Detectorists Theme Song - Extended Edit (inc. New Verse from Season 3 and instrumental)

- So I decided to add the instrumental ending on to my 3 verse edit of this wonderful theme song by Johnny Flynn, from the British comedy TV series "Detectorists"
Will you search through the loamy earth for me
Climb through the briar and bramble?
I'll be your treasure
I felt the touch of the kings and the breath of the wind
I knew the call of all the song birds
They sang all the wrong words
I'm waiting for you
I'm waiting for you
Will you swim through the briny sea for me
Roll along the ocean's floor?
I'll be your treasure
I'm with the ghosts of the men who can never sing again
There's a place follow me
Where a love lost at sea
Is waiting for you
Is waiting for you
Would you drift o'er the rolling fields for me
Hoard me in the highest bough
I'll be your treasure
But in history's rhyme there's a place and a time
and a truth to the gold that the folds cannot hold
I'm waiting for you
I'm waiting for you
lonely
@Smell - loamy.... loam. noun. rich soil consisting of a mixture of sand, clay, and decaying organic material.
It's loamy. As in 'loamy soil'. It means rich and full of organic matter. It's fertile earth
What means " hoard me in the highest bough" bough of a tree? Its a Phrase? i am german.
yondu *!spoiler alert!*
in the series, the magpies have some treasure in their nest high up in a tree.
I presume the 29 thumbs downs were from the dirt sharks and their allies.
From Simon, Garfunkel and the other Antiquisearchers!
Damned Terra Firma!!
It's more likely they just missed the dirt sharks have no allies.
One of those 46 dislikes is from my ex-girlfriend. She is one of the antiquisearchers.
@@Ratchman_5000 If it was up to Paul they would of been called Terror firma :)
A beautiful song.
Detectorists proves that good story telling does not need violence, gratuitous sexual enconters, gunfights or rotting cadavers to be enlightening about the human condition.
Though some thieving magpies can generally liven a story up nicely. :)
Absolutely agree but think they wish to keep us scared as it makes us more right wing in our politics apparently. We become less trusting of others etc and behold we do which creates divisions and they've won.
But rotting cadavers are my favourite 😔
@@jacobhall1488 well said mate
Absolutely love this feel good series.
I had stage 3 cancer when I found this show and when it found me. This song. Will be played as I’m lowered into the ground. It says what I can not. Yes, I’m praying it will be years away but on that day I will listen one last time. Beautiful. 🙏🏻❤️
Hope you doing ok
Feckin birds, tis best they never found what they were lookin for. Be carefull what ya wish for..etc. unfortunately it takes a stern look a ones own mortality to see the wood from the trees. Hope ya doin well
Thinking of you.......❤️
we played this at my childrens dads memorial.he died of cancer last year

Hello, my name is Martin Schmitz from Germany, and I have never seen such a beautiful, fantastic series as "Detectorists" in my life, these films are so humorous and full of love that one would like to watch all episodes together, it is already like an addiction, but a nice pleasant addiction! I've seen a lot of films in my 54 years, but I've never been more delighted by films like the series "Detectorists", the actors and the script are unique, just close to the life of the simple, that's what makes this series so likeable. "Detectorists" deserves a sequel with new episodes, many people would certainly be grateful for it and these many people are waiting with great longing for a continuation of this unique wonderful series that touches the hearts of so many people! Please consider a sequel, you would make an audience of millions very happy. Kind regards, Martin Schmitz
Hello Martin, I agree. Regards from Ross in Australia
Fantastic series. But I don't think there should be any more. I want to remember what it was when I watched it. Can't be improved. Move on.
I'm so glad you enjoy it Martin. I couldn't agree more. It seems to me to be archetypically English in its themes (hobbies etc., which I love) but it's great that it reaches across the sea to you. Perhaps its more universal than I realised.
I've just read your words about the brilliant series and I agree it is wonderful.. And wanted you to know that there's a new episode showing on Boxing Day.
Hello Martin.
Are you aware that there are 3 series and a Christmas special that was aired this past Christmas?
I would agree with your comments whole heartedly.
This type of TV are known to us as "feel good TV"
Did you watch them in English or Deutsch ?
Detectorists is honestly one of the best shows that I came across completely by chance. Such a sweet, quaint, funny and emotional series, and definitely one of those shows I wish I could wipe from my memory only to watch again afresh. This song brings back those moments cuddled up with my fiancee in front of the TV enjoying this burried treasure of a television show.
I basically live this life 😂
Dizzyt5 Dizzyt5 Nicely put.
just wait a while and watch it again, you catch little details that you missed 1st time round.
seen derek? similar vibe I reckon.
I'm watching it for the 10th time still just as good as the first time if not even better
I love this song and show beyond words,it’s about as perfect as a TV show can get.❤
Try Mortimer and Whitehouse go fishing, very similar theme, two good friends and a simple way of life
Yes so do not want this to end. Half way through season 3. What a treaure ❤
.
It makes me sad because it’s like here’s what you could’ve WON.
It makes me sad because it’s like here’s what you could’ve WON.
I've never seen a comments section like this in all the years I've been on UA-cam.
So full of emotion and love for both the show and the song.
I've read every comment and it's genuinely warmed my soul.
Life is hard a lot of the time, and weird and perplexing.
However there are still plenty of like minded folk in this world who want to look after each other and share the love and it really gives me a sense of peace and appreciation.
Genuine treasure ❤
youve said everything i wanted to say.
Credo che siamo in pochi ad apprezzare e amare la serie TV perchè bisogna avere una mente aperta e un cuore gentile. Mio marito x esempio non lo apprezza affatto.
Detectorists was a once in a lifetime programme that signified everything good about people.
Spot in!
I loved it.
My wife and I love the series so much, we went on our own hunt to visit all the filming locations. We had a lovely weekend climbing through the briar and brambles. We ended up sitting in the scout hall having filled ourselves up with coffee at the Lemon Tree, a few yards down the road. What a fulfilling experience this delightful show has been for so many people.
You should have had a glass of Sheila's homemade lemonade for the full experience.
We did the same, I live an hour ish away and never realised how pretty that part of Suffolk actually is!
How was the lemonade?
How lovely!
Pub?
This show is a perfect example of how enthralling the ordinary and the supposedly mundane can be.
I'm continually learning life lessons like this... thanks Detectorists! Like in episode one where Andy goes to Lance's house for a curry and "The Box" by Johnny Flynn starts playing. A small gesture from a friend, yet such a warm moment. :)
Mackenzie Crook's talent is all our treasure.
One of the greatest TV series ever written and a fabulous theme song to go with it.
British writing at it's absolute best 👍
It's "its". But yes, absolute best.
Prue English tale of a Friendship in a world that is mad …
Only just discovered this series,I'm blown away,it's a masterclass of writing, humour, beauty& awesome music...just love it ....can't bear to finish.💕x
@@scrapper666 Damn that apostrophe...I was never taught the correct way to use them, like most of the population.
True that!
(Coming from a frenchman, it should mean a lot 😉)
i adore this show. i really appreciate the gentle friendship between Lance and Andy, and how they show a positive male relationship -- one of honesty and also humor. I love that they tell each other everything, and also call each other out when they are bullshitting. Anyway, this song is haunting and beautiful, and just perfect.
I'm almost through all 3 seasons... for the 5th time.
Me too! I can't stop re-watching this series and I bought a metal detector. Totally underrated show!
20+ times right through for me, I find it a comfort blanket, it's got a last of the summer wine feel but a billion times better :)
I have watched it once, all the way through. I yearn to watch it again, soon. Tonight, while reading the lyrics to the song as I listened, I finally understand them. It is from the point of view of the gold they are searching for. Knowing that, makes it all make sense! I love the story, every episode. Mackenzie Crook, I have the highest regard for you, thank you for giving this to us!
It's wonderful....free & funny...just a great place to visit. Wish they had kept it going...
I can only see 2 seasons on Netflix australia....
“I’m with the ghosts of the men who can never sing again…” This line always gives me goosebumps ❤️
Me too and one day I will be with them
Yep, in the same way that Gordon Lightfoot used haunting lyrics in the wreck of the Edmond Fitzgerald. that gives me goosebumps too.
I'm with the ghosts of the men who can never sail again...
I'm not a car chase man........... or explosions man...... And it's nice that the BBC understand that 2 men sat under a tree talking ......... of Cabbages & Kings and other stuff .suits people like me. It's a bonus with this song........ The banter between Simon & Garfunkel was icing on the cake........ More please.
This show includes the greatest slow speed car/scooter chase in human history.
Plus they blew up Terry in season 1.
I want to smoke what you're smok8ng man!
The most satisfying series finale ever.
Right?? Agree, we need more feel good series like this with its wonderful message that relationships in our lives are what makes life worth living.
This show and song touch me deeply. Not sure what it is, nostalgia, a wish for a simpler life with good people. Thanks for posting this clip.
A wish for a simpler life..
I so agree with you..I feel the same
Same
@@gibson4676 hell yeah
I think it's all that, but also their sense of purpose. Enthusiasts like this are often mocked, but this sort of dedication and passion is so healthy.
The most beautiful song in the world for the most beautiful show in the world.
One of the most remarkable things about this series is that it always brings out the best in people. Or maybe simply that the best people love it.
I keep coming back to listen to this song for some reason.
I stumbled onto this treasure of a show 2 weeks ago...I am savoring the last season....I am an American, but I can truly appreciate the simplistic beauty of this show. I can't imagine anyone else in any of the characters....and the theme song...superb
This came on just after midnight on new years 2022 and I've watched it daily since, perfect comfort tv Mackenzie is such a talent.
My wife walked down the aisle to this song, thank you for the beautiful song, which became a beautiful memory.
This song reminds me of dog walks with my old dog Jed. He died aged 16 a couple of years ago and I won't lie... I just made myself cry listening to this again.
❤️❤️❤️❤️
Going through that feeling myself presently and just stumbled on the show and my poor dog passed and I just feel it’s his anthem to us… he’s waiting for us… thank you for sharing beautiful song… ❤🐾
There's something about this song that vividly takes you back to those you've loved who are no longer here ❤
It's not often a piece of music fits so perfectly with a superb piece of writing, combined with an awesome cast, brilliant crew, and even quite a good director.
Cheers Johnny, a wonderful song in these dark, shitty times.
"Did a trampoline come this way?"...."It went down there"....."Was there a child in it?" so funny, but for me Shelia's lemonade takes it, everytime I watch that clip my mouth salivates.
Welly welly well well well Best program and theme song ever.
Welly welly well well well, what do we have here? Only the best TV show ever! I love Detectorists, and my girlfriend does too!
It’s not fair how talented Johnny Flynn is .
A lovely slow burn comedy reminiscent of sunny summer days nothing stirring except a gentle breeze.
What a true and lovely comment.
I cannot listen to the line ‘ and I knew the call of all the songbirds ; they sang all the wrong words’ without almost blubbering like a baby. This is an amazing series and song , the only criticism I have of both of these is that they finished.
Just finished the final episode on Netflix. I’m overcome with emotion. Such a beautiful series and song. Thanks for posting this full version. Friendship/love is the true treasure. It’s waiting for us - my wish for all of you who enjoy this song - may we all find it, or rather may it reveal itself to us. 🧡
In a world with so much negativity this show and song brings hope and positivity.
I will hear NOTHING negative about this…or anything to do with the series ! My absolute favourite; there’s so much to learn from Mackenzie’s beautiful writing. I can watch it over & over. Fab…esp if you feel a bit down…
The most beautiful theme song to one of the most beautiful programmes ever made. And still no 4K Blu Ray. “Not enough demand”
Oh there will be, eventually this will be seen as the best sitcoms of the decades
This is going to be mine and my fiancees wedding song.
I walked down the aisle to this song - last weekend! It was so magical.
I'm getting married in 2 months and you just gave me the best idea
We walked down the aisle to this too!! Love it xx

@@roblewis95 Not very nice to say mate. What a load of bollocks you speak. If you don't like the music, go on then elsewhere. Cheers mate!
There's something about British tv shows...their comedy's are legendary but even their small scale shows are just simple yet so meaningful...
Oh and I should add, well done Johnny Flynn for writing and singing a perfect song for the series.
One of the greatest BBC shows ever. And the song is so beautiful. Thank you Johnny Flynn and thanks Mr. Kermit for the extended version.
Found this show completely by accident and immediatly fell in love with it. So simple and yet so elegant. The characters are people we all know or want to know. Probably one of the best shows ever.
Detectorists is a really brilliant show. 👏🏻
I wonder if Johnny knows the brilliance of his creation ...or how many lives it has touched? . Creation comes 'through' us . Not 'from' us . Once it leaves your heart and hand , it's journey now belongs to the whims of providence , and it's message is to it's keeper . True artists understand this. The enormous honor in the duty of service to the spirit , and the reflection of minds. Johnny ...you gave a wonderful gift to us . Thank you 🙏
"I'll be your treasure" .
I love this show so much, I miss it dearly.
This lovely song makes me so emotional. Going to have it played at my funeral. 🥳
The best theme tune ever
One of those British gems that come along one in a blue moon...theme song is beaut
I love that so many people seem to be discovering this wonderful show lately. It really was a masterpiece.
Easily one of the best comedy shows in many years and best theme tune ,,heart warming
Completely agree ❤️
Thank you, Mackenzie Crook for this wonderful show and thank you, Johnny Flynn for this beautiful song! In this crazy world, that we live in I find great comfort, humor and contentment in your talented creations! Love both the show and song!
Well, Mackenzie, I love all of Ricky's work, but you, sir, created something here that is little short of a masterpiece.
Found this series a month ago..my husband and I were hooked from the start. Shared it with my brother..he's hooked now as well👍. As for the theme song...we lost our mom to cancer Jan. 2 2021, and this song gets me teary eyed every time. Amazing series, amazing song. Really hope for more in this series❤
It really is a stupendous series, who'd have thought that a series about Detectorist could touch ones very soul. Absolutely superb,
Lovely, brilliant, funny, restorative. People are tragic, funny, idiosyncratic. But most of all, let's just be nice and friendly. This is what this program has taught me.
Super série, j'ai adoré ! Chronique sociale de l'Angleterre actuelle...Et le thème musical est extra.
Fallen in love with this programme..such a gentle watch. Buetiful scenery and perfectly miss (matched) characters...this theme tune immediately captivated me..thumbs up to makenzie for this writting and directing .
The detectorists is a fantasy we would all want to live, this song just helps to reinforce that wonderful fantasy loved the show from the start ❤
Absolutely in love with this tune, the show, the people.... and of course Sheila.... I would've loved to have her as a mom...

King Alfreds jewel which Lance discovered was actually found near my parents village called north Newton in Somerset. It’s is in the ashmolean museum Oxford. This is a beautiful song and program
Quite probably the best thing on tv.... ever!
My discovery of a medieval hunting arrowhead last week in our allotment reminded me of this.
Up to then all we have found is nails, screws, window catches and the occasional BOAT.
Cool. This show made me become a metal detectorist. All I've found is mostly some nails and a piece of twisted iron. Just bits and bobs. Hot rocks and grots.
Bit of a tractor? Can't remember what Lance called it.
@@Pur9leRain Exactly that. I've also found what I suppose should be a BOAL (Bit of a Lawnmower). A carburettor body, in fact, from a Tecumseh motor of the 50s.
Been living in New Zealand for 14 years and only just stumbled across this series. The song has gripped me to my soul and with the subtle humour and simple ways that I miss so much coming through to ease my aching bones I am now making plans to return to England.
to be detectorists ?
Good luck too you brother, I hope you find happiness x
We all come home mate. 10 years in France when I watched it, home 3 months later.
I know exactly what you mean. I’ve been in NZ 11 years now. There’s so much to miss about the UK. It’s programmes like this that remind me just what I left behind and never appreciated when I was in my home country....
My dad loves this and he was saying how amazing it was
There’s something so true to life and fundamentally English about detectorists. Watching it for the first time I felt as though I’d met every character before.
Broke my heart a bit when I found there was not going to be a Season 4. =(
What a fantastic series.
Me too but, I guess some things have to end on a high..

My favourite scene of the whole series....brings a tear to my eye every time........and makes me pump my fist in the air at the same time......this show is so pure and honest. Probably the best thing ever
This is one of the most beautiful songs. I don’t know why it touches my soul but it does. ❤️
A fantastic theme tune for a hidden gem of a show.
There is just something about this gentle comedy that absolutely does it for me
I was skeptical when a good friend recommended Detectorists, but... It charmed me like I never could have expected. This song is so perfect for the series--I cannot get enough!
After a long day filled with numerous unwanted ear worms, I play this song and watch an episode and I fall straight to sleep--at peace, and with a smile on my face. Thank you for posting!
Honestly, this is my favoritest show of all time. I've watched and re-watched it so many times.
I binge-watched it about a dozen times and loved nearly every scene. I give it 10 out of 10. It carried me away from all my daily concerns, so entertaining and relaxing an escape.
Best homespun series I've ever seen. Best lines, Have you sen a trampoline go past. Yes. Was there a child in it. No, is that serious. Potentially!
Total addiction to the series and the song... peace, comfort and laughter... I love this series - pure genius!!!
Refreshing English eccentricity that is harmless fun meant to entertain just like Dad's Army, wonderful.
It's a show that gives you pause and think this show wouldn't last 2 weeks here in the USA and that's a shame.there is such kindness in this show and the different characters are not gold they are diamonds.
Like a fool I thought I was only one of a handful who rated this show and this song so highly. It was perfect, every second of every episode was perfect.
It was such a simple series. Non of this mellow dramatics. So down to earth and real. I wished they would make more 👍👍
Only two seasons here in Australia.. best show I’ve seen in ages!! Made me smile and touched my heart ☺️
AND my new favourite song ☺️ I’m waiting for youuu... season three.... you will be my treasure ... ☺️😉
Third series is on Apple TV.

As a Yank and Irishman now living in Scotland there is a magic to this program and the song attached I'm not sure if it speaks to me as simpler days or simpler life. Or an English humour that is seldom appreciated by Americans. There is a subtlety in the humour and the language that is seldom found today, well done to the Producers actors and musicians who put this gem together, being a musician this song is going straight into my repertoire
My wife and I stumbled upon this show. We absolutely love the show. We are Americans. But I guess we are the exception to the rule.

Bill Wyman left the Stones to become a detectorist (among other pastimes). Nobody could understand why. Except the fans of this show.
My husband has been gone for nearly 3 years, when we were watching this series. He loved MDing...and bought one special for me. He never got well enough for us to go out and treasure hunt. Alas he only got to series 2. I finished it for the both of us. And I'm re-watching it now... thinking of him and feel this song is his anthem. He's waiting for me, I just know it.
I loved this show - in looking for the gold under our feet, we are immersed in the true gold of our relationships. I loved the theme song just as much.
I so love this song and I so love this show! How is it that a show described as a comedy brings me both to raucous laughter and to deep heartfelt tears? Detetcorists is simply my most favourite show ever! I have watched it through three times now, and each time, I am astounded by the the writing, the story, - the deep metaphors about life, loving and friendships - the brilliant acting, etc., etc. Thank you Mackenzie, Johnny, and all. My life is the richer for this show and this song 🙏🏼💖
Totally agree! Embarrassed about how many times I've watched it and listened to the songs! Johnny Flynns music goes perfectly with this show, the writing is brilliant and all the characters unique!
i finished watching all the seasons and have been listening to this song in loop whole day with a gentle smile and twinkle. What a delightful series.
This song is so incredibly beautiful. Not many theme songs pull this hard.
Someone played me their cover of this song before I'd ever seen Detectorists, and I knew instantly it was a Johnny Flynn song 😊 Unmistakable.
This is one of the most beautiful songs I have ever heard. Thank you Johnny Flynn for sharing it with us. You are a wonderful human being. I love your music and your acting.
