- Ep 22: Can we get the throttle fixed? Can we get out of the Canal du Centre and into the river Saône? How long will we wait? Time to visit the Bourgogne vineyards of Santenay, Mersault, Mercurey, Beaune and taste the wine. Sailboat cruising the French Canals from top to bottom is a fantastic experience, yet life goes on with just normal things day to day; until the unexpected happens. Have so been enjoying your videos, im about to take my little boat to France to begin my own journey through...solo...should make the locks fun:). When you rafted up is it just a matter of finding someone who is happy to have to tied alongside?
Just make sure you have long lines. Some of the locks are not fit for sailing yachts - bollards too far apart!
Make sure you are attached securely before you allow the eclusier to open sluices! Learn how to say Amarrage!
Never go in before a commercial vessel.
Rafting ok but usually done with instruction.
Some floating pontoons. Careful of sloping sides!

In the canals is only possible if the canal is wide enough to prevent blocking up the way through AND if the larger boat is happy to let you use them as a pontoon. Best wishes with your journey!!
