster @ 510bhp, and they really did get everything right for the end of the Mk. The 05 has a more sunk-in-the-sofa feel, and the climate control pisses all over the 2012, albeit with no cooled seats. The 05 is in between in terms of electronics; the fibre entertainment system has very few upgrade options. The 02-04 (E39) has a lot going for it. I have fitted the Eonon BMW 5 Series E39 Android 10 Car Stereo, plug and play, and it has more or better features than the 2012. Take your time, and don’t cut corners; there is also a whole group dedicated to the E39 diagnostics that plugs right into it without losing the steering wheel etc. functionality. Game changer for the older girls. (see below)
    I guess they all have their own personalities, and I love all three or did! She indoors said one of them had to go, but the good news is the 05 went to a good home, thanks, Robert.

    Hope that helped.

      Hey Mark, thanks for taking the time to write all this super useful information down.
      I absolutely love this age of Range Rover and if we had your fuel prices I wouldn’t hesitate to have a SC petrol..
      Also great info on the E39 trick, I’m going to look into this.. sounds like a plan to fix the infotainment system .. I pray for music in my car again lol

    First RR was a P38, had it for 3 years. Then a 2005 L322, had it for 9 years. Now I have a 95 RRC and a 2016 Supercharged V8 HSE. Gotta say, for every day stuff, the L322 is about perfect.

    i paid 4k for my td6 04 vogue just after covid lockdown and love it and all the problems it comes with. td6 bmw engine is considered bullet proof if maintained correctly. i sorted my entertaiment issues out and still had a poxy drain nover 4 days but i spent 4 hours with a multi meter and it boiled down to the passenger side headlight wiper not working so thats now sorted. did my cills and arches last year myself just need to paint this year. will be keeping a look out for more posts on this car you have and good luck

    Great video. Love the sound of that engine. Very soothing!
    I’m in love with my 4.2 v8 SC which is dreamy! Not at all economical 😂 but well worth it. Solid engine and fantastic spec.
    If you’re going to keep yours for yourself, why not treat her like the queen that she is and give her what she deserves…..the best of everything!
    Otherwise I’d recommend just getting rid asap and getting into the setup you want!

      Thankyou! It definitely is a smooth running engine. Oh nice! I actually have driven the 4.2 SC.. a few years ago but WOW.. Now that has a incredible sound! I remember thinking... how is this thing so fast.. It weighs 2 tonnes!!
      I agree, She is a nice drive.. If i can get those small jobs done.. especially the music system.. i will be very tempted to keep her...

    Additionally the TV system would not be working due to it being analogue (pre digital TV). If you swap your analog tuner rear left in boot bottom of stack with a Hybrid Tuner Module (XRA500070) from salvage yard straight swap (same connectors etc..) it will give you all the digital channels it uses the same aerial array no need to change anything else 👍

    I can mirror everything you have commented on. I have got used to 0 - 60 in 6mins! ….and like you not experienced the 3.6 or 4.4. Don’t paint it full stop. Save up and get it professionally done. Mine is a daily drive and is viewed as a project to the extent I have spent thousands over 6 years and has reached 208k. I have no intention of selling and if it ‘packs up’ then I will reconsider another or upgrade to a 4.4 and spoil myself! Good luck!

      Hahah 0-60 in 6 minutes 😂 is about right! Getting a professional to do the paint does make sense.. i find it hard to imagine i'd do a worst job that it looks now though lol. Nice miles too! I generally like higher mileage cars because most of aux parts have been changed.. Alternators, Starter motors, Pumps of all kinds... if they have been maintained they will do 1000's more miles!
      They are addictive these Range Rovers..

    3.6 tdv8 is the one to have ! Having had many 3.0 td6’s > the 3.6 is the perfect allrounder , ZF box is a dream! Yes the 4.4 tdv8’s have the magnificent 8 speed ZF .. but budget and difference wise, 3.6 would be the one.

    • @RR_36V8
      @RR_36V8 8 місяців тому

      @@ThatsClassiccars i have owned 3 in total (3.6’s) none of which gave any major issues, prevention is better than cure is the best logic to refer with RR’s in general , ensure the EGR’s have been blanked and mapped out (best to opt for a pure map out and No power gain nonsense as it puts additional strain on the drivetrain) - the EGRs is what generally kills the turbos on these, so with them out the picture, it will run on and generally much smoother, service on time , get the gearbox serviced using genuine ZF fluids .. having done with all of my ones resulted in great reliability!
      Hope this helps , drive one, it will be a game changer in contrast to the TD6

      @ThatsClassiccars Love my 3.6 had a couple of Td6s before it and frankly the 3.6 knocks spots off them. Do all my own maintenance and repairs on all of my vehicles, it's not a horrendous thing to work on. Thought about changing it for a 4.4 tdv8 the other day but the conclusion I came to was they didn't feel as responsive to drive as the 3.6 and the keyless gubbins makes them more expensive to insure than the 3.6....

    Great video, Nick! My second all time favorite after the 2019 750i that I have. Must have an L322. You have the prerequisite beard so I know that this channel is real class. I would spend whatever it costs to fix it if you feel that it's feasible. If not, dump it and get another in better condition. Ive watched several L322 videos. Seems that it's a toss up. Can go either way. Each one is a unique experience. If you have the funds, I recommend restoring it. I had a P38 in white with black interior and it was one of my alllllll time favorite cars that I had. Except for the brakes not working. And the dry rot in the air suspension that forced me to convert to coils. Yes. It's called castration. Anyway, first time I see one of your videos. High class. Can't wait for the next update!

      Thankyou, i appreciate that and compliments on my beard too haha!
      The 7 series BMW's are pretty special cars too.
      I feel my RR is a good car deep down, its just got a couple of surface level issues haha.. I would like to make it a good looking car again.. i feel like it deserves it.
      Oh I love the P38 but i have actually never owned one... Its definitely on the list.. I was quite close to buying one the other day and then i'd have 3 generations of the Range Rovers, which would be kinda cool.
      Oh no the Air suspension swap out... Such a common issue though.. It so nice when they stay on the air suspension . More fun with the Range rover to come!

    I have plasti dip painted a whole car ( landrover freelander ) and alloy wheels before & was deeply disappointed with the results long term on both occasions. The self leveling does indeed make for an easy to achieve easy finish but the durability of it is appauling & in the end it was a waste of time.

    Great video. Regarding value, agree with you anything from £1000-4000, my 04 td6 with 150,000 just been sold at £3400, arches previously repaired and no other rot, waxed underneath etc bodywork and interior in very good condition so yours could be around £3000, if it’s solid underneath, rough body but interior is good? And mechanicals are good? And low miles.
    As for engine, I wouldn’t chance a 3.6, need a huge amount in reserve just incase egrs fail or turbos or intake manifold, 4.4 is better but still high purchase cost, iv done like quite a few others and jumped ship on diesel, gone from the sold reliable m57 td6 to the jag 4.2 supercharged, they do have a 4.4n/a but was only about for couple of years and rare so I just went supercharged and it’s thirsty round town but not far behind the td6 on a run, gets about 28mpg on motorway at 60mph, drops to about 26 if your doing 70 and on A roads. Round town it averages around 14mpg. But then petrol is cheaper and parts and servicing is slightly less so off sets the higher fuel consumption.

    • @ThatsClassiccars
      @ThatsClassiccars  8 місяців тому +1

      Thankyou! That seems fair money for that, It must have been a clean one.
      Yeah its solid underneath.. I actually have a walk round of the underneath of the car when we took it to Jasons work shop, It the video with Air suspension replacement. Mechanically this car is very good, very smooth and no knocks... It's just the rough body on it at the moment.
      Thats good to know about the 3.6... I wonder if anyone has had a smooth ride with that engine? Yeah the 4.4's are more expensive of course but it seems like less overall maintenance issues??
      Thats actually super interesting about the economy for a 4.2 SC !! I have driven one before and just WOW! Thats a tempting option also.... the throttle response is just amazing on those SC's

    • @richard3004
      @richard3004 8 місяців тому

      @@ThatsClassiccarsto be honest anyone I know personally or on the Land Rover forums has had some issue with the 3.6, sometimes minor other times very costly, others have ended up needed full new engines.
      Thing with the 4.2sc is it’s base is a old engine that’s had the faults ironed out over the years so super reliable lump, only thing to do I would say is a set of rubber hoses under the supercharger which is on my list of jobs, large strip down but not to complicated.
      Regarding economy there a surprisingly lazy engine, not the usual fizzing it’s head off, at 40mph on a level road it’s turning about 1000 revs, motorway at 55-60 it’s about 16-1700, and at 70 it’s about 2000 so it revs lower than a td6, iv put it down to more power and the extra gear, 6sp vs 5sp autos. However floor it on motorway and it will drop two gears and just goes, doesn’t feel fast though so very easy to get into license loosing speed. With the 4.2 you’ve no Egrs, no turbos (ok supercharger but change it’s oil and it’s big reliable lump), no DPF (non on 3.6 but is on 4.4) no adblu system (don’t think even the 4.4 has that though, many new diesels do however) just a simpler engine, and so quiet when cruising along. I also think you’ll get a nicer supercharged as they tend to be used less for things like farm work or general towing etc, also bit cheaper from my experience as people are scared of the mpg.

    • @ThatsClassiccars
      @ThatsClassiccars  8 місяців тому +1

      @@richard3004 I have heard about the issues with the L322 but i didn't realise the 3.6 had some many problems. I think it was pretty lucky i bought the 3.0 TD6 as it seems like it has a stronger engine with less issues than 3.6.
      As for the Petrol engines, that is very interesting about the low revving.. that is probably the secret that gives them the better economy ... The big petrol engine doesn't need to work so hard unless you are pushing it hard..
      I definitely agree that people are scared of the fuel costs of the big engine cars... the prices do seem lower than the diesels.
      AND amazingly the Petrol Range Rovers are ULEZ safe!! Mental really

    • @richard3004
      @richard3004 8 місяців тому

      @@ThatsClassiccarsabsolutely the 3.0 may not be as refined but definitely a solid engine, never had 1 issue with mine. There’s probably some 3.6s out there without much trouble but seems to be a gamble and luck as even with plenty of servicing the turbos and egrs still seem to let go. Manifold cracks are just down to poor parts, should have a better design and material not cheap plastic, manufacturers arnt bothered, long as it lasts it’s 3 year warranty.
      It is quite funny that a 4.2 that especially in a place like London would probably average 10 mpg is actually Ulez. 😂

    I have the 4.4TDV8 and they’re just a totally different car compared to a TD6 (previously been a long time owner of one of those).
    In my opinion, the TD6 is the best buy for those who want to own a RR (or just a great car in general) on a modest budget.
    The 4.4 TDV8 is for those who want all the bells and whistles of the next generation model, but prefer the shape of the L322… The last genuine, built for purpose, Range Rover.

    • @ThatsClassiccars
      @ThatsClassiccars  8 місяців тому

      Oh i can imagine, They really refined the L322 by that time. The early ones are such good value for a luxury car that it is.. but old luxury comes at a cost... Once i have worked by way through the issues with this one.. the 4.4 is a very tempting option.
