Thanks loved it sorry to hear of your misfortune through Paris at least you had the help of one Good Samaritan. I eagerly await your next episode god bless you both. 🤓🤓
Canal du Centre vid - how timely! 😉 Thanks very much. Enjoyed it from the comfort of our sofas as our boat is moored in Digoin waiting to resume our trip in a week or so. Those locks looked like they are filled up to the brim and still not enough water in the canals...
Hi Igor, In Digoin did you check out the Irish Bar next to the car park by the pedestrian walkway over the canal? Florence and Marik were hoping to sell the place and retire to the country - if you get chance we’d be interested to know if it’s under new ownership? The water levels are reducing so I hear, but the Canal du Centre is fairly deep anyway so I hope you’ll get through without a prob! Enjoy your sofa time :) Stay Safe JnS xx
@@sailingoptionsUnfortunately we didn't have a chance to explore Digoin as we left for England the next morning after arriving. We'll definitely check out the bar once we get back and hold you responsible if we don't get any further 😂
@@sailingoptions back to reality - back on the boat in Digoin. Went to the Irish Bar - it's closed and undergoing refurbishment but we were waved in by the new owner, were offered free coffee and a chat - an offer you can't refuse. The previous owners sold the bar and moved away.
@@ivsuk Great news on two counts :) First you're back on the boat and we hope all is good. Second that our friends did what they intended with selling up! We hope they are now enjoying a life of travel in their motorhome. Thanks for taking the time to check it out. Stay safe. JnS
Thank you , very informative, not only for the usual beautiful scenery of France , also for the knowlege of how to cope with mishaps on your travel. from an ancient cyclist and traveller , Hugh. ps that photo of me was taken 20 years ago , give or take a year or so. haha
Hello Hugh, thank you for watching and for your comment. We really enjoyed the slow journey through France and the cycling was a joy most of the time. Our journeys and exploring will continue for as long as our health and finances allow. Best wishes to you. JnS
Considering you are not Proffesional filmmakers, I think you are doing a brilliant job ❤ Sorry to hear about your mishaps and hope there are no lasting effects. I am considering following in you footsteps and you are giving a unique insight. Can’t wait for the next video Take care.
Thank you so much for your kind comment - it is a wonderful journey through the canals to the Med and we really hope you get chance to do it too! Stay safe, JnS xx
Thoroughly enjoying your videos as we sit here at home in Vancouver while we wait for our Shengen visa to reset. We're doing the same as you with documenting our misadventures on UA-cam. Hopefully your future travels won't be quite so "eventful" as your latest video shows! Safe travels and keep up the excellent work 👍
Thank you for your kind comment and BTW we LOVE Vancouver! We were there last year and met up with an old friend on his boat moored at Spruce Harbour, False Creek. Where is your barge now? Stay safe, JnS xx
@Sailing Options she's tucked away in her home port of Brielle in The Netherlands. We have friends from Toronto boat-sitting onboard in our absence while they shop for a canal boat for themselves.
Yep, the weed is the biggest nuisance - for our twin rudders especially. Luckily I was able to more or less reach the rudders with a boat hook and push the messy "bundles of joy" down until they slide out and float up from underneath. Not only do they kill a couple of knots off your speed, your steering is also buggered up. BTW, what was the shallowest your sounder showed? I had 1.0m actual depth right in the fairway of the Canal lateral a la Loire. Surely weed was interfering with the measurements but still...
Weed! Definitely the curse for sailing yachts in the canals! The Loire depth wasn’t too much lower than the maximum draft published, but the Centre was about 20cm lower than expected last year in May. Best check with locals before leaving Digoin. We’ve had repeated mis readings from our depth sounder so we can’t rely on it unfortunately. In truth, we went with the idea that OPTIONS draft with keel up is 80cm, so in theory we could get through any of the canals on the network.
@@sailingoptions In Nemours we met a UK boat who were turned back before Briare canal with a draft 1.6m. Our boat draws about 1.1m with keel up and 1m without my wife's handbags so I know our options - I will have to walk 🤣
Dear both of you! We plan to make the same journey as you two did, but first next year. A few questions: 1) How do you move the mast to the Mediteranian Sea?. 2) How deep do you "stick" into the water? Have a nice trip in the time to come. Valentina and Niels, Denmark
Dear Niels, thanks for watching and how great that you will travel the canals next year. 1) the mast was stored in Dunkerque at a boat yard then moved by mast transport to the south by Boatloads International. Check out the episode when we put the mast back on - the link to the transport company is in the description. 2) The draft of OPTIONS is only 80cm with the keel up - to plan your route you can use fluviacap by fluvicarte: www.fluviacarte.com/en/fluviacap The canals and rivers are beautiful in places. Happy to answer any questions we can. Stay safe JnS

Really enjoying these videos but why no playlist that has them in order? Or am I missing something? Seem to have to browse to find the next one (letting it go to next on this one jumps back to Paris for instance)
I have checked the settings and found that the playlist was listed in popularity order. I've changed it to oldest first - hope that helps? Thanks for watching our videos we really hope you continue to enjoy them. JnS
Hi thanks for watching our video. If it's something that's grabbed your interest, then YES do it! As the other videos on our channel show, the journey through the inland waterways is often slow, but varied. Grab a look at what we did and then you decide if it's right for you.
