The real question is why does BMW keep making cars with the same problem. I own a 2011 550I which initially cost $70,000 dollars. Really disappointed with the quality of this vehicle. At 80,000 miles i have oil leaks, coolant leaks, failed alternator, interior leaks when it rains, and a melting door handle.
Yeah, I agree with you Michael, This sticky doorhandle issue happened on my 2009 328 along with a host of other problems that shouldn’t be on this car. At nearly $50,000 that these cars sell for brand new I’m convinced all you’re buying is that blue and white roundel status symbol on the hood. Sadly they are not quality built to last any longer than any other car.
Great thinking! This gave me an idea that I tried, and it worked. I used dental floss to gently saw back and forth up through the soft, sticky material (it takes some time & patience; consider industrial-strength floss to prevent breakage). After, I used an isopropyl alcohol mixture (I didn't have goo-gone on hand) to remove any excess sticky residue. No risk of scratching the material with a razor, so no sanding was needed.
Saved my co-workers reputation! He was accused of having some solvent on his hands and starting the process of dissolving the trim! I'll try your repair right away!
I did one for my friend.I put a heat gun on it got it hot that seemed to dry up the stickiness.then painted it looks new and its not sticky anymore.hope this helps someone
Thanks for the advice, did all 3 of my handles in my '08 328i, I used a medium size wood chisel instead of a blade, helped with the angles. Saved some cash! Thanks again!
Thanks for the tip! I watch an excellent video on replacing it but the reassembly etc. has an non-expert like me thinking I'll screw something else up!
Very nice, it works for me as well, but I painted all the handle to black colour instead to get rid of the scratches due to rubber peeling removal. Thanks again.
I did this plus they sell nice leather cover up sleeves on amazon for about $15 which is way cheaper than taking the whole door panel off and replacing the handle
Super helpful! Been looking to replace my handles for some time now, but didn't want to go through the hassle of removing the doors. I'm going to give this a shot and see how it turns out. Much appreciated
I’m having this issue but it’s the entire door handle that’s sticky not the just the side mentioned in the video. Is there any way I can fix this without a full replacement?
Curious as to how long that fix lasted. I repaint my fingernails about every few days, so I imagine it surviving several months on a door handle. Would love to know, thanks!
That outer trim piece snaps off then there should be 2 torx screws holding it in...i just wrap these handles in black Headliner material. I think BMW has more interior work than VW or those melting Dashboards of Lexus.
@@chrisgandhi6463 better it cracking then melting 😅, if anything you can take it all apart and wrap it in cloth..have not tried it yet but it be less expensive than replacing and having that happen again..
Thank you for sharing this idea. I am going to try it tomorrow morning itself. I am not sure if Goof Off is available in my country (Mauritius)... what is the purpose of Goof Off and what can be used instead if i can't get Goof Off.. Thank you!
I think the avg 30-something female BMW owner doesnt have trim tools and the proper wrenches. So it will cost more than the price of the handle. The snap on plastic cover is great, no work and won't decay in the future. $12 per handle.
Philipp Tietjen No I did not tried this. I bought a piece of soft biege leather, at size about an A4 paper sheet, and I cut it carefully and stitch it. It took me about 1,5 hour for the hole project. It seem very nice and worked for me
This is a great alternative. Personally I’d just change it out for new but I have many years of experience so it might be easier and/or less time consuming. Aftermarket is $20 for both inner/outer pieces. The replacement handles also use a different coating that doesn’t melt like the OE ones.
OBVIOUSLY You do not do any type of work to any vehicle probably do not even fill your tires with air so you wouldn't understand. And for the people who don't know the handles are welded tot he door.
@@snkrfeend The handles are plastic welded but they can be removed fairly easily and replaced or reconditioned. Still a PITA, tho. It's really sad that BMW produced such low quality parts.
Such defective door handles should be replaced by BMW for free. This car is being marketed as a luxury car after all.
ALL OF THIS!!!
people who can afford a "luxury" car brand new, can afford the successor 6 years later too. Look at Jaguar. Luxury cars aren't made to last.

Michael Trewick I've been shopping used BMWs and this issue is universal and hideous. Made me question the durability of everything else
Because it is a BMW (Bring Me to Workshop, Break My Wallet, Bring Me Worries). Just kidding
Michael Trewick I have the same problem. 2011 750
I have a BMW 528i and I also had an interior leak in my back door... Also my alternator went out and my vehicle needs suspension work..😭😭😭😭😔😔😔😔

Why do the handles do that? Its like they straight up melt. Not sure why bmw would make such a terrible design
Great idea. I scraped off the rubber coating with a razor knife, and then cleaned off the residue with WD40. Wonderful. Thanks!
Thanks and a beer on me for this great video, going to do this for a sticky passenger door handle on my X5. Cheers!
Right on!
Really helpful brother. I just went to a shop, and they wanted $245 to repair this! 👍👍
With details like this, I dont know why BMW is a ''PREMIUM'' category.
Three series is not premium 😅
@@paulius197907n26i have a 5 series which i paid 63k in 2017 and it has a sticky handle.
It’s a shame Bmw would make junk like that.
Great job mate! This is bmw b...shit interior
bmw has a lot of detail problems... NO MORE BMW, I'M GOING FOR LEXUS.
There is alternative way to fix BMW sticky handles: ua-cam.com/video/99xhdWOcdOs/v-deo.html
WTH! Draconian repair Vomit. BMW owner with no cash to buy $180 Amazon part
People, BMW's are crap. Haven't been worth half their price since the 90's
Poor quality, very disappointed.
Never buy BMW again😢

Great idea. I'm definitely going to try this first. Thanks.
Put a cover on it. They make covers for BMW handles.
Where would one find some? They all seem to be much more expensive than replacement.
Thank you, my '09 335i is like this on the passenger side only. Bought it used and I thought a dog chewed on it or something. Will try this out

There's a snap on part that goes right over the the rubber. Takes 2 minutes, no tools required.. Its really an ingenious product.
i might need to do that. rather than take off the damn door panel hahaha
Where can this snap on be purchased.
Where can we buy the rubber to replace it?

A new handle cost me £11
The end result isnt good

Where can I find this part at?
amazon
my 2014 bmw does the same. and it makes the car smell on the inside like crayons.
Very nice. Thank you for the info! I will definitely be trying this on mine today!
Exactly what I needed! Thanks!
Oh shit man you jacked that up! Take off the top trim first, at least.

I got the fix on my channel. Good luck
Thank you Bro I brought 2010 BMW 525 d in India facing same problem and new part is very expensive so I will try the same
Bom dia dou fe piracicaba gostaria de saber se ele arruma forro de pota fa bmw 328 tei falta as bucas de prender na porta
New handles can now be found at Amazon, ESC and FCP Euro for about $15.
Same problem in a Hyundai Elantra, I'll try the sandpaper & goo-off as it's a much larger and more visible part of the door 😭
Ima try it out cause in my 528i 2013 its already super sticky and falling apart. Is it from the sun hitting it?
Anyone know why this happen to many rubber bmw part ?? Why rubber can melt without any heat , i mean when its cold also the rubber still sticky..

I’ve seen this in so many BMWs now it’s happening to my X3
Wtf
Just replace it. They sell it on Aliexpress…
Acetone will take that goo off no problem after you scrape it
Would you able to replace the inside part of the handle? Wondering if you can buy online.
But who thinks this grip material is needed? I've had it on 3 BMWs and a Lexus
Wow man really nice video and beautiful car great channel you have here I recently just started my own channel about my car so I have high hopes:)
i have sticky door handle on my 2016 320i
U can try to use thin filament like dental floss to peel it of.
Omg sorry I just can’t do something this half fast . Why couldn’t you take it apart then you wouldn’t of scratched up the door like that right
ROI...not worth my time
Thank you so much I though something was heating in door until someone said it’s only the handle though 😒😩😂😂😂🙏
ne dandik arabaymış bu, yahu
Just put some clear gorilla tape around the handle. Done.
Nice thanks for the video?
just get the leather cover and put it on. Easy to do and looks great.
$30? I've just been quoted $350 from BMW New Zealand at that price I think I'll stay with the problem
Yeah that's crazy. You can buy an entire replacement handle from ECS for 19.49 and if you spend 49 or more they ship it free.
I have a simple remedy for this. I used women Natural Nail Polish to coat the handle. You have to apply at least two coats. It dries within seconds.
